How lucky were we to witness it?

Mind you I also saw Greening, and Bobby Rose before that.
Don't anyone get me wrong. The modern player is a wonderful example of our club and the game, but there may never be better than Rose, Greening and Daics. (Bucks was great as was Rowdy and Pants but he and Swanny and Pendles wouldn't cut it with those 3)

And the statue would have its tongue hanging out....like Daics did when he was concentrating.

They could position the statue so that his tongue points towards the Ponsford end goals.

Daicos v Didak = Daicos

Monkhurst v Jolly = Monky

Shaw v Maxwell = Shaw

Gavin Brown v Chris Dawes = Rowdy

Ned Kelly v Nathan Brown... Ned Kelly

Kerro v Toovey... Kerro

Denis Banks v Harry Obrien = Debatable... but I take Banksy.

Graeme Wright v Dale Thomas = Please...

Darren Millane v Ben Johnson = Sorry Jono... but you voted for Millane too...

McGuane v Pendlebury = Pendlebury

Scott Russell v Dane Swan = Swan

Michael Christian v Travis Cloke = Cloke

Gavin Crosisca v Ben Reid = Crosisca

Tony Francis v Jarryd Blair = Franga

Jamie Turner v Luke Ball = Ball

Doug Barwick v Wellingham = Barwick every day of the week.

Mick Gayfer v Heath Shaw = Heath Shaw

Shane Morwood v Goldack = Morph

Michael Starcevich v MaCaffer = MaCaffer

James Manson v Leigh Brown = draw

That's 20 players as I chose to compare them...

1990 Players = 13
2010 Players = 6

Draw = 1

And Beams and Sidebottom get automatic inclusions with the extended bench!

Barwick starts as the Sub.

Daicos was the most exciting Collingwood player that I ever saw, no one comes close.
Only because of the time but Peter McKenna was like a pop star.. when he went near the ball girls screamed like it was the Beatles, I mean really shrieking like at a concert.. he was the first footballer to wear his hair long and even put out a couple of pop songs.. it was hysteria and there's been nothing like it since, not even the white booted wonder, the fabulous one could generate that kind of excitement

I am very sad I never saw Daicos Live

Reid is Stiff as he is a very good player. AA CHB

Very stiff indeed.

Crosisca came third in the Copeland in 1989 and kicked 2 goals in the Granny... Played state of Origin for 3 states. 200 games

I'd say by the end of Reid's career he will probably get the nod... but at this stage Crosisca has deserved it IMO.

Yes I'd say Reid might have the edge there (Crossy was only a HBF who lethal played at CHF for a cple of games...great half back mind you)

It's interesting how Smoky rated these....sort of Like for like.
For mine:
Daicos v Didak = Daicos (Daics would have kicked a few against Johnno or Tooves as good as they are)

Monkhurst v Jolly = Monky (This would have been close. Jolly was in "schmicko" form in 2010)

Shaw v Maxwell = Shaw (As captains?? Shaw won a Norm Smith, Maxwell got us to the replay...Draw)

Gavin Brown v Chris Dawes = Rowdy (No comparison...Champion versus Kid)

Ned Kelly v Nathan Brown... Ned Kelly (Similar types, Salmon worried Ned early in '90)

Kerro v Toovey... Kerro....( Nup...Tooves wins this one and runs away with it)

Denis Banks v Harry Obrien = Debatable... but I take Banksy. (Banks by a mile)

Graeme Wright v Dale Thomas = Please... (Would be a ripper of a battle..both racehorses that love to tackle)

Darren Millane v Ben Johnson = Sorry Jono... but you voted for Millane too... (Millane V's Swan???)

McGuane v Pendlebury = Pendlebury ...(again I think this would have been a beauty...draw)

Scott Russell v Dane Swan = Swan ....( Sidebottom versus Russell I'd say)

Michael Christian v Travis Cloke = Cloke...(Matthews would have played Kelly on Cloke...would've been a good go too)

Gavin Crosisca v Ben Reid = Crosisca (I'd think that Reid would shade Crosisca...But if Crosisca failed he also had Starcevic and Banks to play that role)

Tony Francis v Jarryd Blair = Franga...(Francis v Beams? ) hmmm...

Jamie Turner v Luke Ball = Ball ... (Ball is the perfect matchup for Tony Shaw)

Doug Barwick v Wellingham = Barwick every day of the week....I'll take that bet too. Wellers could mark as well as run and he always scored goals in big games.

Mick Gayfer v Heath Shaw = Heath Shaw (yep Shaw's more talented...but how many goals were ever scored against "the blanket"?)

Shane Morwood v Goldack = Morph...agreed

Michael Starcevich v MaCaffer = MaCaffer....(McCaffer is too small for Starcevic...Starc would have copped Goldsack or Maxwell.

James Manson v Leigh Brown = draw...and what a mighty Draw that one would have been!!

Was at both GFs and it's very hard to split them : 1990 was a gutsy win, Pies were the underdogs and the brawl just before quarter time was the turning point. Like a fuse had been lit and a whole lot of uncompromising mongrel was unleashed on the remainder of the game. An unbelievable day, the crowds in Hoddle St and Johnson St not to mention Vic Park after the game were a sight to behold.

2010 was sensational, again Pies were not expected to win but they played like an absolute machine. Defensive pressure all over the ground with precise skills and execution, a true 4 quarter effort. What a year that was .....

Difficult choice to make but on balance, based on the defensive pressure and game plan, I'd have to say 2010.

The 1990 side for mine.

If my memory serves me correct we won the last 10 games by an average of approx 11 goals even though we drew with the Eagles in a final that year.

The team won the GF regardless of the enormous pressure that was the Wobbles and the curse of the bone for those that remember.

There were so many GF loses over decades.

Thus the magnitude of the achievement.

Does anyone remember the home and away game against Essendon a few weeks before the finals and it all came down to that pile up in our goal square and we just couldn't get that goal.. the intensity was basically what you see these days, a moment 20 years ahead of it's time.. the raging bull charging through dragging a black and red rag doll behind him just before he gets hit and Brown, Keays and Daicos spearing the pack from different directions.. the commentators just flipped out because they'd never seen that kind of football before.. it was awesome :thumbsu:

18min 40sec in

ps: Bomber Thompson cheating even back then, deliberate out of bounds before the rule was put in place :p

And how about Kelly's gather and disposal under pressure in the dying seconds.. hope Jake is just as good Ned :rainbow:

I remember it, I was there, rained for most of the day.
We lost by a goal but it shouldn't been a point, as Essendon got paid a goal that went straight through the points!

I had the pleasure of watching both teams win premierships and during the course of each season. I have no doubt the 2010 team would win and win easily. Back in 1990, we were not the best team over the course of the season but had a great September with a few things going our way and which worked against Essendon. Outside of Daicos, Brown and Millane the 1990 team was more workman like, and IMO lacked the class of the 2010 Premiership team.

The 2010 midfield of Swan, Pendlebury, Beams, Ball, Wellingham, Thomas, and Sidebottom is a class above Shaw, Millane, Wright, Francis, McGuane, and Russell.

It's all academic, but 2010 by 60+ points

Hey just like the real 2010 grand final! (almost)
