I have nothing of value to add regarding Hollands as a player, but the 6.5 marks a game would include uncontested marks which is generally more of am indicator of work rate.
I also think that quite a few clubs make a number of needs based picks and especially this year with reducing list sizes they would only focus on so many midfielders.
I know it’s just a highlights package, but he looks impressive, I really like his composure with ball in hand. He looks as good a bet as you could hope for at pick 41.
He obviously got a low offer from the Saints, they would’ve preferred to keep him but I don’t think they are too fussed.
I like he’s a good recruit though. We are getting him for nothing and the fact he went through free agency unclaimed would suggest his salary won’t be that much. He’s had a...
Every club does this........ Every club.
Ultimately there are only 3 midfielders plus 2 wings starting at any one time.
Every club does this, every club, every club. The amount of players that started in the back line is enormous, it's actually far less common for players to start straight in...
I guess the good thing is that we aren’t setting unrealistic expectations on him. Just an extremely smart footballer and a good decision maker with poise. He won more footy this year than any draftee............. ever. The consistency he displayed suggest first class work rate and mental...
I like that we have backed ourselves and despite many thinking we are a lock for bottom 2-3 I think we will surprise a few next year. But the reality is that our list, whilst extremely talented, is very thin for depth of experienced quality and it could end up being a high price paid. If we get...
SOS said after the draft that “we back our recruiters in”, regarding the trade. Agresta, Brodie and team rank and list the players, SOS is the deal maker. As everyone else has said, that was fantastic to watch and shows clearly why they did what they did. It was great to see the discussions...
Everyone wanted Oliver. We wanted him, it was funny to watch him fly up the draft board. He just kept rising, several teams wanted him, he rose up and we were taking him, then Melbourne, then Essendon, and then Melbs had to use pick 3 on him.
We has 574 billion posts about Sam prior to the draft whereas Stocker wouldn't have even been thought of as an option for us and not previously discussed.
On the draft coverage, Walsh was having a laugh with Butters and Stocker prior to the draft. Whilst probably nervous and not absolutely certain about his future, he would have been fairly confident he would end up a Blue. He wouldn’t have been expecting any of the other players present in the...
We tried. It’s hard to attract players when you win 2 games for the year. It’s the young guys who aren’t yet established who are more interested. Setterfield is a massive get for us if we can get him fit. Class act!
But what is a "fair price"?
He will be 32 next year and I think teams will be reluctant to give him a lengthy contract. I see us getting the same compensation we got for Jarrad Waite, possibly a third round pick if we are lucky.
I cannot see one advantage to losing him, no positive to it at all...
What position did Pickett play?
I'm just glad To see Byrne run out games unscathed at the moment. I've never done an ACL but it must really affect your confidence for a while.
Nice one. I've had my doubts on the kid, I thought he was a bit of a long shot, just never found much of the ball in the juniors or VFL. His numbers for his age/experience are really stacking up but more importantly he is really impacting games. Two very good games in a row, thoroughly deserved...
Haha, I love the thread title. Everybody loves an underdog story, whipping boy comes good. Still early days so I don't want to get carried away but if he keeps playing like yesterday he will have a long and fruitful career ahead of him. 198cm, great closing speed and agility, nice kick. Career...
Our medics have a lot to answer for here. This has happened many times before, if a player has a problem on the outside of the knee you have to be careful, even if tests don't show a tear. This has probably ended his career, given his age and how long it takes to recover and then regain...
Thanks for your comments on the game Rightbak@ya and thy, much appreciated. Great to hear Jaksch had a real go and Boekhorst getting involved. Jaksch has so much talent, hope he can turn things around and have a great career.
This is a strange post, it just sounds arrogant and almost as though you are trying to suggest you are a better judge of an athlete than professional full time recruiters. Generally in the past we have taken the athlete ahead of the natural footballer. It's the same with all the clubs really...
Ok, they obviously see a good role for him to support the younger guys. Let's face it, once you get to the second round of the rookie draft you are getting players with serious question marks. It's not like we didn't just add a lot of youth over the off season.
I remember reading your post about this guy a few months ago and brushing it off as some BS some guy has given you. Nice mail, he looks a likely type.
That video of his reaction to being recruited isn't playing on my computer for some reason, wish I could see it.
I'm really glad we pulled the trigger with our pick, classy players like this are not easy to find. We are building a side that is going to be very entertaining to watch.
I think Bolton is a huge asset for the club, you can't succeed if you don't work extremely hard in this caper. The more enjoyable things can be made, the easier the workload will be. Happy people perform better.
This was my favourite selection of the lot. This was the guy I was hoping we would take months ago, when it became apparent we were taking SPS with our first I just assumed we would go for a bigger guy with this pick, I'm really happy we just took best available.
I saw this kid make his WAFL...
He really does remind me of Weitering and I would be very surprised if one of them isn't played forward this year. This kid is pure quality, his price may have been a bit higher than the other GWS kids but there was a reason for that. Quality talls are very valuable, if it weren't for his...
