Prediction time guys... to be bought up at the end of the season no doubt, for posterity.
LADDER -
1. St.Kilda (Must finish top. Simply must. Quality at either end now and with an injury-free year should win the flag)
2. Geelong (See above re. injuries at least, still massive scope for improvement)
3. WCE (Nice midfield, shame about the foward line. Worse than ours)
4. Fremantle (And about bloody time, too, with the list they've got)
5. Sydney (Back to their perennial mid-eight position)
6. Melbourne (The perennial not-quite-good-enough team of the last two years will again be not-quite-good-enough)
7. Adelaide (Surely someone important will get injured this year, unlike their dream run last year)
8. Brisbane (A whole lot better than last year's placing suggests. Will help hugely if Brown plays 15+ games)
9. Western Bulldogs (Lack of tall timber means that the rebuilding process is three steps foward, two back)
10. Collingwood (Shocking injury run last year; let's all hope they do badly again)
11. Port Adelaide (Losing Pickett will hurt badly; Tredrea and the Cornes boys as well as home advantage will keep Port from the bottom four)
12. North (Underrated again; but even if they do have another great run like last year they're no flag material)
13. Richmond (As long as Mssrs Brown, Coughlan, Richardson and Johnson stay fit then the Tiges won't finish bottom)
14. Essendon (Suspect in their midfield and back half but too much class in the Johnsons, Lloyd, Lucas and Hird to be everyweek's easybeats)
15. Hawthorn (Showing improvement doesn't always have to mean winning games)
16. Carlton (When we play these guys, anything less than a 40-point win probably isn't good enough)
Premiers: St.Kilda by four goals over Geelong
Norm Smith Medalist: Nick Dal Santo, or possibly Stephen Milne
Brownlow: Judd, again.
Coleman: Most likely Gherig, with, let's say, 82.
GEELONG-SPECIFIC TIPPING
Position: Runners-up. Again. Yeh, you read that right.
B and F top three: Ling, Scarlett, Chapman
AA: Read as above, plus "Dasher" Milburn.
Most Improved: Kane Tenace
Leading Goalkicker: Kent (59)
and...
3 burning questions:
1. Will Steven King shake off his achilles injury?
No, but it would revolutionise our side if he did.
Will Henry Playfair be our established CHF by Round 22?
Yes, he will. (Leave this one, Jack. We'll take it as granted)
Will Nathan Ablett be our established FF by Round 22?
No. Still too young and raw - but still an excellent young player nonetheless.
