the selection pressure aspect is certainly interesting.

Bryan an obvious in for Blackison.
I don't know if thats obvious.

Blakiston might be needed in defence.

Not sure why with Langford back there somewhat

Add Langford and Prior plus Faz having solid length (if somewhat lanky at this stage of his career) and that should be enough to get bye

Just depends on if Nick Bryan needs another game before he’s ready to come back in.

How the **** is our worst coach in history now our next premiership coach. One win, forced selections and field changes now make him a super coach, spare me the bullshit replies.

Lmao "worst coach".

Also it's been noted that the interview was scheduled before the win.

Go home Sober... you're drunk.

Given how footy is being played now Knights was ahead of his time. His game plan was virtually an early version of what the Hawks are doing now.
Knights issue was he was under funded and left with a bunch of rookie assistants with no quality senior assistant. He got the job based on a whole of club plan from more resources for recruiting and the VFL program along with a list overhaul. In the end he screwed it up because he tried to micromanage everything and at the time his teach offence first and defence later plan was not the thing to do.
Hird came in and they threw bucket loads of cash at the footy department. Knights got the budget version.
At least Knights placed the groundwork in place to get us out of the Bendigo alignment and also managed to get us a head of recruiting and at least have a recruiting program that was not simply the list manager.
He had to go but we did not exactly have a set up to help him succeed. We would have screwed Hardwicke as well.

Giving him credit for being 15 years ahead of his time is pretty funny
I guess you cannot go back and google anything from them, but his fast game was actually similar to how sides set up their current plan. Lot of running in front of the footy. Forwards getting up the ground and working back, which is what Lloyd complained about. Did not say it was 100% of how they do it now, but his plan was teaching attack first and defence later.
In the end it was his own failure as far as trying to manage everything and not just being the coach, but what he tried to do was ahead of its time. The biggest criticism was you have to teach defence first. We 100% tried playing sling shot footy.

Matthew knights delivered some of the best wins in 2009.
Blues, Anzac day, Saints and hawks last round, to knock them from finals.

There's a reason why Knights was never considered again by another club. He was a shambles. Simple as that. You were also a Rutten defender, there's a reason he was overlooked for the Richmond job despite being back in the inner sanctum of their club. And I disagree on your Hardwick comment, would've changed the club throughout and lead to no saga. It all traces back to Knights ****ing up.

That is fine although I did say that Knights had to go because he did not have the ability to just coach the side.
As far as Hardwicke goes, if they gave him the same level of support that Knights got, he would have gone under as well.
We did not spend any money in the footy department until they sacked Knights and got Hird.
All I ever said about Rutten is who knows if he was any good. He was the wrong coach at the wrong time for us but he was not as bad as he was made out to be.

History is full of examples showing just how difficult it is to follow a long-tenured, successful coach. The managers who came immediately after the legends at Man Utd, as well as the coaches following dynasties at the Lakers, Chicago Bulls and New England Patriots, all found it incredibly tough and ultimately failed. There’s little doubt Hardwick would would’ve struggled too, and the state of the club by the time Kevin Sheedy departed was already well below standard.

That said, there was always something about Matthew Knights that suggested he wasn’t equipped to handle the pressure of the role. For me, the defining image of the Knights era was his inability to build strong relationships with key senior players to ease the transition toward youth, coupled with a complete breakdown in defensive structure by the end of his tenure. The Slattery vs LeCras massacre will be forever burnt in my mind as one of the biggest deer in the headlights coaching moments of the last 25 years.

He’s obviously got a good football brain considering he’s been involved at assistant coaching level ever since, but I mark him harsher than a Rutten. I never felt any semblance of hope under Knights but their was a period of time in 2021, in particular late on in the year coming into Finals, I thought the pieces were in place for him to be something and move us forward. Ultimately, he wilted under the pressure of the mess that we are as well.

Hird was our worst coach

You are right. He struggled with selling the message and the relationship with senior players. Let’s face it he had his captain off side before they played a game.

They clearly put the brakes on the offence. It was not simply play on at break neck speed and run into trouble with crazy handball. They went back to more of what they did last year.

Also playing McGrath as a clearance stopper on Pickett.

Few positional changes.
Was more so in reference to the quoted comment 'backed in his guys'

We did the kick mark thing last wk v dogs

Mcgrath on pickett was 1 positional move, and was horses for courses for me, i called it as a move well before the game. However i think it went sonwell that maybe they consider it again

Personally dont think we need him midfield. Id rather Durham gets more time and we start giving some to Sharp/Robey ect

We dont need 4 bean poles down back

mate we had a coach who got 34 players banned for doping once

mainly because Knights got sacked in an era where sacked AFL coaches almost never got another gig. This has started to change, thankfully, and I suppose it could be argued that Brad Scott getting another crack was a key part of that. You look at how many years Michael Voss had to do as an assistant at a successful club just to get another crack.

It doesn't really mean anything that Knights never got further consideration, the 2010s was an era where coaches were basically done as head coaches when the sack came and most of the rest of the sacked AFL coaches of the 2010s never got further consideration
