In no particular order:

Matt Neilsen
Glen Savillle
Sam MacKinnon
Shane Heal
Stephen Black
John Rillie
Brett Maher
CJ Bruton
Andrew Bogut
Simon Dwight
Chris Anstey
David Andersen

How about

Centres:
Anstey, Rogers
PF:
Neilsen, Andersen
SF:
MacKinnon, Saville
SG:
Smith, Rillie
PG:
Heal, Bruton

Dwight to backup the forwards and Drmic to backup the guards because we need some height.

Nah, Franky D can pharque right off... ;) But with Boy Goorj, anything's possible.

The main borderline players would be Rogers, Helliwell and Cattalini. I personally believe that other than 15 guys I've mentioned, no one has really earned a look-in.

Where is Drmic these days, is he playing in Europe?

One would think Bogut and Andersen would be strong contenders for Olympic spots.

You simply cant ignore James Harvey. He has been playing too well not to make the squad.

Ronaldson sucks.

Not a fan of Harvey either.

I agree

I actually like Old School's list and think that its pretty much spot on, with two small changes.

Forget about Drmic and instead take Black with you instead as the guy will be a fixture for many years to come. In addition to that, and this is a very hard, call but I would presonally leave Saville out and take Bogut. Now this is harsh as Saville is a great performer at NBL level but Bogut is a potential NBA star and we need to take some risks to ensure that he continues to develop. Savilles absence does leave us short at small forward spots but both Dwight and Neilsen can play minutes there as can Smith if we decide to go small.

By the way have you noticed who the starting centre for that team his... it James Havrilla "Gorilla", for those who do not remember him he was a monster that played with Devils in NBL and was an absolute dud... I think he also ended up joining the Nets for a short time too..

Black has some genuine claims but with Heal, Bruton, Smith, and Rillie as the guards, I thought they might need a taller option against the teams with taller guards.
Maher should be a candidate but I'm not sure he wants to back-up Heal again.
It does pose a question, Who's better as the back-up PG Maher or Bruton ?

Big Jim was a shocker, broke the glass early in the season and people thought he would be great. Didn't do much after that.
Who was the other import a PG that played alongside of Jim ?
Whiteside ?? He played for a while with Toronto I think.

I think it was Donald Whitside.

The Gorilla wound up with a back full of stiches after he tore it down too. Not sure who was worse, him or Jeff Allen(Wildcats 1990)

Boomers at Athens? same old story, potential Bronze medalists.

I thiink that they were both recruited by Cal Bruton...

Shows you one thing...Cal should not have recrutied big guys should have stuck to guards only.

bogut, anstey, rogers(centers)
neilson, anderson(power forwards)
cattalini, mackinnon, saville(small forwards)
maher, rillie, black(shooting guards)
heal, bruton(point guards)

any of the shooting guards could fill in as point.

what are your thoughts?

we only suit 12 dont we?

I think a better question is who's better as a starter Shane Heal or Brett Maher? Maher is one of the best players this country has produced and the minutes he has got under Goorjian are a disgrace.

Heal has the big profile and is Goorjians love child, but in my opinion is no better than Maher

Maher is pretty ordinary. I dont even think he should be in the side for the coming Olympics. Heal is our starting PG.

You sir, just lost all credibility with that first sentence. Brett is a proven clutch peformer (I live in Adelaide, I see him a lot), has rounded his game out, has a huge heart and when he's not injured or coping with family tragedy he is close to the best Australian born player in the NBL.

His minutes under Barnes were disgraceful, and if he's fit he should be one of the first picked.

remember the call on Maher coming out of the AIS... can't shoot. Well he must the best shooter in the NBL in the past decade Drewy and Heal and any other import are as money with an open shot and Heal marginally better with a hand in the face.

Great effort from a guy who could not shoot at the AIS... (it is all relative ofcourse)
