I’ve been a big defender of the field position gains, but it’s not valuable field position. 45m out on the boundary doesn’t do anything for us. You cop it when there’s relentless pressure on the ball against superior sides, but even with Richmond’s backline being their strongest unit you still have to try and ask them a question from time to time.Positive:
-Consistently generating enough supply and field position. This is a big change to recent years.
If we can’t force a stoppage deep in the forward pocket it’s not really letting us set up the wall, and if we do find a target they’re taking such low percentage shots it doesn’t really tell over the course of the game.
They’re entries for entries sake at the moment, Essendon have fallen into this trap for years under Brad Scott which is a frightening comparison in 2026.
