Canberrans should be okay, we are a fairly responsible lot, but I’m hoping we can sell some special cakes at PH. It might help with some of the decision making on The Hill.
1. Canberra. Almost perfect city only ruined by the drongo's the rest of the country vote in to pollute. Big enough that we have all the amenities that the larger cities have but small enough that we don't have their problems, such as over crowding, traffic jams etc. Close to the beach...
Queanbeyan has a population of around 35,000 (34,084 at census 2006), which makes it one the larger country towns in NSW. And eventhough it is close to Canberra (pop. 355,000) it still suffers from the same issues many country towns face, included an undermanned and underbudgeted Police Force...
I have absolutely no doubt that Australia is a better place to live than the UK, we have a better lifestyle, climate, sporting teams (most of the time) and I think the people are nicer. But ocassionaly I do feel a little jealous of the Brits and what they have, and as someone who is fascinated...
My wife and I both voted Royal. Not a fan of Sarkozy and his views. Oh well, I won't be living there anytime soon, although it might be an possibility if Howard/Costello get in again.
This is one of the more difficult questions to answer, and like the existence of God, I still don't know if I'm a believer or not. I should be against abortions as my wife has had 5 miscarriages since 1992, the last one in early 2002 about 5 months into the prenancy almost killing her. In fact...
I read somewhere (a few years ago i think) that about 27-28% of all Australians are of Asian background, and that is expected to jump to around 40% by 2025. Not only through immigration, but the birth rate amoungst the Asian population is higher than for the White population.
Funny I thought Meg Ryan was at fault for that interview. She was very defensive and stand-offish, wouldn't answer any of his questions. I WAS a Meg Ryan fan until I saw that interview. I now think she is an idiot.
Anyway, regarding Denton. He is the only interviewer we have who is able...
I live in the Canberra Electorate. The Member is Annette Ellis (Labor) who holds it by a reasonably healthy margin of about 20%. She is the Shadow Member for Ageing and Seniors and Disabilities.
The Canberra Electorate has been a Labor since inseption in 1974, with the exception of 1996 when...
Could you vote Liberal when Labor has a candidate of the calibre of Kate Lundy??? Not many can say that are seriously lusting after their local member, but Kate Lundy is seriously fine, and looking sexier everytime I see her. The Liberals could bring in Elle McPherson I still wouldn't vote...
I come from Canberra. We haven't voted Liberal in 50 years.
Personally I want Keating back, as I think he was the greatest Prime Minister we've ever had, but as I'm not going to get my wish, I'll have to settle for Beazley.
I think it is most important that we vote John Howard out at the next election, not because of his economic and social policies or because of his moral stance on what ever issue is front page news, but because what will more than likely happen in the middle of his next term... his retirement...
I find it difficult just talking to a smoker, let alone kissing one. It is the biggest turn-off there is.
I have a question for any Lawyers on the board regarding smoking. If someone blows cigarette smoke in my face, can I legally beat the s*** out of them, and claim it as self defence??
As a French born Australian, with a French Wife and French Daughter, I'm in total agreement with the French Goverment on this for all the reasons mentioned by Lestat, but also because I believe the Americans had no intention to free the Iragi's. This was purely revenge for Bush Snr's failures...
Sorry Sydneyfan, I didn't like any of them. A couple of years back I saw one which I quite liked:
The first half was a Green with a Yellow star in the middle representive the States and Territories.
The second half was Yellow with the Southern Cross in Green.
The National Anthem should...
Unfortunately I don't think Australia will ever get a Female Prime Minister, because of the sexist attitude of most Austalian Males. Even if she is the best person for the job, the Aussie male will not vote for her. Will the Australian Male vote for someone like Amanda Vanstone. I don't think...
I picked January 1, because it's the day all the states were official united as one, and although January 26 is an important date, I don't think we should celebrate the English landing on these shores and the massacre of innocent Aboriginals that followed. ANZAC should stay as it is.
I would...
Australia Day is approaching, but on what day should we be celebrating our National Day, January 1 the day of Federation, January 26 the day the First Fleet landed at Sydney or April 25 ANZAC Day.
I agree, Jenny Macklin would make an excellent PM. She is extremelly bright. Can be tough when needed, and is generally a very compasionate Polician, and doesn't carry any negative baggage. According to my sister, who works at Parliament House, some Labour people are saying that if Crean...
The Member for Canberra is Annette Ellis. She has been fairly quiet the last year or so, but generally she seems to be doing a fairly decent job. At least she isn't in the headlines like our previous member, Ros Kelly.
Beazley will be our new Prime Minister and Labour will have a majority of possibly 10 seats but more like 7 or 8.
Why??
Because when election day comes, most Australians will put aside the larger International Issues, and think about their own futures, and the their families future...
Anthony Mundine was serious when he said that, this is tongue (firmly) in cheek. And anyway I'm only insulting old people and politicians, not an entire race or religious group.
Yesterday, I started writing a letter to my local Senator, Kate Lundy, regarding a few issues that were of concern to me. I thought I would share my views with my Big Footy mates.
To the gorgeous and Sexy Kate Lundy,
I have serious concerns with Australian soldiers going to Afganistan...
