Simple prediction game, when will we win our next premiership?

I say 2019.:)

I think we are 2-3 years off contending still, and usually you don't win a flag in the first year you are a contender anyway.

I'd take one flag every 10 years instead of 20.

Truth is >2020 if the clear cut favorite. Tough tough things to win. would be more confident if we finished off the year and played finals. If not we still have a long way to go and are behind a few other young up and comers like the Dogs and GWS

Don’t think we are Miles Behind the Dogs but we don’t have the Depth of Young Talent the Suns and GWS does. Thanks to the AFL for that

I went with 2019 simply because you need to be up for a while. You don't have teams making the 8 after not being in the 8 and winning the premiership.

It will take 2-3 years of finals experience for these boys. Yes we might make a prelim in 2017/2018 but that is part of the path to winning a premiership.

2015- No finals
2016- Finals 6-7th
2017- Top 5
2018- Top 4
2019- Premiership

Wouldn't be shocked if we won the flag in 2018 but 2019 is the year I am expecting Collingwood to be feared by everyone again.

We almost did that in 2002;) Though that is more the Exception then the Rule

2017. Things happen & change very quickly in footy. Can see us coming close to top 4 next year, that might sound optimistic but that's just how I feel. 2017-18 we'll have a good hard look at a flag

This is a list of the last few premiers and how they went in the preceding years. I'll update it with more later. As you said recent history shows you need to thereabouts for a few years before winning one:

2010 - 7th
2009 - 9th

2011 - 6th
2010 - 5th
2009 - 12th
2008 - 6th

2011 Geelong
2010 - 3rd
2009 - Premiers
2008 - Runners up
2007 - Premiers

2010 Collingwood
2009 - 4th
2008 - 6th
2007 - 4th
2006 - 7th

2009 Geelong
2008 - Runners up
2007 - Premiers
2006 - 10th
2005 - 6th

2008 Hawthorn
2007 - 5th
2006 - 11th
2004 - 14th

Agree GC. I also think the jury is still oout on a lot more of ur youngsters than those at GWS ,WB and GCS

Well those sides are further down there Re-Build then we are

I went with 2018 because thats where we'll have a lot of guys on our list in that +100 games spot whilst still retaining the requisite veteran experience of a Pendles/Cloke on the list to play as the leadership figures. However, free agency makes the "Window" a more fluid concept than ever before and with the expansion of trade rules to include future picks, teams can now acquire talent at an incredibly rapid rate. In seasons gone by, the idea of us landing Treloar and Dangerfield in the same trade period were fanciful.. whereas these days we could bring in both without any real difficulty (assuming they both wanted to come, salary cap etc).

So whilst I expect it to be a few years away, I think with the list that we have and the development taking place we could see a premiership a little earlier than we might expect.

Next year.... Unlikely
2017 top 4
2018 serious chance
2019 too far away to even think about

Premierships are so hard to win it is impossible to predict

So much depends on luck with injuries and form to the right players. I look at this year and think that if we could have added Reid, Scharenberg, Freeman, Sinclair with some better form from a few others and we really could have been pushing up there.

But look, if ALL goes well, I don't see why we can't be having a real crack between 2017-2019. Maybe even a Hawthorn 2008 style surprise in 2016? Who the hell knows.

Why in two year will we be a serious chance compared to next year? With Cloke and Swan and Pendlebury probably dropping off like Swan has this season.
