Typical timeline would mean circa end Jan27 full running if surgery at the end of the season.

From AI
After a shoulder reconstruction, you can typically start jogging or running at 12 weeks (3 months) post-surgery. While it may seem like an "upper body" recovery, running is discouraged earlier because the repetitive impact and "bouncing" motion can jar the healing repair, and the risk of a fall could cause catastrophic damage to the surgical site.
Typical Progression to Running
0–6 Weeks: No running. The shoulder is immobilised in a sling. Any jarring motion can pull on the anchors or sutures holding the labrum or tendons in place.

6–12 Weeks: Low-impact cardio only. Once the sling is removed, you may be cleared for stationary cycling or a "no-arms" elliptical, provided there is no significant shoulder swing.

12 Weeks (3 Months): Initial Jogging. Most protocols allow a return to light jogging on flat, even surfaces. A study found that about 60% of patients could comfortably run one mile at this stage.

4.5+ Months: Unrestricted Running. By this point, roughly 75% of patients return to their full pre-surgery running capacity as shoulder stability and control improve.

i reckon he doesn't actually need it any more but Serpell will go ahead and book him in for surgery

Change of heart by the club maybe?
Now I have to reverse my trade and put him back into my SuperCoach team
So funny in the supercoach trades thread how the comment from dunne planted enough seeds of doubt in people’s minds that they’ve backed out of trading in Cumming en masse. I’d have thought people would realise by now never to select Richmond players anyway

I have 4 of them

I have not traded him into my side mainly because his shoulder could go any minute but what would i know

2 scores of 80, I was onboard, THEN Dunney comes out with the early op news, I’m off him and on Burton.
Back on Cummo 🤞, hoping there’s plenty more scores of 80 in him.

Would of been an issue back in the day when we actually had limited trades but now because we get so many it’s not a huge deal, worst case scenario he plays one game but he’s still going to net you 20k

At the end of the day every player could get injured any game so he’s not really any extra risk

I'd we delay it so he misses the start of preseason thats stupidity
It’s either he misses games now or misses some of the preseason.
I’d rather him play games tbh. It just may mean he misses a couple of games to start next year

dafuq is supercoach

We don’t have anyone to replace him with

If the depth was there maybe you go surgery early to get a full preseason but without that depth it’s probably too detrimental to the team to lose him when he can still contribute

Preseasons are so underestimated especially for young players, its the foundations for their season ahead and the development they need. Its the players that have strong preseasons that are usually the bolters the following year.

I'd much rather him be set for a fully fit 22 games in 2027 at the cost of a month of 2026 games. That's before any risk of delayed healing or complications that could set him back even further.

So by that calculation, he could play through to about the bye, then it's a little over 5 months until the start of pre-season training in November.
