It was a clear 50. Only the umpire knows why he didn't pay it.

What are some of the biggest pieces of revisionist history in the AFL?

Yes, it was pretty clear what that exchange was about.

Proposal to include premierships dating back to 1870 gathering pace

Yep, the AFL has become an all-powerful monster, whose "custodian of the game" responsibilities run a distant second to the commercial interests of the AFL competition itself. Now, there is nothing wrong with the AFL maximising the commercial gains of the AFL competition, as that money funds...

Proposal to include premierships dating back to 1870 gathering pace

Yes, I was only going off the top of my head. My point was that it is external to the game's administration.

Proposal to include premierships dating back to 1870 gathering pace

The ANFC had the same role in Australia, that was gobbled up by the AFL as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_National_Football_Council

Proposal to include premierships dating back to 1870 gathering pace

Just further on this. I went to a meeting involving Sydney AFL clubs and the AFL NSW/ACT admin in the late 90s/early 2000s. This was still in the "infancy" days of the AFL in Melbourne pumping millions into footy in NSW. It was made very clear in that meeting that the AFL was funding the game...

Proposal to include premierships dating back to 1870 gathering pace

And we are in the perfect thread to highlight one of the areas that the self-appointed "custodian of the game" fails spectacularly - the game's history. The AFL pays lip service to researching and recording the history of the game. It's really only interested in the history of the AFL...

What are some of the biggest pieces of revisionist history in the AFL?

That comes from the AFL itself.

What are some of the biggest pieces of revisionist history in the AFL?

Correct. They were part of it. But not the sole reason, which was the revisionist attitude I was correcting.

Proposal to include premierships dating back to 1870 gathering pace

Yes. I've long argued that those two roles need to be split.

That's how it used to be done. It was called the Australian National Football Carnival.

What are some of the biggest pieces of revisionist history in the AFL?

That North Melbourne's success in the 70s was because of the 10 year rule.

Brownlow: Time to remove ‘fairest’ in best and fairest

Yeah, it's the Midfielders' Medal these days. When I first started following the game, you had players like Thompson, Moore, Dempsey, Teasdale, Moss, Quinlan, Round etc who won the Brownlow. Non-midfielders such as those players have no hope of winning these days.

Opinion Draws, do we want them?

If draws don't happen that often then I don't see the problem. And a draw is a result - not just a win or a loss qualifies as such.

Opinion Draws, do we want them?

In reality, all it is in Rugby League is each side trying to get into position to score a field goal. There's nothing particularly amazing about that.

    RIP Cam McCarthy

It's a lonely place when you are engulfed by darkness, and one that is very difficult to navigate your way out of. Some are able to, sadly many are not. Freo robbed !!! Ball was clearly touched. AFL media trying to cover up the obvious umpire error

So do I, but that was 50 or so years ago. There was nowhere near the amount of scrutiny back then, so there was nowhere near the amount of controversy. NRL Captain's Challenge.

Freo robbed !!! Ball was clearly touched. AFL media trying to cover up the obvious umpire error

It's not the first dissent ruling I've seen this season. There was another I recall seeing (can't remember the game) when the player told the umpire to look at the replay, and copped a 50 which took his opponent's shot for goal to the goal line.
