If our midfield actually remembers to win the ball, then we stop Watson having as big an impact. He is going to have touches regardless, but up the ground pressure is the best way to defend him. Stop the ball coming in clean or fast. I think we can aerially match Hawthorns forward line, just need the midfield to have some sort of pressure game. Which has been woefully absent this year
Any ideas what's caused the midfield issues? Our midfield was our biggest strength last year and its been quite pathetic this year. Considering who are in that midfield it should be elite

Witts being used as a jumping bag at CBA's doesn't help. And he provides very little after the hit out too.

Essendon were sharking Andrew's taps on the weekend too. That can be worked on if he keeps rucking though.

Definitely think its about time Moyle gets a shot and rotate with Mac

They haven't adjusted to other rucks meeting Witts at the ball when he goes for a tap, so instead of now the ball being put into predictable areas, its all over the place. Noah hasn't been playing as a back of stoppage sweeper as much too which has lowered our ability to generate a clearance win. Also doesn't help that with much lower secondary stoppages due to the rule changes, we dont have the option to keep the ball in and let Rowell go to work. Just been slow to adjust to the rules which don't fit our midfield make up as of now. The ball needs to move to the outside faster.

The clips shown this last week were Rowell or Miller facing backwards behind our ruckman losing the ball. We have 2 mids starting on either side and one behind their ruckman. As soon as we lose the ball. 2/3 of our mids are out of position defensively (no sweeper) and the other has lost the ball, it’s been a disaster

When it works it’s setting up goals. For me it’s just far too attacking

GOLD COAST SUNS

Strength: Forward-half game

Playing the game in the forward half — I challenge you to find a footy philosophy more akin to Damien Hardwick-led teams. His Suns currently rank first in the competition for time in forward half, forward-half intercepts and points from forward-half intercepts.

Weakness: Midfield conversion
It’s been talked about to some degree now — most notably by Hardwick himself following Gold Coast’s loss to Melbourne — but this midfield group has struggled thus far in the campaign. The Suns rank fourth for hitout win rate — so they’re getting taps — but they sit 15th (!) for first-possession rate. It’s quite an astounding disparity. Concerningly, the Suns also sit 16th for clearance differential.

Adams out, Mac back, JUH into forward line, Creek stays on the wing. Same number of talls, just JUH for Adams.

If Mac is going to play fwd/ruck, needs to train there for a while.

Would get crushed by 2 genuine rucks for Hawthorn.
Yeah, I'm on board with dropping Witts but not this week.

Meek will bully MAC, need Witts to crash and bash with him.

Dimma’s reference to “we know you’re going to be here long term” in the video should quiet the Marra to Collingwood/Vic rumours.

You’d think he’ll choose a private life over money at his next negotiations

people legit forgot we even have him, only gets mentioned for puff pieces now

Always find it interesting who’s training with which groups. But we mix it up within the same session so frequently it actually makes team selection time exciting

Some clubs (Adelaide) you’d know by Tuesday who’s afl and who’s sanfl
