I think Johnson just needs a little more time. His development will be similar to Rotham's who took a number of years before seeing regular games. He's got a penetrating kick on him but could do with a little more weight.
Humphries, Soka and Berry our academy boys were named BOG for their respective clubs over the weekend.
Snippet from the West.
East Perth 13.5 (83) d Swan Districts 7.7 (49)
The cream rose to the top for East Perth with key forward Jye Amiss and fellow draft fancy Kade Dittmar starring in a...
Our forwards just struggle to find separation which leads to the ball hitting the deck, being contested and rebounding back.
Compare this to forward entries that the Geelong forwards were receiving and it looks like they kept strolling through for marks with little to no pressure.
I don't think there's a list spot available?
I wouldn't read too much into todays result as the hiccups aren't a true reflection of the teams capabilities.
He's playing for the West Perth Colts who have a scratchie against Claremont this weekend. He's still playing in the half back line so you might see him line up against Zac Mainwaring in the forwards.
Should be a good battle between the two draft potentials.
Unless there are any bolters, I think there are only two potential prospects this year and neither of them are mids. One is a medium /small defender and the other a medium / small forward. Both are electric and speedy and have a bit of X-Factor about them.
I'm sure they've had runs through the...
The WAFL Colts begin their pre season matches from around the 10th of July and if all goes smoothly play finals in October. Expecting that the championships should be shortly after then.
I saw that the NAB league also recently got approval to start training again so Victoria arent too far behind.
With a shortened season and list sizes about to get smaller, I think it'll be very unlikely for any bottom agers to get game time at the championships this year.
Their best chances would be through their respective WAFL teams during the colts season which is about to start up.
Lawson Humphries and Ethan Regan are members of the academy and captains of their respective PSA sides. Pretty sure both aren't eligible until next year though...
I agree. Just means more money will be invested in virus protection strategies.
If anything, this will become a wake up call for the entire world to say that we weren't ready for this. As hard as it might be to acknowledge right now, I think this could have been a hell of a lot worse.
Some updates on the academy structure.
In 2020, Ash Sampi, Brad Smith and Fraser McInnes have all joined the coaching groups. There will be a bigger focus on developing and identifying regional talent.
Our Junior NGA Squad are playing Fremantle's NGA at the end of January. Details as follows:
Date: Friday 31st of January
Bounce Down: 4pm (All Nations) 5.30pm (Kickstart)
Location: Cockburn Arc
This is the first of the 3 games series between the academies.
Games watched on a telly or in a stadium, does the speed of the game and size of the players no favours. At ground level, you get a great appreciation of how heavy the hits are, how frantic the speed is and just how big the players really are! Real eye opener.
Adam Simpson gave a presentation at ECU the other day when he stated that players couldn't train any harder without impacting performance and that mental performance is quickly becoming the frontier for club development.
You can find his stats here.

He needs to find more consistency if he wants to get drafted but he played as a bottom ager in arguably West Perth’s best Colt side in 20 years. After going all the way to the preliminary final, West Perth were eventually...
Not sure if Ezekiel qualifies anymore for our NGA. The AFL revised the rulings so that athletes had to be in the Academy for at least 3 years to qualify.
Another talented player who qualifies for 2020 is Jamison Ugle from Swans.
This is the athlete in our NGA who we want to secure next year.

Ben Johnson is a great grab by the club. Every time I watched him this season, he was nothing less than exciting. He's courageous and takes the game on. He has a penetrating kick and loves to go forward.
Every time he ran with ball in hand, he looked so graceful and moves effortlessly.
