Injury crisis yes, but reality is very few of the outs make us a significantly better team.
Nank and Lalor yes, Prestia maybe, but we know playing all three of Prestia, TT and Hopper do not make us better. Maybe Brown, maybe KMac, maybe a couple of others at the margins. That’s where we are at as a team.
It’s all just about accelerating development. Current situation is an opportunity to make those choices…where players are available.

Smylie Hotton Gibcus Mansell Rioli KMac - that’s a qtr of the team
Plus Alger Armstrong Simms who would almost certainly displace Greene, Fawcett and OHB

Surely we would perform better

Completely different looking line up and structures that can be put in place with the 2nd line up as opposed to the first. That's not including the long term injured in Smillie Clarke Gibcus who you can't really include at the moment given how much football they've missed.

He doesn’t worry me, his best is phenomenal but when he makes mistakes his whole game falls apart. It’s either a really really good game or a really really bad game.

Compare that to Grlj who might be down one week but he’s not a liability. This is why I think he’s on a short leash from the coaches cos his bad games seem from him being rash and over confident more than anything.

Fair call on his fluctuating form, good/bad, but I think the criticism is justified. His mistakes are more common than not, hence his whole game falls apart as you alluded to, which imo is a worry. He seriously needs to work on his decision-making and kicking. Probably biting off more than he can chew, but they do become very costly.

In saying that, he's still very young, and I have high hopes for Trainor.

How do you come to that conclusion? Gib is very much done, Rioli. 2 good things about a game: Mansell is Mansell, just serviceable; Smylie hasn't smiled at all; and Hotton, well, could be the best of them, hopefully, and KMAC is good but injured every other day. On the other side, we hardly got any veterans worth talking about to help improve the kids! Nah, it's dark everywhere. You look on the list.

Surely you have to be joking.

i get the injuries but seriously what is our coaching panel and yze doing? uncontested possessions. no system from kick ins.
Well no, you clearly don't get the injuries. We have 20 players out through injury - we are going to play some horrid football at times. To lose by 'only' 6-goals today was a great effort. The team is trying hard, we just don't stand a chance at the moment. You could give any team an injury list of 20...and I mean ANY team...and they'd struggle to compete. Let alone a team in the early stages of a rebuild.

19 injuries after 10 rounds of football. Have to seek permission from AFL to top up list. It's only ever happened during COVID.

It's a blight on the club. It's an embarrassment also we look like wussies. Obviously there is a systemic problem in fitness conditioning and rehabilitation.

People say we're doing well when you consider injuries. A silver lining kind of bs view. You can't rebuild with 19 injured. The injured aren't practising, rebuilding. They're sitting in the boxes watching with their legs dangling over the seat in front.

Only bright spots for me was Short, Faull, Miller & Trezise. I can see a bright future front with Faull and Fawcett up front. Vlaustin and Broad showed some glimpses of their former selves.

The best moment in the game (summarizes the umpiring and how the players felt about it)

a perfect running-back-with-the-flight spoil called a front-on-contact free :) well done Jonty to spoil Banfield here

You know the WORST bit..it was called by the OUT OF ZONE umpire!! It drives me insane when an OOZ umpire gets involved to overrule an umpire who is closer and in perfect position. Unless you are 100% a howler of a decision has been missed...stay the FOOK out of it.

And needless to say, the ball spilt to our guys who were going to head forward with numbers and space....but from the free kick the Saints kicked a goal.

It was pretty poor quality footy.

More injuries, despite the tempo being like a praccy. Positives Faull & Short. Nrt kicked a cpl & despite Fawcett doing a fair bit wrong, kicked 3.

I still dont see a gameplan to get excited about tho. And it still looks like several players are going backwards
Which players do you believe we have earmarked to be part of our contending team in future years (ie. 2029 onwards) are going backwards?

The only players I'd expect to be part of that team are: Ross, Taranto, Miller, Campbell, Grlj, Faull, Cumming, Balta, Trainor and maybe 1 or 2 others.

I don't think there's any reason to worry if players like Sonsie, Fawcett, Tresize (was good today), Retschko, Burton or Steely Green etc...aren't shooting the lights out - they'd almost certainly not be playing if we had ten less injuries.

Yeah agree it looks different and I really like what some of those players will become.
But right now, is Brown a game winning upgrade on Gray? Mcauliffe for Tresize, playing on a wing Tresize might have him covered (on today’s game) in future when KMac is hopefully regular inside mid that’s a different story. Hotton will be a star if he gets time on the park, but last year averaged 12D. Armstrong averages 5D and 0.6G replacing Fawcett 5D and 2G, that’s (currently) a downgrade. Lalor absolutely acknowledged him. The bench you name is stronger but changing the dial right now?

My post was being a little provocative, and of course it’s hard to get consistent game process and structure etc. But realistically with all those players we win a few more games. In a couple of years, if we’ve been able to get 50 games into KMac, Hotton, Alger, maybe Smillie, Sims, Armstrong etc etc that’s when our story changes. For me, the pain right now is not losing games it’s not having some of our best developing talent on the park.

This is on the podium as one of the worst takes in BigFooty history.
