That side is too light on for experience. Smith will still be playing, Vandenberg & Clarke would get a run in that side and i think Young will be a permanent fixture by then.

We are too slow in the middle and Bateman should be put in there for some pace and his outside play would be a change from the inside ball winners in Hodge, Mitch & Lewis.

Other players who could easily be a permanent fixture by 2007 are Ladson, Thurgood & Dawson.

And by the way who is P Kennedy? I think you meant John Kennedy's son who's name is Josh meaning that if we draft the Kennedy in this years draft that we will have 2 Josh Kennedy's at the club by the end of next year.

how can you seriously predict an 07 team? when serious injuries, trades, or delisting can change our whole team line up? Playaplaya can u just keep on the 06 team and maybe post up your team line ups after the national and pre season draft...........

Not sure about Everitt & Crawf still running around in the brown & gold in 2007.
Otherwise looks good i think!
why wouldn't crawf and spider be playing in 2007? I'd be hoping crawf will be playing in 2008, same as spider...... they aren't exactly playing bad footy.

Its too hard to say a team in 2007, its harding enough trying to predict next year, as we still don't know the draft selections, psd pick up, etc.

ok here we go forget psd draft, the early draft picks, etc, based on our current list here is round 1 2006 team vs freo. remember brown is suspended for the first 2wks. my opinion...

HAWTHORN 2006

B:Jacobs,Dawson,Brown
HB:Hodge,Roughead,Smith
C:Lewis,Mitchell,Bateman
HF:Franklin,Croad,Barker
F:Boyle,Williams,Pick 3
FOLL:Everitt,Vandenberg,Crawford
I/C:Taylor,Sewell,Osbourne,Miller
EMERG:Young,Ladson,Brennan

And thats with out Pick 6,14,18 and 22!

My 2006 setup...

B: Michael Osbourne, Jarrad Roughead, Danny Jacobs
HB: Richard Vandenberg, Trent Croad, Joel Smith
C: Shane Crawford, Luke Hodge, Chance Bateman
HF: Ben Dixon, Tim Boyle, Lance Franklin
F: Mark Williams, Peter Everitt, Josh Thurgood
1R: Simon Taylor, Jordan Lewis, Sam Mitchell
INT: Brad Sewell, Clinton Young, Zac Dawson, Harry Miller
EMER: Luke Brennan, Rick Ladson, Nick Ries

I’m not a Hawthorn Supporter but I had a crack, this is excluding the National and Pre- Season draft and including Campbell Brown’s suspension. Trent Croad keep the all-Australian CHB there. Roughhead at FB because of the vacant position left from Hay. Clearance king Hodge in the middle. Timmy Boyle CHF, of what I saw when we played you last season he lead really well and fitted in quite nicely. Everitt FF because he can take a grab and kick a goal if not swap with Taylor. Miller to come of the bench and supply speed into the midfield and up forward. Sewell to tag and Dawson to take the third tall forward. I do not rate Brennan he has ********house disposal.

Not bad for a Port Adelaide supporter! Probably the best one I have seen so far in this thread. My only worry is the forward line which lacks crumbing players.

Both Miller and Sewell could play that crumbing role.

Mine's very similar;
B: Michael Osborne, Jarrad Roughead, Danny Jacobs
HB: Richard Vandenberg, Trent Croad, Joel Smith
C: Brad Sewell, Luke Hodge, Chance Bateman
HF: Ben Dixon, Tim Boyle, Lance Franklin
F: Mark Williams, Peter Everitt, Zac Dawson

Obviously we would be playing a 5 man forward line, with Sewell to be tagging. I put Dawson in the forward line, but he would create a spare man in defence, opening up our forward line a bit. I don't think there's any value in having Lewis and Mitchell on the field at the same time as there are question marks on their speed - Hodge also. You did pretty well for a non-Hawthorn fan anyway :)

2007 mate ;)

Let's go to 2008. Why not? It's all forward speculation in the off-season.

Key Backs: Thurgood (23, FB), Croad (28, CHB/CHF), Dawson (22), Jacobs (28)
Key Forwards: Everitt (34, FF/FP), Williams (25, FF/FP), Roughead (22, CHF/CHB), Franklin (22, HFF/CHF or even as a target on the wing)
Rucks: Taylor (26) OR Campbell (26) PLUS an import or draftee
Midfield: Hodge (24), Mitchell (26), Bateman (27), Brown (25), Clarke (26), Lewis (23), Sewell (24)
Plug-Ins: Crawford (34), Vandenberg (32), Smith (31), Osborne (26), Boyle (24), Ladson (24), Miller (23), Young (22)

Add a couple of as yet nameless 21 year olds.

When I look at it this way, I think pretty much everything depends on the progress of Thurgood, Dawson, Roughead, Franklin, Taylor and Boyle. If we get three stars from these six, we're a genuine force.

The midfield is hot: Tough; they can get it; they can challenge others for it; they can run with it; they can use it; they are all team players.

This forward set-up has appeal for mine: Everitt stands at the top of the square. Williams stands beside him and leads into space. Crawford starts between HFF and wing, and runs forward towards Everitt - offering both an alternative lead and a crumbing option. Anyone forward of centre looks for Williams, or occasionally spots Crawf running to space. If nothing looks juicy, bomb it to Spida at the top of the square as Crawf approaches and Willo doubles back towards the side that Crawf isn't covering. Headaches for the opposition, I would have thought. Whatever the defensive setup, they still need quality players to cover Roughead/Croad, Franklin, Boyle...

For my first post,
My team for 2006:

B: Brown Dawson Jacobs
HB:Thurgood Roughhead Ladson
C: Young Mitchell Bateman
HF:Franklin Boyle Little
F: Williams Croad Crawf
R: Everitt Hodge Smith

Bench: Tayor Vanders Sewell Lewis
Emerg: Miller Clarke Campbell

Notes: Dawson to be thrown in the deep end on 2nd best tall but with jacobs and thurgood good at being 3rd man up and getting fist in hopefully wont struggle too much. Appears being groomed for FB and AC&co appeared to like throwing players in early at the start of this season. Roughie takes best forward, brown best small fwd, jacobs 3rd tall/loose man and experienced head down back. Thurgood Brown and ladson to provide run out of back half and hopefully ladson to show off the potential and kicking skills hes touted for.
-Young and bateman to provide real good pace and carry along wings with mitchell extracting
- Boyle to finally stop getting injured and stand up at CHF, Croad to play power fwd role and take best defender. William provide leading option from pocket and crumbing option with crawf. Little is my smokey selection, to take 6th defender and hopefully to show us his goalkicking talent /footy nous, preseason reports appear to be encouraging. Franklin HFF role
-Smith to move up predominately to midfield after struggling this season in a backline role, but can provide backline cover if there struggling.
-Sewell- tagger. Taylor to relief ruck and occasionaly provide long marking target from goalsquare. Vanders, Lewis part of midfield rotation.

Overall young team, but good pace theough midfield and flanks, and if dawson and boyle can really show something structure not too bad

Team for 2007
2005 Draftees: Ellis (mid/hbf), McEntee (ruck), Muston (mid/fwd, Thomas(mid/small forward) , Markovic (smokey FF), Tuck F/s

2007/2008 Lineup
B: Brown Dawson T. Murphy
HB:Thurgood Croad Ellis
C: Young Hodge Franklin
HF:Boyle Roughhead Muston
F: Thomas Markovic Little
R: McEntee Mitchell Batemen
Int: Sewell, Lewis, Everitt, Crawf

Notes- croad dawson kpp murphy 3rd tall, brown best small fwd thurgood 2nd small/4th tall, ellis whatever left.
-Franklin and young causin havoc with there pace and long kicking with hodgie in the middle doing his thing.
-3 tall marking fwds, two talented mid sized fwd and mercurial small fwd in Thomas with franklin pushing fwd at times to cause oppostion another.headache.
-Everiit coming off bench to be best 2nd ruck in league :) , sewell providing a tagging option and crawf, lewis providing more midfield options.

As you can see im bored, and love speculating about the future but the above team on potential and structure could be v promising although might be closer to 2008 lineup. Dont think im expecting too much of each player to improve (yeah maybe markovic, mcentee but all new youngsters are top25 picks with big wraps). Any comments?

Its all speculation though but fun to do

that team doesn't look too bad, best of the lot mentioned so far

only issue is that hawthorns biggest strength has been spida's rucking to slug, hodge et al, putting taylor in the ruck could ruin this, or just hoping that slug can rove to the oppo rucks like the pies mids in 02,03!!

if spida plays in ruck still light on for a big key forward as buddy & boyle still not ready for a full season of footy as key forwards

backline looks good tho, two mature talls croad & jacobs helping out promising roughy is perfect

still 2008 before hawks are a force of any note tho.....if the young kids come on as hoped
