2004 - Drafted bottom age plays 15 games in his debut season as a 17 - 18 year old
2005 - Struggled
2006 and 2007 - Successive top10 best and fairest finishes at 19 and 20 year old
2008-2009 - Injured
2010 - broken collarbone, struggled after that
2011 - breakout year
2011 sees him play his...
In terms of leadership none of us can really comment on that, but they are both very highly regarded.
Both great players.
Hird wins it for me due to his flexibility.
Assuming they beat Sydney (which I don't think they will)....I think they will struggle to beat any of the other finals sides.
Apart from Milne, their forwards are out of form or fairly average. I would have thought that they would have come out breathing fire last night to secure that home...
Jarrad Waite has comprehensively beaten Riewoldt a few times...He's probably the only defender that can keep up with him for en entire game. The flipside is that they now know Waite's weakness, is being pushed deeper toward the goal square 1on1 to which Waite cannot beat him.
It's what makes...
Exactly, I'm going on Friday to see how we play structure wise, to see what the young guys show and to see if any fringe players are worth a go in the 22.
Something I didn't dispute....IMO the only striking difference between the two now, is how much impact they have when going forward. Swan beats him out 22 goals to 14 (something to note, both are still terrible in front of goal)
Goals contributed for 2008 Swan 31 (34 inc finals) and Murphy 33...
Pretty interesting you raise that....IMO Swan as at the end of 2008 was a better player. No doubt he has a greater impact when swinging forward, something Murphy is working on at the moment.
However it's interesting to note that Murphy led Carlton's midfield in 2007 (his 2nd afl season, after...
Over his career Fev has 'cracked' it on field a few times and has sooked. We've all seen it replayed 1,000 times after he does it. From this, he has the stigma that he never chases or tackles.
As your post highlights he does tackle well for a FF, Ratten highlighted it at least 4-5 times during...
1. Franklin
2. Fev
3. Pav
4. Riewoldt
5. S Johnson
6. Medhurst
7. J Brown
8. O'Keefe
9. Roughead
10. Bradshaw
Very unlucky: Robert Murphy, Didak, Lloyd
Did you also see him run 100 metres to congratulate Buddy when the siren sounded??
Whether you like him as a 'bloke' is irrelevent, he's quite easily in the top 5 forwards in the competition. If you can't see that your bias is blinding you
And we're meant to swallow the 'carlton have no back line KPP'
I think you're right. I guess with Ryder it depends on where he will end up playing
Sorry to sound skeptical but you realise Bower only played the remaining two games of the season?
He played imo much better before his injury than after. If you want to see the best of Bower watch the round 4(?) game vs Collingwood
That's fair enough, at this point in time. Though, most Carlton fans expect Murphy, Grigg, Gibbs, Yarran, Jamison, Walker, Bower, Kruezer, Warnock to be able to step up. (Hampson in a couple of years)
There's no doubt our talent drops off after the top 5-6 players more sharply than other clubs...
Ok, we won by 5 goals. I know by Fev not playing would have altered the outcome but, you take away his score on the day and we still would have won.
You say without these two our ability to compete would drop dramatically, well here's the proof we would still be competitive
Waite's problem is that for his age, he is still plying his craft in the backline. As mentioned above he is terrific at playing a loose man or even when his opponent plays further up the ground like Richo and Riewoldt.
However, left one on one at CHB he can be susceptible to be outmuscled, JB...
Carlton only beat Collingwood and the Bulldogs this year yet we are getting pumped up?
In 2006 Hawthorn won 9 games, the only side they beat from the top 8 was Fremantle (once). IMO Essendon will be right up there for a mix in the finals, but are yet still a year off it.
I'll admit they aren't A grade defenders, but to admit we are short on tall defenders is ludicrous. Waite, Jamison and Bower have showed enough signs that they will be fantastic 200+game players. Austin looks like a good type also.
Whether Setanta or Thornton go to the next level really wont...
