Watching the DVD of this game, and I seem to be missing one of the SA players. Here's the list that I have so far in numerical order, keeping in mind that Origin had 22 man squads as opposed to 21 at the time for the AFL season matches...

1: Richard CHAMPION (Bris)
2: Andrew JARMAN (Adel)
5: Andrew McKAY (Carl)
7: Nigel SMART (Adel)
8: Nick DAFFY (Rich)
10: Chris McDERMOTT (C, Adel)
11: Darren JARMAN (Haw)
12: Simon TREGENZA (Adel)
14: Gavin WANGANEEN (Ess)
15: David PITTMAN (Adel)
16: Todd VINEY (Melb)
17: Matthew CLARKE (Bris)
19: Sean WELLMAN (Adel)
20: Paul BULLUSS (Rich)
21: Craig BRADLEY (Carl)
22: David HYNES (WC)
26: Mark BICKLEY (Adel)
29: Scott RUSSELL (Coll)
32: Mark RICCIUTO (Adel)
34: Ben HART (Adel)
44: John PLATTEN (Haw)

Need to know who's missing?

BTW, the quiz regarding the Victorian team can be found at http://www.sporcle.com/games/stmookeyj/vicsoo1995

The missing player is Martin McKinnon. Don't know what number he wore, but he only had 5 posessions for the match, so maybe he was easy to overlook on the DVD.

Marty McKinnon lol. Bottom of the barrel well and truly scraped.

Wouldn't have picked that in a billion years - can only assume Sticks Kernahan, Tony Modra, Craig McRae, Tony McGuinness, Nick Holland, Andrew Obst, Scott Camporeale, Darryl Wakelin, Darren Kappler, Adam Heuskes, Steven Sziller, Michael O'Loughlin, Brayden Lyle and half the SANFL were either injured or furthering the art of sex tourism.

Ah that was the Ted Whitten final lap game.

Yep SA had not much of a forward line - lots of injuries. I went to the game with a couple of mates from Sydney, caught up with mates we played footy with, some who came over from SA and others living in Melbourne. I remember telling them that SA had to play Jarman at full forward as no Modra or Kernahan or even no McGuiness and no Holland meant no goals. I reminded them that Jarman played at North Adelaide in 1990 and kick 9 goals in the second half at full forward before heading of to the Hawks in 1991. I think he got 5 minutes at FF that state game. 27 months later he showed what he could do at FF in the last quarter of the 1997 GF kicking 5.

Once Teddy did that lap it wouldn't have mattered who was playing for SA. The Vics were never going to lose that game.

No joy for Clive Waterhouse - I remember him being picked in 1994 when he was playing for Port (Magpies) though, but that might have been a squad shortlist.

Couldn't believe that SA would overlook guys such as Steve Kernahan, Tony McGuinness, Nick Holland (his performance for the Hawks against St Kilda at Waverley in 1999 probably made the SA selectors think 'why did we overlook this guy?'), also a couple of the SANFL players would've been handy for SA like Tim Ginever, Garry McIntosh, Brett Chalmers. But really, after EJ did his final lap of the MCG, it was a case of how far the Vics. Notice too, due to the wet weather, the rugby league line marking on the MCG is still evident. This was played the week after the rugby league State of Origin NSW-Qld Game 2 (famous for the all-in brawl 2 min after kick-off).
