2 Rookie Upgrades

Imagine a scenario where we don't nominate Hudson and miraculously have a dream run with injuries. Jolly then needs 3 or 4 weeks off with a niggle. Say, Witts and Grundy are battling away in the VFL but all can see they are not ready to step up in big games but, we can't elevate Huddo because we don't have an LTI slot for him!

With one slot probably going to Huddo, I see Mooney and Dwyer fighting it out for the other nominated rookie slot.

Mooney has freakish athleticism and could be anything but is still very raw and still very much learning the game; he is a tantalizing prospect yet is still very much an experiment. We don't need to rush him this season, every game he can play -at either AFL or VFL level- is, (at this early stage) a good step towards his learning the game, gaining valuable experience and developing. There is no need to rush him IF he is not ready.

Dyer has experience and polish and is elite in the nation's second best comp, (some claim he is the best player in the comp) he is 26 and its a big step up in class, it is a rare last crack at the big show that he will be super hungry to grab. His fitness base might play a significant part in whether he gets the slot or not.

It is a decision that can, should and will go down to the wire and will depend on how well these guys train up to nomination time.
