For those wondering who TMH is, that is Harry Van Hattum who is currently seen as the likely first available pick after Cochrane and Walker bids.

I won't be surprised to see Carlton finish last, bid on Cochrane at pick 1, take Van Hattum at pick 2, gain the extra pick in the draft and then match a bid on Walker after that.
If Carlton end last it’s quite possible

Whilst I would luv to secure TMH by winning the spoon, I think it is far more critical that our younger players
experience some success this year. We do not want our young brigade to be seeking opportunities elsewhere @ the end of their current contracts. Who knows....there is always the possibility TMH could go amiss early in his career.

Recovering from injuries and overcoming serpell isn’t enough of a success for our kids?

Dyl was also jizzing himself about Lindsay this time last year and thought sharp was shit, despite it already being clear that Lindsay was just a HBF.

Arki is far more talented than Lindsay but think a fair bit of the love so far comes from the early speculation that he’s a rusted on top 5 pick like Lindsay was (took about 3/4s of the season for most people to realise Lindsay was a pick 15-20). Arki has had 4 pretty meh games and 1 excellent match winning game. His foot skills overall have been poor in the 5 games I’ve watched, with a couple of blow your mind passes mixed in. He’s an incredible overhead mark for his size and strong through hips, with great agility and brilliant goal sense.

He could be a top 5 guy but he’d have to be way more consistently impactful than what he’s shown so far this year. Personally have him 8–12 behind

Dougie

Gap

TMH
Cody
Williams
Kodah
Drever
Snell

Small gap

Lecras (gonna be hard to place now with injury but what he did in the 2nd academy game was unbelievable)
Arki
Patterson
Herbert
Mellody

Read somewhere he played forward last year and was lost at sea.
Is Lecras tied to West Coast father son?

Nope, he’s the nephew of Marc. Dad played a handful of games for Norf.
Oh nice

I’d love him at Richmond
Looks all class

Hey what do you think of our chances of packaging our pick 18 & 19 or something like that to move up to get a pick 10 or thereabouts?

What is the club thinking you reckon?

I think we need to take HVH. We’d be stupid not too, also next year we win 2 games against TAS, we have a higher chance of beating Carlton, WCE and North seeing as our boys are year 3. As long as as Serpell and dune pull there heads out of the sand. Next year is an easy 4-8 win season. Tank now and boom next season.
Arki is probably tanking for a reason.

We won’t be able to trade the bid compo to get into the first round because you only get the pick at the end of the night.

We don’t get the compo pick until after night 1 so can’t be used to trade up. Not convinced the AFL gives us another.

There might be someone who wants to trade down but there is so much to play out with draft order and afl ladder position so impossible to say.

I’d love to target Snell as I think our KPD stocks look shakey with Gibcus injury and young gone. But the 3 games I’ve watched him this year he could genuinely go top 5 with a great champs.

That being said I reckon you could say that about anyone on my list above and some others like Chapman or Teixeria (who I forgot to add to the above but I haven’t seen him play this year yet, loved him last year when he went toe to toe with Grlj). This class looks to be incredibly athletic so I think. guys could make giant leaps up the order with great champs.

Though I think our 2nd pick will be on the table for a Wilson or Marshall etc.

How tall is Snell

What I like about this draft class is that it won't matter what picks we end up with we're going to be able to address list needs right through the draft. There are a few rucks, some KPP talent in particular KPD as well as medium sized options that can play in a range of positions.

A strong performance from Gus Teixeira, showing the strengths of his game that have him starting to appear inside the top 10 of some early ranking lists. His pace and slick kicking skills on the outside are eye catching, and he's powerful and tough enough inside to win his own ball. He had a stint in the forward line early in the fourth quarter where he kicked two quick goals, both from lead/mark and lovely set shot kicks, underpinning his dual threat as a mid/fwd.

If you like it, I like it too.

I won't be surprised to see Carlton finish last, bid on Cochrane at pick 1, take Van Hattum at pick 2, gain the extra pick in the draft and then match a bid on Walker after that.
Lets be realistic here and not get caught up in the hype

carlton are going through a bad patch but they are still competitive and can easily still win games
They have Port , Essendon , Richmond & Eagles games to come and based on their form they could win all of these games and most likely win 3 out of the 4 of these games. not to mention any of the other games where they may win unexpectedly

if they had our injuries different story but their current best 23 is decent enough to knock over other bottom 8 teams pretty reliably cant see them spooning.

I think you have to use the extra pick and cannot trade it. I wonder if using it as a package of pick is allowed. Can anybody who understands the new rules confirm that?

The picks isn't awarded until after the first round is completed. As it stands Carlton has 2 x R1 picks in this draft and 2 x R1 picks in next years draft. With the ability to go into deficit they could do what I suggested and still hold 2 x R1 picks next year as well, albeit their first pick would drop back a little due to covering the deficit.

I'm not getting caught up in the hype, I'm looking at their results this year and the fact that in the not too distant future they'll be undertaking a search for a new coach after Voss gets the flick. I also don't see us being as bad as we have been across the first 8 weeks at times. We're going to get back the likes of Taranto Nankervis Rioli Alger & Armstrong back which should strengthen our ability to compete. However I still think we'll only end up with 3-4 wins ourselves and be in the mix for the spoon along with Essendon WCE & Carlton because we'll most likely have more injuries as the year progresses.

I wouldn’t be convinced if we were to overlook Van Hattum if we get pick 1.

He’s a hulking beast with super agility, but I don’t believe Richmond have ever felt a big need to invest heavily in ruckman.

Zero Hanger have Jack Pickett at pick 3 behind Cochrane and Walker.
Before his ACL he was tracking at an elite rate. He is a potential match winning forward. He went at 4 goals a game in his bottom age season. Has amazing hands and he could very well be someone we’ve already tracked for a while and if Butler and Van Hattum underwhelm we may just take a flyer on Pickett.

Only issue is we won't get that compo pick until after night one.

I doubt we pick him as well and but this time we will get it wrong.

I'm not covering opposition father/son & academy linked players as we're unlikely to get them
with bulldogs right into butters
theres a very good chance
they wont have enough
draft picks for him

I haven’t posted on here at all this season, but thought I’d start with my pre-Champs top 30 rankings.

It’s an interesting class, a lot of 175-185cm mids, some of which show forward capabilities. How they separate themselves over the course of the year will be interesting.

Overall not as much elite level talent at the top end (Cochran, Walker and HVH), but some intriguing, high potential players very deep. A few high prospects will have a question on what is their role at an AFL level.

For those interested, I have both Archie Daffy and Jack Leys in the rookie pick bracket at this stage, although both would be worthy of an AFL list spot in my eyes.

Happy to answer any questions.

Is Butler more Forward/Midfielder than the opposite? Who is the best genuine midfielder with pace, skill and ball getting ability - that isn't a scaredy cat
