What better benchmark than Geelong's?

well in case you didn't realise there's 16 teams in the comp, it's not being too objective if we dismiss our progress simply by benchmarking too Geelong. That would be like saying Delidio is slow coz he aint as quick as Usain Bolt, we are emerging from the ruck like others are in ESS, Carl et al...it's relevant to compare our progress with them also...Are you always so narrow minded, seriously:confused:

I want our club to be the best so we should compare ourselves to the best. Nothing wrong with that. Your Deledio analogy is just over the top rambling like most of your posts.

Well can you please direct us to the hawks road because they finished 2nd with a younger list than ours and have a real shot at a flag this year and for the next 3 years. We have to wait at least another 2 according to wallace.

wrong dick wad go back and look at the list cuts and who was left after the first 2 years, from memory we turned over 22 players in the first 2 years under Wallace how much further would you like to cut and still have some senior players.

we are were we should be but we are now loaded and ready to go forward in a big way

Last count it was 18. I could right off 15 names on our list right now without blinking an eye.

it's taking a broadminded view which always corners your tunnel vision...it's a 16 team competition. I would suggest that the last placed side has an ordinary list and we work upwards from there...ratings can get a little subjective toward the middle when only a win or two separate sides.I f we adopted your simple minded logic, every other side in the league would have an ordinary list compared to Geelong seeing as they only lost 1 game with an AVG winning margin of 60pts:eek:

Every other side does have an ordinary list compared to Geelong. They dominated last year and this year. Just goes to show how far ahead of the rest they are.

Now how do we try to become the best? We have to be better than the best. Their list is miles ahead of ours, and we are not going to get anywhere until we have a list with a good spread of list types and ages, just like Geelong does. The only side that comes close to Geelong in this regard is West Coast.

Well said tigertiger.
One thing that should be noted is that if you take the five top age players out of each list the RFC is nearly a full year younger (21 years and 3 months) on average than any other team in the comp except the Bombers (21 Y & 6 M) and we are still younger on average than they are.
If you look at some of the clubs with their 5 oldest players out they still have average age in the mid 20s, such as Sydney, StKilda, Adelaide and even Geelongs average in about 24.
FWIW Hawthorn sits mid table at 22 years and 9 months.

well there are many that argue that a premiership is built on the quality of your defence...I'll put my aggots on the line and say that I wouldn't trade our three backs (Moore, McGuane, Thursty)for any other teams other than the Cats...Thats the advantage we hold over the sides around us and even immediately in front of us. Our midfield will continue to improve as most have played less that 30 games ea I believe we now have ~ 30 players to choose a competitive outfit, thats not an ordinary list:confused:

In an ideal world, none of McGuane, Thursfield or Moore would be playing KPP.

i dont know what fantasy world that is, In the real one I can report that there was only ONE occasion all year that a key forward kicked more than 3g v the Tigers ...Bloody ruffhead ...we turned the tables though

oh.and ..I didn't rate Corey Jones or Milney as a Key forward:rolleyes:

No doubt they did a fantastic job, and I'd even go to say that McGuane had a better year than Thursfield.

Thursfield is being played 3rd tall which is what he should be played. Moore as a rebounding defender on those medium forwards, he would kill it. McGuane I think he will come as very good trade bait for GC. Look for Rance to play CHB in 2010 with hopefully a draft pick from this year taking FB.
