Bit of a difference then

Yes.

Hawthorn got Cooper Stephens, pick 41 and pick 50 for Tom Mitchell and he was 29.

Facts remain that players 30 and over rarely attract huge trade packages. Assuming it was a case of Carlton or a WA club I would be very surprised Freo finished 9th (or 7th) and offered their first round pick for Cripps. He would be their second oldest player and their core is 22-27 so they aren't in desperate win now mode (as they weekend showed, hur hur). No guarantees with picks but I doubt many Freo fans would be offering Murphy Reid for Cripps right now.

Fact remains that would be a garbage trade for Carlton so no reason we'd entertain it

Come 11th or 12th again then. There are 10 good teams in the comp and none of them are really concerned if the teams in 11th-18th want to sit on their cards.

Feel free to post what you think a realistic trade offer for Cripps would look like.

What do you think Pendlles and Lachie Neale are worth?

GAJ was traded for an upgrade from pick 24 to pick 19 and a future second round pick.

Cripps is a great player and has been for a long time. But he's not a highly valuable trade asset at this time.
Won 2 of the last 3 Brownlows before this season but yeah hey, just a packet of chips, yeah nah hey.

I'd never write him off but right now definitely not at his better value. I don't think there's much individually wrong with him, he just seems to have whatever the malaise is that takes over the whole team after half time or sometimes even quarter time. Maybe we have shit dieticians or something.

Media floating around that Carlton should put him up for trade to help regenerate their list

What do you think his value is / what would Carlton want for him?

The captain should go down with the ship.

Carlton would want more than any club would give.

Essendon could do worse than drafting a quality mid in the next draft and bringing in Cripps as a leader.

I can't imagine a Carlton captain is moving to Essendon though, too much undeserved chest puffing from clubs who've been irrelevant for 20+ years, but it could be a sensible situation where both parties win.

What could the Blues get for him? Would West Coast be willing to give up something decent to secure a Cripps that will be turning 32 before the 2027 season begins? Would be kind cool to see the two Cripps cousins playing together at the same club before one of them retires. Could Freo be a chance? Surely they'd have more assets to give Carlton for him and maybe it opens their premiership window.

I wouldnt even offer our 2nd round pick for him.
If the Blues were happy with our 3rd rounder for 2027 then id do it

To be honest.... Let us be realistic.

Cripps is out of contract in 2027 as a free agent. He just turned 31 last month, he will be 32 early in March next season. And possibly 33 when Tassie plays their 1st game in 2028.

So..... That leaves him with a few options...

1. Carlton offers him another year to play on in 2028.

2. He goes to a wa club. Goes to Fremantle on a 2 year deal as a 33 year old and offers experience. Or goes to west coast on a 2 or even a 3 year deal and helps the eagles go up the ladder.

3. Tasmania offers him a 1 or 2 year deal. He is in a leadership role like McDonald or Brogan or Chad Cornes was at GWS.

4. Straight up retires

The post you quoted was pretty realistic.

WC will like have picks 1-5 and 20-25 again. You aren't trading either of those for a 31 year old Cripps.

So for a trade to get done you are talking a 3rd round pick or later. If you are Carlton what do you get out of that? Unless they have someone like a Zak Butters lined up with a $2m+ deal or for some reason think Cripps is holding back their midfield there is no real benefit to giving him away.

So according to the report below Cripps wants to stay at Carlton... but do the Blues want to keep Cripps? The guys on Fox Footy's On The Couch seemed to think tonight that the idea of trading Cripps will be seriously discussed when Voss presumably gets the sack in the next few weeks.

Any club that wants an experienced elite inside mid - Cripps would demand a 3-4 year contract

Pick 15-25 would get it done.
