I always rate 1979 as one of the best in music.

Some brilliant albums came out in 79 as well as plenty of quality songs.

So for mine its some of the best songs from some of the best artists around.

It was a signifigant year as it was very much a year where there was a changing of musical style all around the world.

Some excellent songs on this list. '79 would have to be one of the best years. '81 was good too.

Back to topic, 1982 had some fairly average music. Duran Duran were at the height of their powers though. Hungry Like the Wolf and Rio are great songs.

'86 to '89 was an amazing era for Rock and Metal. Some of the albums released in this time were:

If you think The Joshua Tree is U2's only decent album then you obviously have no clue. It is the most commercial album apart from the last 2 released, but Boy, War, The Unforgettable Fire and Achtung Baby are all better IMO.

No not joking. Not a fan of much at all out of '87.
'79 on the other hand has a stack of great songs.

1977 to 1986 is perhaps my favourite era of all, and I could name at least 50 songs from each year that I absolutely love. As for 1982, my favourite song from that year wasn't even on original list. As embarrassing as it sounds, I love Kim Wilde's CAMBODIA, it's sounds so different to anything else she did, and to a lot of the synthesiser pop being produced at the time.

I could have written 3 pages of songs from that year

Tried to keep it to songs/artists everyone would have heard of.

and there seems to be alot of people on here that struggle with anything before 1990.

82 was a great year for daggy songs such as Charlene, and Key Largo, what memories, can't quite believe it was 25 years ago.

BTW, yes, Johnny Warman did sing Screaming Jets.
