Taking on the Doggies at TIO. Two away games. Hope it doesn't take too much of a toll.

Changes for me would be...

OUT: Coad, Brown, Toy, Dixon(inj)

IN: Thompson, Stanley, Hall, Thompson

Dixon to go only if he has cheek damage.

Toy has got to go.

Brown looks out of sorts and Coad looked a bit overwhelmed. I think Rory is ready to take his place from what I saw in the 2s. Stanley is certainly a level above, and Hall will be good for us floating up forward.

At the start of the season I had this penned as a possible win. Bulldogs at TIO is a danger game for them I would think. And given our loss to GWS, the boys SHOULD be breathing fire. Can only hope they are.

Dont think they have elevated Coad to just play the one game , have to give him a bit of time , maybe 2-3 games imo , also not sure if Lynch will get weeks , grey area. my guess will be

In - Stanley , Hall , Shaw , Hickey
Out - Swallow (inj) , Dixon (inj) , Toy , Brown.

I haven't seen all their games but the Bulldogs looked woeful at the start of the season but last week against Collingwood they were vastly improved. Much harder at the ball and more polished. Which Bulldogs will turn up to play?

We need to apply a hard and fast tag on Dalhaus as he is the key to their energy and drive.

Jones is quick too with a great set of hands but his kicking is highly suspect. But one day you get the feeling he is going to get his act together and get a bag of goals - lets hope its not against us.

The other day, Supernova Clown (i think) mentioned that we may have seen the last of Fraser, but depending on what the story is with Dicko's face, Fraser might get another call up.

I am prepared to cut Coad some slack - but I would still like to see Thommo in again.

Magin must come in for contention too ...

Coad stays, he wasn't too bad defensively I thought? Theres no substitute for experience, and his big toe is harder than McKenzie for starters. Really aggrevated with McKenzie at the moment, he seems to be just a 1 way runner/downhill skier. I said it a few months ago, I'm worried about him mentally and I think the hype got to his head and ego last year.

OUT: McKenzie
IN: Stanley

Thats all from me, Dicko should be right to play. He is a tough nut, LRT from Sydney played with a similar injury with modified headgear?

I thought he was supposed to be one of the star performers in Arizona.

Looking at some of his efforts there appears to be a lack of intensity - you have to wonder if (a) he is unfit (b) he is fit but has poor stamina (c) he is carrying an injury (d) its mental as you said.

Agreed SK thought Coad played well defensively. His disposal was off, but had the right ideas and defended solidly.

I agree with parts about McKenzie, but I don't think it's such a systemic problem like you. I don't think it's his ego or something like that. The fact he doesn't blaze away every kick, instead tries to pick options with accuracy not just sheer power should be indicative that it's not an ego problem. I think it's more along the lines of a poor preseason (picked up an injury for a while right?) followed by some second year blues. But with that said some of his 'chases' have been pathetic. No probs if he spends time in the seconds.

McKenzie is one of our fastest players if he bloody tries!! He represented the club in the grand final sprint a couple years ago, and we all remember the pace he showed in that goal running from half back through the square.

It's his defensive run and pressure that shits me, which is mental to me. Because I've seen the ability before but it's not interesting enough for him unless he is getting a kick in free space.

Maybe over reacting, but plenty of others do on bigfooty :D

I also dont want to see Brennan in the defensive half, he is a liability there. He is a decent player, but needs to be forward of the centre! Even Leigh Matthews who coached him for however many years said the same thing, because of his turnovers. He can win a match by himself, but needs to be on the ball, wing, half forward, or fullforward line.

I'm so sick of seeing him way too deep in defence in the back pocket, and almost the last line of defence sometimes. IT'S NOT HIS POSITION OR PLAYING TO HIS STRENGTHS. This is my only 1 gripe with McKenna coaching for the last 18 months.

Swap Brennan with Lynch so its a big for a big, I would be far more comfurtable with that.

On our whiteboard for my footy game yesterday, we had on the board.

Harder at the man
Harder at the ball
Harder at the contest
Harder mentally

/end rant :)

Footscray have just done a fair job on the Kangas today, will be a tough game. I just want the Suns to come out angry and with intensity, as there was none present yesterday.

Yeah, Bulldogs looked really hungry. They could be really on when we're up against them at TIO.

Just watched bits of the game again against GWS, agree with others and will take back what I said about Coad. Just some clutch moments that appear to stick with me more than anything. Did well overall. Just offensively needs some work, but as said, the experience would be good to have.

Perhaps Thompson will come in for Dixon if he's injured? That can also free up Brennan to head forward. Rory was listed in our best in the 2s. Would be surprised if he didn't play this week. He and Stanley are must ins IMO.

I really hope you guys go out there at TIO and grab the win..
Bulldogs are good when they are on song, but if the Suns are as physical and uncompromising as they were against Freo and Essendon should win easily..

Dixon a confirmed out. Will be gone for 3-6 weeks after surgery on his cheekbone. :( We're losing a starting player every week at this rate.

Swallow also in doubt with the knee/shin injury he got against GWS. GCFC appear to think that it's certainly not a recurrence of his ankle from last week. However, wouldn't be surprised to see him rested at all. Three injuries in as many weeks. :( No decision will be made until he trains midweek though. Bring him back fit and firing against Port.

David Swallow's selection also came under scrutiny after he was subbed off in the third quarter but football manager Marcus Ashcroft revealed the midfielder had copped a heavy knock to his knee and shin, and not suffered a recurrence of the ankle injury he sustained against Fremantle.

Swallow has been hurt in each of the past three games and is almost certain to be rested for the round 8 fixture against Western Bulldogs in Cairns on Saturday.

Ashcroft said there would be no decision made until he had attempted to train midweek but no risks would taken.

"It's a tough one, we probably need to have a look at him on Tuesday or Wednesday. I think we probably need to be a bit more conservative with him," Ashcroft said yesterday.

Hamo doesn't know TIO is in Darwin. Do'h for him. ;)

I don't know what to think or say really....I'm kind of leaning towards our boys 'believing the hype' too much....one or two good-ish games (without winning I might add) does not give the lads (some of them at least) the comfort of thinking 'right...it's all falling into place now...it'll just happen!". This for me, was the glaring element of the GWS game...an attitude thing...a between the ears thing. Why is it that 'we' seem to be happy with honorable loses? 2nd year team or not, losses have to sting, no matter how close (and surely, the Freo game STUNG!!), but for some reason we're ok with it?? For a team with only 22 more games experience than our opposition, the HUNGER, THE WANT, THE INTENSITY was off from the get go on Saturday....and then it takes a bake to respond?? Why?? It's got to be a mental thing! Sheeds and Choco certainly have their mob playing with utter INTENT and PURPOSE and HEART! I don't really understand why we don't have it consistently....we can be off skill wise & decision making...but FFS, it's the consistent effort that is needed. Don't wait for it to happen...Make it happen!!

Then there is the curse of the white strip.....

GWS have a group of guys who represent exactly where AFL is at the moment.A group of ball chasing turnover merchants
We have some super outside mids, but fewe need players who will put their head over the ball on a regular basis to contest a 50:50
I now know why Seb Tape is highly regarded now..because he will do that..as will Swallow Prestia and Hunt
I don't expect Bennell Matera or Ablett to do it..I don't want thenm on the bottom of packs
Of the senior players Brennan does..he is fearless..Brown can't get near it of course
Will McKenzie, Shaw, Toy, Caddy etc do it?They are just cruising at the moment and wouldn't get away with it at GWS
They will need to, because they will find themselves slipping out the backdoor otherwise.
They call it Club Culture and I'm frightened we are breeding Show Ponies rather than War Horses

For some reason I have a good feeling about this week. I was nervous all week last week, but I really think the boys will respond.

Could even grab the win. I think I read somewhere that their back line is a little thin? They have to travel further than us, after all! :thumbsu:

FB: Thompson, Warnock, Tape
HB: Iles, Coad, Wilkinson
C: Prestia, Hunt, Horse
HF: Stanley, Lynch, Bennell
FF: Brown, Day, Russell

Fol: Smith, Caddy, Ablett

Int: Brennan, Rischitelli, Mckenzie

Sub: Shaw

Brown won't get dropped. He should but he won't.

Make it happen! :D Come home with a win boys!

The only out that IMO should happen is Brown. He's a dead set spud and a liability to boot with his brain explosions and stupid frees against. Stanley should take his place.

Bring in Thompson for Dixon and Shaw for Swallow. Swallow really looks like he needs a week or two off to get his niggles right.

What NEEDS to happen is that the players need to play HARD, MEAN, DIRTY football. Win the contests, win the hard ball, win the clearances. Then they need to play DISCIPLINED, STRUCTURED footy and run out all four quarters. Bringing a bit of INTENSITY to the game wouldn't go astray either.

It's pretty simple really. Just play hard disciplined footy and the results should/will follow.

Brown can go..yes! However there is one other performance that surely cannot go unnoticed. This was when we made the WORST sub activation of the year. Off Swallow, On Toy. Net Result = 1 handball (for an entire half of footy). Josh Toy - brilliant junior, all gone sour here it seems....does he want it or does he want out??

Toy hasn't been able to do a thing right this year. Hopefully it is just a matter of him getting used to the higher intensity of senior footy, but if we were picking our best side at the moment, he wouldn't be in it. Shaw was doing better & deserves another chance.

Swallow definitely looks like he needs a rest. I reckon he should have been rested after the Freo game. Keeping him in the side & bringing in an underdone Ablett & Rischitelli was setting the team up for at least one of them to break down or not be able to run out the game. I'd replace him with Danny Stanley.

Brown needs to kick goals to be in our team. On Saturday, he had a few chances, but didn't convert. I'd bring Aaron Hall in to replace Brown, but also expect Stanley to help out up forward.

Losing Dixon is a shame. He's been good in recent weeks & has helped cover for Smith, who doesn't look like the same player he was in 2011. I guess Thompson will have to replace him. I'm not convinced Hickey is good enough.

McKenzie doesn't look like he's fully fit, after the interrupted pre-season. I don't think it is an ego problem. He's doing enough to keep his spot.

Toy & McKenzie back to the reserves to send them a message.

Brown won't get dropped. With Dixon out, I'd think Fraser will come back in.

I'm gonna go with:

IN: Stanley, Shaw, Fraser, Weller
OUT: Dixon, McKenzie, Toy, Swallow

Don't think Rory will come in this week. Warnock + Coad already, against a KPF-less forward line with the Dogs, can't see it happening.

Swallow a confirmed out with his knee injury. On goldcoastfc.com.au.

Gold Coast SUNS midfielder David Swallow will miss Saturday night’s match against the Western Bulldogs in Darwin.

GC SUNS, General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft this afternoon confirmed the news to goldcoastfc.com.au.

“David was forced from the field with a knee injury during the third term on Saturday.”

“While we are yet to determine the full extent of the injury, we can confirm that David will be unavailable for selection this weekend.”

Swallow’s knee injury comes on the back of a hip and ankle injuries that the former Number 1 Draft pick suffered during the GC SUNS Round 4 match against the Brisbane Lions and Round 6 game against the Dockers respectively.

Ashcroft said the GC SUNS would conduct further tests on Swallow to determine the degree of the injury.

Hope it's nothing too serious and only misses a short amount of time. Really need him against Port at home in round 9.

You guys are really having a tough run with injury, hey??

I'd say that you'd almost have to bring Hall and possibly Frasier in to the side, and if your coaching staff can't see Brown is a liability, well I suddenly don't like your chances of winning many more games..
