If you like the that much, just be honest. Hopefully they'll understand it's the best move for you and if not then heck em coz you won't be working there much longer anyway. I'd still try to leave on good terms because you might like a reference
 
Just tell them you love thier workplace and shit but the job itself is just not for you. You have been offered a job at a job you really want and do enjoy and you're gonna take it.

If you're in your 3 month probation period can't employment be terminated at a week's notice by either party?

I'd just say 'I've accepted another position. I know I only have to provide a week's notice but I'm happy to work until date x if that helps out'. If it's a good career move for you and your boss is a good bloke he'll be fine with it.
 
As catfish said, probation is a two way street - its for the employer to see if you can do the job but also for you to see if you like it. You got a better job offer that is more in line with what you want to do so be up front with your employer, explain the situation the same as you have here and make sure you give them sufficient notice to find a replacement. Do that and you've done all you can to do the right thing, how your boss reacts to that is up to them and out of your control but if they react badly that says more about them than it does you
 
Just be honest. Tell them you have been offered an opportunity that you cant pass up. Give them some notice, thank them for giving you a job and move on.
 
Yeah, be honest. Pretty much just tell them what you told us, if that still pisses them off then you had no hope of getting out on good terms anyway. Better to get out early than waste more of their time training you, etc, for you to just leave after a year or whatever.
 
Sort of a similar predicament at the moment. My 6 month probationary period finished 3 days ago at my job and I have told them yesterday I want out. In the contract it says I can give 1 weeks notice while I'm on probation. I've said I want to give 1 week notice, also telling them that I have not been notified that I've passed my probationary period.

Reckon they can turn around and say I need to give them 4 weeks?

You and you alone live with your decisions, don't ever let someone else's feelings get in the way of doing the right thing by your hopes and dreams.

Tell your boss the truth, what your doing and why you're doing it. Be firm polite, respectful and appreciative for what they've done for you. Then don't look back. If any of them respect you for who you are and not just because you're a colleague, you will have earned it for life.

You can't lose being genuine, having good character.
 
Its not that big of a deal is it?
People leave companies all the time just say you have been offered another job in an industry you want to get into and you will do the 2 weeks if necessary
 
Just be sincere, explain what happened and that you are leaving as it is a much better fit for you with more opportnity and apologise for any inconvenience.

Not that you were planning to but never burn bridges, especially if you are staying in a similar industry, as you never know who is going to be your next boss.

Depends what your contract says. If it gives the probationary period as exactly 6 months, or a date on it, then that's the end of your probation & they can screw you the 4 weeks. If it says your success during the probation period is subject to a meeting or something, then you can give the 1 week cos your probation's not over yet.

'Wasting their time' is just your conscience talking. If you've been doing good work for them then you haven't wasted their time.
 
Leave. You'll never see them again and laugh at yourself one day for getting emotionally involved.

One thing you will learn growing up mate is that to employers youre just a resource. A number. You can be loyal till the cows come home, but at the end of the day the second they think you're not required anymore they wont hesitate to f*** you right up the arse without a second thought.

Too many times Ive seen people getting a tap on their shoulder and asked to leave on the spot, escorted by security, out the door. These people have had babies on the way, building houses, young families, dying partners. They dont give a f**k. Hell, I have even seen a lady whose best friend in the workplace was murdered and she got made redundant a few days later.
 
I'm glad you left. A lot of bosses don't give a stuff about their employees. They know what the market is like out there and everyone is expendable.
