Matthew Biggs, great player for Fitzroy was said to be leading their best and fairest by an absolute country mile, (that was said by the coach himself). Biggsy is a natural gun footballer who usually plays in the ruck for fitzroy but can also play in a number of positions. He played Colts footy at Bulleen Temp last year and was expected to really dominate, but never really set the world on fire mainly because his head was not in the game on many occasions, but on the other hand when it was he was extremely hard to stop. The fitzroy coach said he would only take him on this year (played juniors at fitzroy up untill colts) if he was to change his ways and stop causing trouble during games, and that is what he did and the coach was very happy to see him concentrating his energy to winning the footy and not playing the man. Unfortunately it looks as if now that it is not easy to change a kids ways and end the end Fitzroy will not have thier best player playing in thier finals series which is very unfortunate, no doubt he will be a massive loss, which they will struggle to cover.

I did not see the incident that he was suspended for so if anyone out there can tell me if it was him being stupid and undiciplined or if he was provoked. Thanks

BT have, without doubt, been performing exceptionally of late! I have no idea who will win, based on the fact that finals are pretty different from what I hear (never played in one myself); one good or bad game from any team can open it right up it seems - but ill play devils advocate and say they'll go out first round.
This week's matches, however, will be a fairly good indicator it seems:
If westbourne test BT, and xavs v Reds is a close one also, looks like the finals series could be a cracker! [lets hope so]

Id say its out of BT, Reds and aquinas, probably aquinas would be my tip. After playing Xavs last wknd and reds the week before ill tip reds to beat xavier comortably this wknd.

Xavs are a funny side, one week they can test the big boys of the comp then next week they lose to bottom sides, this is probably due to players going up and down between their first and second side. Fitzroy are a very good side but with the loss of Biggs will become weaker but soon to be minor premiers they must be respected. Bulleen are definiotely the smokey of the comp, they are hitting form at the rite end of the year and if Vogils fires Bulleen usually win, i know one player doesnt win premierships(and this might cost Bulleen) but if he fires its gonna be tough for opposition!!

Reading through there seems to be alot of chat about this Voglis bloke, is he the best player in the comp? who r the others who r dominating each week and may win the b&f for the league?

Voglis: Big forward who's 2nd in the goal kicking for the league. Any team would love him up forward, but general comments aside, best in the league may be a bit of a stretch... after all, how many forwards have won brownlows? That doesn't mean they aren't the most important however: from this things said in this thread fair to say he holds any keys to BT's finals, though they have a ripper forwardline aside from him anyway from what I've seen?

As for best in the league, VAFA website has these listed as most times in best (in brackets) for each club:

Fitzroy: Biggs (11), Olarenshaw (10)
Aquinas: Cross & Maaskant (8)
Xavs: 5 players all on (5)
BT: Azer (10), Coulston (9) - Voglis on (8)
Westys: Williamson (12), Sidwell & Lockwood (11)
Therry: Brennan (10)
Kew: Wang & Wall & Berry (11), Williams (10)
Rupo: Quinn (8), Murphy & Simpson (6)
NOBS: Adams (11), Gastin (9)

Anyone care to throw in 2 cents on any of these names? Biggs, like in the brownlow, no longer eligible?

Where does Biggs play anyway?? Going by how many goals he's kicked is he a forward flanker?? Or does he play in the guts and run forward or their ruckman that also rests down forward?? Could be a utility i spose just can play anywhere. If Vogils got fit and lost a bit of his "party" weight he could be a freak show, just probably lacks a bit of fitness that could see him play on the ball and dominate games and also kick match winning goals (which he does anyway). Maaskant from Aquinas must be alright considering he made the Under 19s side that travelled all the way up to Queensland to play, especially seing i think he might of bee nthe only 19s Red player to get invited (could be wrong though).

Still think Fitzroy are the team to beat and just because theyve lost one player it would be an insult to the other players that have go tthem to a minor premiership to say theyre gone!

Sounds like the guy can play, but why isnt he leading the goal kicking then? Tom Lee from Xavs is 6 ahead of him, including an 11 against BT it says on the VAFA website, so surely he must be alright? anyone played on or against him? Alot of talk also about reds and BT, but surely Aquinas have to be the fav after beating both of them? any thoughts?

Voglis has had a few problems with his legs the entire year and has been well below in fitness and in terms of physical condition for the majority of the year. Having said that all reports are that he has been getting increasingly better with 9 goals against TP and with last week off due to the bye has rested up well and wants to make a big impact on finals again. An important factor is that he has finals experience as he played in BT's Seniors finals series and premiership win back in 2004.

As for the BT v Xavs game were Lee kicked 11 which was a super effort and he was unstoppable for the entire day, Voglis did not play that day and if you have ever seen Xavs home ground which would be lucky to be 120 metres long, i believe that those two would of had a shootout that day. Differences between Voglis and Lee also are that Lee plays as an out and out full foward, where Voglis plays more of a half foward flanker and is used in the middle a bit.

Another thing: Voglis has no chance whatsoever of winning the B&F for the league, as he is one of the most consistent umpire sledges in under 19 footy. The facts stand that he has dominated over the last two years of under 19 footy and won 2 BT best and fairests, but yet has not polled well at all in the league B&F. Watching him play it is amazing how much time and effort he puts into letting the umpires know how bad they are week in week out.

I'd say adams wins more of the ball than just about anyone in the comp, he is a powerful runner and goes all match. Although what he does with the ball isnt exceptional, although few players are silky skilled in this division so that may be a bit harsh (for those of you who have played NOBS he is the left footed red head in the centre)
Gastin is smaller and less influential, but a good player never the less.

I think the best foward in the comp was the aquinas CHF from the start of the year, although having a look on the web i think he's in the seniors now. Admittedly i don't know who Volgis is.

Tom lee would easily be the strongest bloke going around in the reds comp he would go close to the bnf for the league.

I find it hard to believe that fitzroy will struggle with out one player no matter how good you all say he is. Have they got any 19's to come back from the seniors/vfl? They also wouldn't mind not being favourites anymore either!

Aquinas seem to be the team to beat come finals although i also rate old Xavs very highly despite a recent form slump. They are a physical side which will definately help them in finals action.

As for BT i am yet to be convinced that they will beat Xavs. Having only one win away from home won't help in finals. Their draw to therry after being up by 8-9 goals at three quarter time may indicate that they haven't played 4 quarters of footy yet. Old Xavs are favourites going into the semi against BT, Lee will be hard to stop along with their on-ball brigade! Prove me wrong boys from BT, but i think the Xavs have might have you covered.
