Last weekend it was the perfect day for football. Then I walked into Marvel and it felt cold and soulless.
As I said in the pre game to Dogs V GWS, last Saturday potentially could have been the nicest Saturday in Melbourne of the footy season and yet we have to sit in a dark cinema to watch the game.

Is it really that much of an issue if it's a little to sunny up one end?

The roof should be open for every day game provided it doesn't rain.

No shit. Why did they build a stadium with a roof ?
Why build a stadium with a retractable roof? Oh, so you can open or close it

What's wild to me is why build it on the axis they did. Maybe they lacked the technology when they built it that we have now to forecast such things like the shadows and glare caused by stands facing a certain way. But it still boggles the mind and I hate it being shut on a sunny afternoon or clear evening when it's not cold outside.

The AFL does have money to burn, but they're still going to put it towards objectively improving something.

A fixed ETFE roof makes sense if you're looking to save costs. However there are some drawbacks for things like concert acoustics, and the fact that it can't 100% replicate the indoor experience (openings required for airflow to grow the grass). Therefore it makes no sense as a replacement for a perfectly functioning retractable roof.

I’m sure it’s not simple but keep the retractable and just replace the panels with translucent ones. I’m sure there’s enough light even with the old beams etc. I think Madrids new roof is retractable and translucent, same as Wimbledon. Tho not done retroactively which is where is probably gets tricky.

I'm no engineer but the roof panels at least look pretty straight forward if you wanted to update them, of course theres issues of weight etc..

Time and money would be huge factors. Wouldn't be a quick job.

So whats the roof rules if the weather is a clear for a game during the night but there is a vfl game during the arfternoon? because surely we are a chance of an open roof tommorow

We have never been so back

Mitch Cleary knows bugger all about Marvel Stadium.
It's open when there are no games on.
The general rule is as what Underarm explained but there is an exception which is when the coaches come together and want it open on game day.

I guess they dont care about the sun in the eyes of the VFL players.
