Biased answer would be picking Talia, though I'm more then happy with Lucas who barring injury should cement his spot for the long haul this season.
Going by position and our needs Watson is a better get then Talia (who we have Bower to play his role as the third tall) and Lucas comparable to Smith, except he should have more development left in him.

Yeah Atley was nearly available. I still think Hughes would have picked Watson at 18. I reckon he passed up a good one in Pitt to pick Watson anyway.

And at 34 he could have gone Hallihan or Parker who are both extracters and would have suited us as midfielders.

And at 42 he could have got Fasolo but didn't.

No....i think Hughes was determined to draft KPP, and as it turned out we got 3 extremely good value picks. How they turn out? we shall find out.

As Marc Schmurf points out above, that is a good 2 year result.
I feel better about picking these three talls than the decision to draft Edwards and pass on Swallow like a few clubs. Two of these KPP were AA, whilst the other was listed in the AFL's prospectus in 2009 and looked at by GC to be listed as a 17 year old. And missed most of the year and the U18 championships due to injury. We didn't get highlights back in 2005 so we could be Youtube recruiters, yet I believe Edwards didn't even play in the Under 18 championships that year. Swallow on the other hand captained WA, graduated from the AIS, was AA (U15s and U18s) and played senior footy in the WAFL, yet slid to pick 43 in that draft.

Amazing that he slid that far.

These talls are more solid and talented prospects than Edwards.

Where did the Talia hype actually come from?

And when did it start?

After watching Talia's highlights again, he can kick, but looks to be a rebounding defender more than a power defender who can spoil and control the air. Lucas isn't a great kick like Gibbs, but would go close to rivalling Gibbs for poise, agiility, decision making and overhead marking.

Yet Lucas is fast and has a huge motor.

Talia might develop like Davis did this year, yet Yarran and Lucas were the right choices for Carlton.

If they're not hard to split, overlooking your best available player and drafting for need that early is career suicide.
