fair. but for what he will cost it's not worth it imo. like you can get the same athletics traits with a draftee that costs nothing.
A draftee costs a draft pick and is speculative. You still have to develop them and hope it works out.
Humphrey is developed, he's just not being played in his natural position and also looks checked out (guessing he also wants to go home).
It will cost probably one and maybe two first round picks for him. Worth it in my opinion for what known development and attributes he brings.
Don't forget we have already used like 6 first round picks in the last 3 years. Time to start trading for the future as well.

With Humphrey we've got a guy who is proven to be ineffective at half forward so there goes the dusty/petracca comparisons and he's also completely unproven in the midfield. So what's left over? Humphrey is just as speculative as a draftee at this stage. He's not fired a shot so far. Now we can also throw in the fact that if he has mentally checked out then that is now another bad trait in an footy player. A guy that selects when he performs and when he doesn't.

The only good thing about Humphrey is his age. We should be targeting other players in the same age range.

Kicked 25 last year as a half forward. More than double Sparrow ever has in the same role

I agree about the checked out thing. It's not a good look. But it could mean anything. I was checked out of my previous job because it was meaningless and my manager was an arseh*le. Now I've changed careers and thriving. Maybe going home it was he needs to be settled and happy, and a change of environment will help him professionally.

I mean yeah, I'd like him on the list but I just know that the Suns would want 2 first rounders. And to me he's worth a late first round pick (14-18). And the gap in value wouldn't get the trade done.

Stupid take. Good lockdown defenders are like hen’s teeth.

Would you give up that capital for a Sam Wicks, Jayden Nguyen or Noah Answerth?

I would for a rebounding Hibberd, Roberts, Blakey type but it’s overs for a pure lockdown back pocket. Ain’t no one selecting a lockdown back pocket in the first round. We were lucky to have gotten what we did for Mcvee.

Anyway it’s moot argument as I highly doubt we keep him as a lockdown back pocket long term. If anything I rather try this bloke in the Humphrey role before Humphrey.

Disagree, if draft picks meant **** all then why do clubs bother trading them?
I didn't say they mean stuff all. but once the player is in the system, and we've seen them play/train etc. the number is irrelevant. Like Watts was a scrub for 10 years, a lot of us knew it after 3 years. Him being pick 1 was irrelevant from this point onwards. Same as Jefferson. We've seen a couple of games from Paddy Cross and we've already seen more from him than from Jeffo. So Jeffo being a late first rounder is irrelevant. But maybe we're talking about diff things?

Obviously the earlier the draft pick, there's more chance of getting a good player.

Disagree again, while I don’t agree with it, some players who went high seem to get more leway in their career. Doubt we would have looked twice at Schache if he wasn’t a pick 2. Cam Rayner would be playing in the 2s if he wasn’t a high pick.

Billings another good example, absolute spud but somehow kept getting opportunities. Will be interesting if Humphrey gets dropped or not due to this same reason.

yeah but aren't you now just agreeing with me? You just said that you wouldn't have given Schache, Billings etc. another go? Either would I. Yeah, sometimes the clubs do but they're wrong when they do this most of the time for the very reason that they get sucked in by what number they were drafted at.

Actually staggers me that he already looks like a 200 game player down back. Has the perfect mentality for a defender and all the athletic traits, plus his kicking looks so much better now we have put some faith in him. Can't remember who said it on here earlier in the year so apologies but they spoke to him at a function and he said under Goody he had no idea what his role was and Goody didn't really communicate much with him. Would be a massive breath of fresh air for him with King coming in and saying it is OK to mess up.
Was me, someone I know spoke to him. Apparently he's a legend and hated playing under Goody. Was very open that he was probably going to leave if Goody remained.

Happy for Kolt, always liked him. Nice to see someone seemingly get better and grow week on week.

Yeah must admit I thought he'd be a mid forward type, a de goey type when drafted. Sometimes thing's change for the better. Someone mentioned he was over thinking things before, I agree with that. Amazing how simplifying his role and easing the pressure helps. He defends first and the attacks second. His kicks aren't safe boring kicks either. Reckon he makes good safe decisions but genuinely puts us in a good position to attack.

Im sure it's happened before but I can't recall a player with such little composure turning it around like this. Been unreal.
Agree, can't believe how calm I am when he has to collect a dirty ball under pressure now. Feel better with him in that situation than anyone else on the list. What a turnaround, well done to him. Looks like he has put in a POWER OF WORK.

Honestly now I think about it he always had being a Hibbo type written all over him. Hibbo had the exact same strengths (Good athletic profile, underrated kick, could defend ground and air and had a very strong mental game).
I said the other week he reminds me of Isaac Quaynor and I still think thats pretty spot on. Yeah he might have the athletic testing but it really doesnt show up in game like it did for Hibbo who was a beast at attacking run out of D50.

Good call, you see it in the contest but not in free play

Is floating up the ground more and more also and hitting some good lateral passes, might have even had a score assist or two going inside 50 v Essendon. Still reckon his best position is half forward.

I find it so weird someone is flourishing as a defender and fans want them to be thrown forward for no reason.
We're conditioned to it now

Not when you see the posters doing it

Who on earth is suggesting that? Goody?

He's finally finding his feet and is contributing positively to the team and someone wants him moved out of the current position? Wowee. King has obviously tapped into his competitive talent and given him tasks defensively every week, He's thriving on it.
