If Keane was to leave, I would want All Australian level compensation. We have seen this year how important he is.
What KPF are you talking about that has beaten us this year. It was the smalls at Brisbane. No Key forward has gotten a hold of us. Butts. Muz and Worrell have been good.

I never said they did.
We are however, massively missing Keane's creative kicking out of defence. Especially from a point. We are stuck with players who aren't capable of making difficult kicks and so we end up going long to a contest. Every. Single. Time.

Wasn’t it last week or the week before that Gettable was saying the exact opposite that his number 1 choice is Adelaide?

I think most of those journalists are just guessing to get people listening.
I thought it was if he decides to leave, we were "front runner".

Butts has interest from Vic clubs.
Keane flirted with move to Vic last year, may do so again
Bailey apparently has told those around him he’s keen to stay at Brisbane but money difference is significant. Cats may make a play for him.
Crows have interest in Neale but there is talk of a multi-year extension at the Lions.

Four years ago our midfield was Sloane, Laird and Crouch, so we’ve clearly come a long way from that — but we’re nowhere near the finished product yet.

Draper is obviously the big midfield investment, and Curtin is the other one with genuine upside. They’re still only two and three years in, so I don’t think you can call that a drafting or development failure yet. But one of them absolutely has to become a genuine midfielder, otherwise the rebuild hasn’t worked.

Ideally, the next version of the midfield is Curtin, Soligo and Draper, with Rachele and Rankine rotating through rather than carrying it full-time, and Dawson and Bailey adding support when needed. There’s still a place for one of Peatling or Berry, but probably not both if we want to be elite. In a genuinely top-end midfield, Soligo is probably your fourth-best mid, not the bloke you’re relying on to carry the group.

That’s the issue: we thought we’d be there this year, but realistically it looks more like 2027 or 2028. And if that’s the timeline, it actually makes the case for Lachie Neale stronger, not weaker.

Lachie's parents live in Robe the same as Jordan's parents maybe there's an in there, story in the paper currently that Lachie's parents are very much involved in the 2 children's life and though Lachie and the wife have their problems apparently they are very mature about the set up with the children.

You seem to be discounting Charlie Edwards, I'd be very hopeful he'd be in our future midfield plans because he has points of difference to all our current mids apart from Dawson.

We need to either develop Curtin/Draper/Rachele or recruit ready to go talent. Edwards will take time to be a starting type.

Why? If he was moving for a premiership... well he wouldn't move. Nicks is irrelevant to the decision, there are 1.5 million other reasons to move though.

Because enjoying your job is a massive factor in whether to change jobs

If you're already a high income earner, there is a strong incentive to stay at the current job you like, with all your current mates, rather than take a bigger offer at a potentially less enjoyable workplace.

Remember, if he stayed he'd be earning at least $6 million at Brisbane

Now if we sack Nicks, start winning, start playing fun football or whatever - we become a more attractive destination

I have less hope for a pick 21 than our top ten picks, the 2023 draft was particularly strong early and considered weak later - which it's proving to be.

I shouldn't discount him though, I'm more hoping Curtin takes that spot. It could be between Edwards and Berry for a spot.

Yeah, that sounds more like it but my point still stands that most of the rumours are fake and made up.
Or managers pushing for more $$

I'd be surprised if the item about Bailey on this week's Gettable actually represented a meaningful shift: I think it's been fairly well-known that his preference is to remain at Brisbane (why wouldn't it be?) but that the combination of their wage structure, our cap room, and being closer to his family gives us a real shot. Not sure that's changed.

Why do you think players wouldn't want to play for Nicks?

Fans have fan opinions - but Nicks seems to be widely respected across the league and players seem to want to play in sides that he coaches.

have you heard him speak?

The longer he talks, the more it sounds like waffle

Not when they could be playing for Chris Fagan

Talk about using fifty words when five will do:

“We feel like he (Dan Curtin) has done enough, nowadays the amount of work that goes into rehabbing a player and making sure they’re ready, there’s no exact science behind it - but Dan’s done a lot of work, even pre playing a game on the weekend,” Nicks said.

Dan’s done a lot of work “pre-playing a game”…? When else would he do it?

There’s “no exact science” behind that work, but there’s a lot of work about it “nowadays”….as opposed to when?

Thanks Nicksy, very clear.
