Shoutout to the moronic umpire for letting Harry use 30 seconds for a shot on goal he was never going to actually take.

That would be Eleni.

Actually think this is the wrong take.

Do you, for example, want Treacy or Clark to be disallowed a shot in the same circumstance. Because if they answer is no, I want them to be given 30s, then you're asking for even more subjective decisions to be in the umpires hands.

The rule is wrong unless you are Malcolm Blight. Feel like if you indicate outside 50 you are shooting for goal to burn the clock and then just chip it to a teammate who takes a mark it should then be automatic play on.

Ross has set the saints back 5 years. In no man's land. They should have been hitting the draft hard before Tassie.
His press conferences used to be entertaining, now they are horrendous and painful to observe. Someone should have asked him why with 24 seconds left on a stoppage he had 4 players who couldn't pick up Heeney and then also left Serong on his own just off the pack but then he would have just dismissed the question anyway.

I would prefer it being you don't get the extra time outside 50. Just a normal mark.

The rule should be,
"If a player has used his 30 secs and doesn't have a shot then the team doesn't get another 30 secs until the ball comes outside 50. If the initial kick doesn't go inside 50, play on."

Ross really shouldn't have gone back into coaching.

He had a cushy job in the media, why mess with a good thing?
He can probably go back to it whenever. He just wants to take another crack. He got one non 15 meter call away from beating the second best team 😏 saints aren't going so bad.

Terrible game of football that only Carlton supporters will think was good, and the weasels in commentary box wanking over them.
Whately has been talking them up as Wild Card for 3 weeks.

The prick even wanted to put them in his seedings last week.

Meanwhile it took Freo winning 8 games to even get a start.

Muppet.

If you want to play that sort of game, might be better to make the next kick can't be paid a mark to the team mates of the person "taking the shot" if they take 30 seconds outside the 50 but don't take a shot.

There will be guys who can kick them, and they should get the bonus in both pay and results from their ability to be able to.

He was 60m out. Didn’t mark the ball on the 50.

It was clear as day what he was doing.

I would expect any Fremantle player to do the exact same thing.

No issue with it for me.

Maybe, so you'd like the umps to make guesses to both player intent and ability to kick the distance which they have to estimate.

I think that's reasonable. No mark able to be taken by team mate from a shot outside 50. I'd prefer that than umpires making judgements about range/intent.

Still though, you're adding yet another fiddly rule to a difficult to umpire game because of a rarely occurring loophole.

Until the last minute of the Sydney vs saints game it was looking like a Millhouse weekend
Saints showed the comp how to beat the swans.

Sometimes losing a battle can win the war.

Nobody is taking issue with McKay. The issue is with the umpiring/rules.
Totally get why people are frustrated.

The standard of umpiring this season has been poor at best.

Every week there's a new umpiring controversy. This is just the latest in poor calls.
