I think most committees try there best to pull it into line.

This year, we had a bit of an issue with Centrals & there President handled it well.

Against Souths, not sure if committee or president but someone came over to the coaches box during the game & apologised for a comment that was made.

On the weekend I did see a couple of our committee members go over to the boys on the hill and was chatting to them and also seen one of the diggers runners chatting to one of there spectators for comments being made to one of our players.

Nothing wrong with a bit of friendly banter but when you walk around the ground you hear a lot of very average comments.
I was at the South game and don’t recall any apologies nor did I hear any untoward comments other than some words post an on field incident which can usually occur.

Great to hear the Diggers runner doing that. As mentioned I find Diggers to be a well run club that make visitors feel welcome.

The stuff I don’t like is when younger people sitting in cars getting drunk a bit drunk and carry on for absolutely no reason other than being stupid weak individuals who believe they are protected by the fence. As said they never go into rooms post games and if some player or spectator approaches them most of them would run off or cry foul. It could get really nasty one day and all because of a few clowns. Presidents committees etc know who they are yet they mostly do stuff all unless a complaint is made so they act after the fact. That’s going to be to late and yes I blame the clubs as they can see it early and some encourage it, until it’s called out.

The grounds a pretty big area.

Can’t be expected to hear every comment.

Good on the Souths guy for coming over and apologising though.

Hey Iceman, don’t wish to continue to debate this but if the club president/commitee of clubs don’t know where these people place themselves around the ground then they are kidding themselves and encouraging it, as it’s only certain spots and usually 1 location these clowns are. Yes grounds are big but it’s 1 certain area that usually is the area for these clowns to position themselves. Just need to enjoy the contest. If anything untoward happens on field then we can understand some comments but otherwise it’s just uncalled for..

I totally agree with you.

I’m just saying that I think most presidents & committees do there very best to squash it.

Cheers mate. I respect your opinions and like reading your posts on this forum.

I guess at a lot of grounds if me and you walked around a ground 20mins into the first or second quarter we could pin point an area that has set up that looks to be potentially trouble spot.
However I’m also well aware that certain clubs are known to promote groups getting together and this spells trouble..

Souths bay13 area are very vocal but it’s in good humour, as that crowd is more matured aged supporters. Only fire up if there was an incident during game.
Round 1 was some excellent banter with Callum Moore. I think he got a few soft frees and he was smiling to the crowd in a good way as kind of “ how did I get that free” More out of respect for his ability but he was also entertaining it and the crowd loved it. At times you just have to pay respect to good fair players even if they are on the opposing side. No need to insult players for no reason.

Carlise at Wallan v South game and hurt his hand. But he was in some pain on the boundary line with his trainers but having a chat to a handful of south supporters which was great to see. He is known to push the boundaries and can cop a bit but at that game we seen the good side to him. Maybe due to the result was going his way 😉

Cheers

That’s a ridiculous thing to say that some clubs promote this kind of stuff….
Let’s be real, The last thing any president or committee member of a club want is this sort of stuff occurring at games. Unfortunately some push boundaries but you can’t control everyone at the ground.

If only all clubs were like Sth and were fair, polite and courteous every week the world would be a better place

Just gone onto the match replays and the Wallan v Diggers game that appeared at the top of the screen is reserves so they have it around the wrong way seniors & reserves.

Riddell v South game 24min mark of second quarter a melee and yellow card issued to a Riddell player. Question is should that be a free kick?? My opinion is definitely should be.

Best game in a Wallan jumper for Short.

That mark of Viani's was an outstanding moment in so many ways. The mark itself and the two blokes who showed no fear for what may have happened. Pity he didn't kick the goal.

I just think Jake's super cool and that attitude came come across sometimes. Was my BOG too.

Very impressed with Diggers given the injuries they suffered.
What position is Short playing?

Turbo questioning the umpires from the weekend.
The weekly $1.01 shot lands

Just need a comment on opposition crowd abuse to the most innocent club in Australia and we have landed an early quinella

Just a question as actually thought the umpiring wasn’t that bad and this melee the umpire was right on it and did an excellent job. Just wondering if it should be a free as well as card was issued.

No need to get your knickers in a knot Bev.

Whats everyones thoughts on who will finish 6th?

Early on but the top 5 looks set, just a matter of who finishes where.

The battle for 6th looks like it might be entertaining.

Having seen Centrals, Souths & Woodend in action, I thought Woodend looked the best of the 3.

Yet to see Romsey but on paper, they look to have a dropped off a little. Lost a few & picked up little. There 2s have gone from playing in the last 2 GFs to struggling to put a score on the board.

I think Gisborne & Lancefield finish in the bottom 2.

The games when Souths, Centrals, Woodend & Romsey play each other will be crucial and a massive bonus if any of them can beat any of the top 5 teams.

Without looking into the fixture to much, I’m gonna go with Woodend followed by Romsey, Souths, Centrals.

My opinion may change once we play Romsey.

Off topic a little bit.

Unfortunately, my grandson has been stuffed around by the two clubs he hooked up with and is now waiting on another one to sign with. Has allowed me to watch more Wallan games, which is good.

Anyway, I took him to watch his uncle play and to expose him to some Australian Football. He really enjoyed it and was impressed with the athleticism of the players. When I told him Chris Stewart was over 40, he was like WTF? Introduced him to some Wallan royalty also, and that topped off a wonderful day for him, which ended listening to the boys sing the song with gusto.

Some things that stood out for him were the speed of the game, the ability of players to jump that high, and he was super impressed with that mark. Thought some of the kicking was a bit ordinary, but acknowledged the continuous pressure players were under.

I was very happy to help another Kiwi understand and appreciate the game just that little bit more.

Who’s the 5th side that looks set?

Im gathering Wallan, Diggers, Macedon, Riddell are the usual top 4 and pretty settled. Kyneton got beat by South albeit a point but not sure how you can put them in without South.
But South have a tough draw and a few injuries.

From what I seen from both teams against wallan, Kyneton look far better.

Kyneton throughout the day looked like they might take the 4 points yet the game we played against Souths, it looked like they might take margin was gonna be closer to 100 points then what it ended up being.

Happy to be proven wrong, but I’m pretty confident Kyneton will finish in the top 5 and Souths will be battling for 6th.

Yeah you could be right and understand how you think that way. Kyneton has some bigger bodies so probably a better match up for Wallan. South probably better on bigger open grounds where then can run and spread but agree atm Kyneton do look to be the 5th side.

let’s all be very conscious to what could be happening in this competition as it’s gone from appearing to be one of the more even competitions over the last 3-4 years to now being dominated to some degree by 2 clubs who appear to have a lot of $$$. Hopefully the league is watching things closely!

Some small movements for mine after this round of football.

Guaranteed Finalists:
Diggers Rest
Wallan
Macedon
Riddell

In the mix:
Kyneton
Melton South

Every game counts:
Romsey
Woodend/Hesket

Almost down and out:
Gisborne Giants
Melton Centrals

Ruling them out:
Lancefield

I have South above both Woodend and Romsey, but the comment about the draw is absolutely fair and could impact their chances as the season unfolds, those "8-point" games are going to be vital and they can't afford to drop the heads, after this week they will have played everyone in the top 5 in their first 6 games. That is a tough start.

Good post Auck. They will probably need to take a scalp to ensure a finals birth.
Not sure they have the list to beat Macedon this week but the return Riddell match ( last round) and Kyneton away will be telling.

Had to double check if I changed my name then or if someone else had posted my exact thoughts :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

Riddell, diggers and Romsey have dominated the last 25 years to be fair.
16 flags between them.
Things go in cycles. Wallan haven't exactly dominated the league so maybe it’s just their turn. They are having a decent crack that’s for sure and good on em.
