If Myke Cook is shown to be a good player (injury over) then IMO the last national draft will be the Crows best ever.

Would anyone disagree with this?

It's already very promising with Dangerzone, Otten, Jumpin Jack, Armstrong, Kite and Texas. Then there's Petrenko and other rookies just starting to make their mark.

Even with the dark clouds of Birdman's and Porp's injuries hanging over us I still feel excited about next year.

I believe McGregor, Basset and Biglands would all be worried about their futures. It's nearly time, Craig is an excellent coach, 2010 - Year of the Crow!:)

I will reserve my opinions on how we went draft wise once these guys actually start playing. Over the years we have seen many hyped players come and go from the Crows list without making an impact.

I like your current avatar a lot better than your old one.

P.S. We gotta called Patrick "Rodney" ... not Dangerzone!

I agree they do look exciting but once they start playing AFL is when the judgement of how good this draft has been for us. One good thing about this crop of youngsters is most have speed

I guess Walker gets classified as a draftee even though he was already ours beforehand really. Armstrong and Jacky- jury is still out but the rest do look goods. Don't agree with Craig being labeled "excellent" though, he is a good coach.

RL - Depends on your definition of excellent. If it's attributed to having an excllent win/loss ratio, then Craig is up there. If it's only judged on premierships then NG is down at the base. IMO NG has an excllent foundation, just needs to crown the crow.

If you had the pick of the current coaches, who would you prefer: Matthews, Roos, Williams, Malthouse,Thompson or Worsfold. These all have current premierships. IMO Malthouse, Thompson and Worsfold all had outstanding teams that would win under any coach. Matthews won three in a row, outstanding as a coach and the best in the league IMO (though a great team - but three!). I belive William's coaching is based on fear not personal excellence. So I would have Craig but consider Matthews or Roos if available.

I think you are right. Given it was a weak draft to, we have done very well.
The only player im dissapointed not getting is Wonae, but other than that excellent.
I must admit i have now got a lot of confidence in Matt Rendell and his team.
I love his honesty on whether players are good or not, and i think Matt has a different criteria to recruiting players than other recruiters. Has a high emphases on speed and character. I doubt he would've picked sellar if he was in charge of the 2006 draft.
But given this coming draft is the best ever, i have every confidence in gaining great players (which i didnt under Fantasia and initially under Rendell after the 'Hudson Trade' incident.
I think we must go hard this draft period which we will i think.
Get rid of:
-campbell;
-Burton (im sorry but he is finished-time to move on!);
-McGregor;
-Biglands;
-Basset;
-Shirley;
-Gill;
-2 of: Jericho/Doughty/McLeod/Edwards/Goodwin

Thats 9 players delisted, promote petrenko, and draft 8 new players.
Lets stock up. There is no use in keeping Burton if we arent going to win a premiership for at least another 2 years and by that time Burton will be too old even if he comes back successfully in 1.5 years time.

Lets stock up of quick/Agile/Strong/Good Character youngsters, and do what Geelong have done and what Hawthorn will do soon.

From what i have heard on radio today from Neil and Triggy, i think what i have written above will occur, our club will no longer bury their heads in the sand!

Craig said in the press conference today/yesterday? that if we are going to have an aggressive draft then this one coming up is the one to do it in. I think that would suggest a few players are on the way out. Will make for a very young list next year.

Hey Relapse - who do you reckon were the most overhyped non achievers over the years?

Agree though - the 07 draft looks promising.....so far.

Angwin Meesen B.Williams Gilligan

Could of sworn all were going to be 200 game players for us... Can you imagine how good we would be if they were? Hooly Dooly

Depends on your definition of excellent.

My opposite definition of excellent is when you come out at the start of the year and say you are going to play young blokes and then Taylor Walker keeps kicking bags of goals in the SANFL and you put McGregor and Jerico in... piss weak

Well have a look at our experience with first round picks

John Meesen
Fergus Watts
Brent Williams
Darren Pfeiffer

The only player so far that has made an impact for our club from being our first round pick is Brett Burton and to some extent Richard Douglas all the rest have been a bust minus Sellar and Rodney because they are still under development.

My main point is that we are not Port Adelaide so most of us wait until we actually see how these guys go in the AFL before proclaiming them superstars.
