Id be much more happy to play him back if gumbleton could consistently get on the park.
If Hurley was to play back, we'd need someone to straighten us up and give us a target like Hurley does.
...or until JD is ready to play fulltime seniors alongside Ryder and Crameri, hence at least a couple of years.

If Hurley back stood a Hurley forward, Hurley back would easily come away with the honours.

We have Adelaide in 2 weeks, they have Walker, I believe we would be much better off with Hurley on Walker, and playing Gumby / Daniher, Ryder, Crameri forward.

After Carlisle's job on Riewoldt I'd be comfortable with him having a go at Tex. Their height/weight numbers aren't much different... not sure who's quicker though. More concerned about Dangerfield.

Playing really boys good work! Sorry for the intrusion guys, watching the game with a few bomber mates and having a debate.. You guys have any idea how much Hurley is on per year? There saying 500k I'm more like 6-700k.. I thought this would be the best thread to ask? Cheers

"I don't think Hurley can play back, he attacks the contest too hard"

Thanks Leigh, really hit that between the eyes..

FWIW, really struggled tonight and have been on the fence about where he plays. He needs to end up as a backmen. Runs under the ball far to often, goes for marks with his chest, not hands outstretched (post wrist injury he has really, really struggled with that) and his goal kicking actually leaves a lot to be desired (along with Crameri also!).

Hurls didnt kick a goal tonight but I think he went a long way to shutting up opinions I expressed a few weeks back. His hard work was very important. Loved his run up the flanks and wings and he worked hard for front spot. His crashing of packs was great.

I still hope he can clean up his hands and clunk a few more. All in all a good game.

He works hard
He's very competitive
He's very talented
But he is not a smart footballer

It's such a rare occasion to see him leading without his opponent breathing down his neck. I reckon four in every five marking attempts are contests. He just doesn't know how to break a shrug and his set kicking lacks follow through.

Sure it's only the first game, but he's not a first gamer and I will be friggin pissed if he hasn't learned how to break a shrug and make a proper lead by the end of the season.

But he is hard and it and makes them earn it, which is really great.
Which is exactly why (I think) the bloke in the no. 22 is still playing down back and the guy in the no. 18 is playing up front.

EFC's obsession with having a 'monster' in the front half.
