heard tht bernards will be fielding a second team this yr and obviously will be in red. anyone think tht they will end up being competitive.

Throw a few names of those who you think will play in the bernards reds side... bernards are generally strong where ever they are but it will be interesting to see what kind of depth they have

Would love to see bernies field another team in red or blue division! Generally, and generalities seem fairly-well abided by in this league, bernies consider themselves VERY hard at the footy.
I would imagine their depth would be similar to that of xavs, so perhaps same standard of xavs reds from last year? As an early guess?

Both had their moments throughout the season.
Xavs made finals and were thoroughly out-classed by a very strong B.T. team
Rupo had a leaner season but had a few injuries to worry about which stifled them a little.

It seems unlikely, on past results, that a 'seconds' team is good enough to take out a flag in red... But nevertheless, everyone gets a kick, provides good competition and gives it their all - that's what the boys are out there for in the end!

De la also had a seconds team in blue divison, who finished similarly to OX and rupo.

Hmmm, I was under the impression Rupo were bottom 3 last year in Red...

Bit different to Xavs. Xavs were pretty fortunate last year in that the Class of 2004 (whom were 2nd year out) were very young, thus had a lot of extra numbers.

Basically, it's always going to be tough for the 2nd team, even if you have great depth you won't have the players to match or cover the other team's best players. You're starting at the 23rd best player on your list, and then when injuries hit, your best player could be your 30th best at the club. And you're playing against other clubs whom have the cream of their crop to choose.

mate last years xavs and rupo teams are clearly not in the same bracket. xavs had a solid year and were in the 4 for most of the season, finishin an eventual 4th. were decimated by injuries in the 1s in round 18 of the season but were beaten by the eventual premier, BT. Rupo struggled all year and finished at the bottom of the ladder. Xavs will again be strong and ill be surprised to see rupo as give them any trouble when the 2 meet. Bernards vs Xavs should be a rippa game, with 2 very powerful clubs with great depth.

xavs fell in a big hole in the second half of the season, and just kicked away against rupo in the last quarter of the second game for the year. got smashed by BT in the final, but managed to regain some dignity with a good last quarter.
rupo also had a few very close misses which would have helped them finish further up the ladder.

xavs got by with a good first half of the season when they had blokes who ended up starring for their 1's playing for them, but lacked depth thereafter. Looking at the resulting end-of-season teams, I would say that if rupo and xavs were to play, it would be much closer than would be expected from people who didnt play for them... I did.

NOT that it matters it's a new season, new faces.

Fixtures are up for RED!

Four 2nds teams in the comp: Xav's, De La, Bernards, Rupo

St. leo's back after a year in three plus as already mentioned Bernards and De la the other inclusions.

Benchmark would have to be Fitzroy and i guess St. Leo's should be considered as a darkhorse just on the basis of their div3 experience

any fitzroy men out there? if so are your best players from last year strong mid-fielders Donato, olarenshaw and ruckman Biggs still eligable for unders this year?

i also hear that Nobs have been hitting the gym hard this pre season due to a poor ground surface hence they will have the bigger boys of the competition, especially possible captain T.Joss who has put on a huge amount of bulk and will be hard to stop.

BT had Westbournes measure, were pretty laid back in their first praccy.
Westbourne supposedly have good numbers but have probably lost their good players. Both teams prob had a couple beyond the age limit having a run. Wouldn't take too much from the game.

heard therry got pumped by 10 goals mikehunt in a praccy?? confirmation?

Therry went down to Sunbury on Saturday and played Rupertswood's 1sts side (section 1), Rupo unconvincingly won the game by 35pts. and will probably struggle in Div1 with alot of their best players from last year going straight to the ones.

Therry however played well with what they had missing over 10 players to unavailability (as happens in praccies), and took it up to rupo only getting run over in the last due to lack of fitness.

will be interesting to see how the other 2nds sides go compared to last years. i think people underestimate how tough it can be as a 2's side...makes you appreaciate how good the xavs were last year when they beat everyone in the comp bar fitzroy.

How did De La go last year in Blue?

Having 4 2nds teams in the division will make it a bit easier come finals time for any side that isn't one of these 4.
