This time somebody else can get the ball rolling.

Well CJ has had a couple of niggling injuries in the off season, but hopefully he'll be ready to go when the first ball is bounced in 2001.
Good Luck CJ, have a great season.
cheers...

I love the way Chris takes the opposition on & backs himself.

There is nothing more pleasing than attacking defenders & with Johnson he fits the bill.

Although a small player he is a good judge of the ball in the air & often outmarks taller opponents. Like all good players he anticipates where the ball will be & in the confusion of play can appear from nowhere & run out the other side of the pack with ball in hand before anyone realizes what has happened.

It is especially good to see him overcome adjustment problems & really mature as a footballer.

All i can say is that i'm so glad he didn't take off a couple of years ago when he wanted to. he is one hell of a player - and definetely belongs in the backline - sometimes he can be just a bit to arratic for the forward line. he seems to really step up in that back line.
cheers

Chris has the classic dilema that all highly skilled, passionate and flamboyant players have - how can I express myself AND fulfill the varied team requirement thru' a game and a season ?

Coming off the bench as a mismatch, snag-a-few-quick-goals type just didn't suit him and he really was exposed by Pickett in 1999 final. To his great credit, ( and the coaching staff ) , he reinvented himself as an Akermanis type rebound back player , cool in the crisis and occasionally sneaking forward. One of the great success stories of 2000.

Good point OldLion, we didn't really see that much of Johnson's ability in 1999, but since he has been moved to the backline he has proven to be a highly valuable player, especially with his evasive abilities.

Forgot to mention his great tackling ability to. There was a couple of games last year where he laid about 3 tackles in a matter of about 20 seconds. Very impressive.

Its ironic that Chris Johnson was Mr. Unsettled and the first of the Fitzroy players to declare his wish to return to Melbourne in the year of "The Deal" and now remains as the last of them and probably as settled as anyone in the side. Hers hoping he can stay injury free for the season because our team is much the better for him in the side.
