I was told this afternoon Ballard isnt just a supporter pipe dream. The dogs have reached out to his manager and there is an expectation that should he spend an extended period in the VFL his head would be turned.
Edit to add. He is also very good friends with Budarick.

The other one name mentioned which is something of a suprise to me is that the dogs have spoken to Rowan Marshall's management about where he sees his future.

Big fan of pre-injury Ballard. Think he'd have been close to the prototype Bevo wants as a defender

Would love to see him with some good form before we go too hard in the chase, someplayers just don't recover from these bad injuries even with modern technology. I know Coffield was a few years of back to back injuries but he was similar to Ballard, he is half the player now without the same athleticism and belief in his body. Ballard probably gets back to his best and if he does he'd be an excellent signing

Surprised by the Marshall one. Its not like we don't need a ruckman but surprised he is the target. Martin and English worked fantastic together in the limited time in 2021, Marshall is really the Martin of this generation, is English ready to go back to that old role? Does Bevo even want English back in that old role? The fifth interchange sort of allows for the second ruck better. I like how Freo has used it, Jackson still gets the majority of the role but Darcy or Cox have been able to play shortened roles still. If the plan is to use Marshall as St Kilda has used Marshall, I'm pretty skeptical of it. Marshall like Martin, because he is mobile you expect him to be useful outside of the ruck but he is not. He's ruck or he is a non-factor

Contacted until 2029 can’t see Gold Coast letting him go cheaply in a Trade
There's zero benefit of having a player on a good salary play reserves though when you can get a draft pick for him.

I believe he is on a VERY good salary. If he doesn’t break into the team you'd imagine they would want to move that off the books.
I fully expect he comes back in after getting some runs in the legs at VFL though. His value has plummeted now but he is too good of a player not to bounce back in my book.

I know he's had some injuries and his VFL form wasn't as good as his 2022 AFL form, but it seems strange to me that a player can go from signing a four-year deal one year and within one-offseason falls out of favour and does not get a game for all four of those years.
I present to you Ryan Gardner and Fletcher Roberts.

Fremantle will be a very good team this year at their best.

And Yes, they will likely smash us ruthlessly tonight, But I doubt they will be a serious premiership threat this year. Falling over the line against bottom 6 sides and looking extremely vulnerable while you do it, doesn’t inspire belief in neutrals.

Zero credits in the bank as well in terms of being able to perform come finals time. Agree they will most likely beat us but they have a lot of flakey guys.

With the MSD not far away I wonder how many spots we might free up before it and if we go for more mature needs-based players or if we take a longer-term view?

We only have one long term injury in Darcy unless you’re suggesting retiring Treloar against his will.

Depends if we place Garcia on the injury list

Ideally, two players on 6 months should be our aim

With Treloar understandably 'managed' (being a kind description of his omission), does he pull up stumps before the mid season draft? I absolutely love the guy but wouldn't be surprised.

Don’t think Adzy is the type of guy to retire just like that. Would be a disservice from us to push him to retire within the next 3 weeks too after all he’s given us.

Just the 1 pick up should be good enough (after putting Darcy on LTI). I’d be leaning towards taking the best mature KPD in the state leagues. Lobb can play the fwd/ruck role once he’s back.

Any fan who closely watched Treloar closely last year knew he was gone. Never got out of about 70%. Any time he did the hammy or calf went. Classic case of the club being too close to the player. Hard call had to be made last year, wasn't and I'd be surprised if he is not gone before mid-season draft. Gave us some great years, mind still wants to go but the body is saying know. Happens to all of us.

I can understand the club taking the chance on him given he won a best and fairest the season before but it was pretty clear in that VFL grand final it would be unlikely he would be useful this year.

I think that a mature medium defender would be the go for the MSD. Sellwood was intended to be plug and play but he was unlucky with a bad timed injury so I think we should go that route again.

If Will Darcy and Jordan Croft are not trained in the backline in the VFL then we should just pack it up. Why bother. Bevo is a pathetic defensive coach. We have no idea what to do.

Once again, I must reiterate. We need Butters badly. We were too damn soft when it mattered in the middle tonight. Bont, Richards, and Butters would be a killer rotation. All Elite, but play very distinct archetypes that complement each other nicely. Kennedy is a fine player, but he simply can't hack the pressure defensively.

Mongrel is needed! These run-ons cannot be allowed to continue.

Butters and a Medium Aerial defender, and we're set. Most likely a 2-year project if successful.

Mason Cox would have been handy.
