2 Rookie Upgrades

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

With Passing the 2 PSD Picks allows us to upgrade 2 Rookies at any Time.

So be Intresting to see who will get the Promotions Especially with the Mature Age Players we Rookied.

People think Hudson will get the 1st one but I say depends on Injuries.

Though Hudson might get it because of Protracting the Young Rucks and giving them Support when they play and also give Jolly some Rest.

Your Thoughts?

Agree on Big Ben for 1 spot and I'd think whoever shows the most, out of the rookies, over the NAB Cup may get the gig. We have the option of elevating a guy due to a Long Term Injury, so that'd be in addition to this.

Then again we may just hold out until the season proper, if we don't have to nominate someone before the end of month.

Basically, it's just a bunch of stuff that may happen.:D

Didn't Hine already state that they were going to nominate Hudson for promotion?

What's the deal with rookies? Can they play AFL games without being upgraded? And if so, how many until they need to be upgraded?

Mooney and Dywer imo

Mooney already banging down the door for senior selection, should improve massively next year again.

I would rather we elongate our rucks than protract them but maybe Hudson can help with tap angles - it's all in the wrist.

“So, because we’re carrying 38 players on the primary list, it gives us the scope to have two nominated rookies, of which one we’ve committed to Ben, and it creates competition within the rest of the boys as to who the extra rookie will be.

“We don’t need to name either nominated rookies until March, and then we have scope mid-season to nominate another rookie. We’ve also got the scope (to promote a rookie) if there’s a long-term injury.”

I'm confused.

So if that's the case, why didn't we simply pick up Hudson in the PSD? If we're committed to putting him on the senior list anyway, why wait until March?

ps. Great thread TradeDraft

I believe Martin will get promoted. They will want Mooney to get another year behind him and I believe he only received games this year through a massive lack of pace, which we have picked up through draft and trade period.

Injury permitting, i'd bet a lot of money mooney will be leading goal kicker in the VFL next year, i think he will force himself in through sheer weight of goals.

Yeah i agree he will be our best goal kicker in the VFL again, but i don't wont him to be rushed in the seniors, he was very good in the VFL this year but when playing AFL he just doesn't quite know how to use his pace so i give him one more year on the rookie list and he will be ready for 2014, thats my opinion.

If we give him early AFL games to get used to the tempo he could be a serious asset come finals time.

yeah true but it can work both ways. Could stunt his development or improve it, very delicate decision that the coaching staff has to make! But he is a gun in the making that kid!

Imo give him 3-4 games in the VFL to start the year (plus nab cup) to build his confidence and improve his game a little more then chuck him in the AFL team and give him 6-7 weeks to see what he can do

awesome so it looks like old journeyman ruckmen hudson will get games ahead of witts or grundy.

fantastic.

Watch his interview on our website, he says if witts/grundy come along they will get games ahead of him, and his first priority is coaching/mentoring not playing so don't expect him to play much in the seniors

Does not mean that at All. Means he will Be Some Help if Jolly Goes down as we can't put the Whole Work on Witts and Grundy as they are Kids

Is this the Irish Mooney or some other one? "will be leading goal kicker" .....ours? yeh maybe. For the whole vfl.... that is a big call. I hope you're right

When i say leading goal kicker in the VFL i meant for our VFL team, sorry.

I dont think Hudson has been promised anything. I think there are 2 spots on the list and Buckley is telling the rookies to fight for a spot. I suppose that the second spot isnt going to be filled in Jolly falls down and Hudson is needed...

If one of the young ruckmen does really well in the AFL team and we're not so worried about Jolly falling down, we might use the second spot on the list for another VFL mid-fielder. If both young ruckmen do well, then we might fill that second spot earlier than expected.
