re do the first round now we have seen them play and with clubs needs that we know

1. Carlton - Cyril Rioli - have to take him as he is the best from the draft and will be a great midfielder and forward for the blues

2. Richmond - Patrick Dangerfield - need quality mids and would take someone who is durable and hard to try and change their culture. cotchin too injured and they are worried about long term

3. West Coast - Trent Cotchin - know he will take time but happy to spend time down ladder and know he wull op well in their culture

4. Melbourne - Matthew Kruezer - need a ruckman and another forward so is perfect fit

5. Western bulldogs - - Jarraod Grant - still think he will be a solution to forward problems soon

6. Essendon - Tate Pears - key player for their future to take over from fletch

7. Fremantle - Rhys Palmer - need everything but stay with Palmer because they love him

8. Brisbane - Cale Morton - he is soft but he is a good mid for them to go with black and power

9. St Kilda - Callan Ward - they have most covered but he is just the type of footballer they love. they wish they got rioli

10. Adelaide - Jack Grimes - classy footballer who will follow craigs orders and execute game plan perfect

11. Sydney - David Myers - they love classy running backs and will think they can get the most out of him

12. Hawthorn - Scott Thompson - get a good full back that they need

13. West Coast - Lachlan henderson - add another tall that can develop with Kennedy

14. Melbourne - Chris masten - add a good classy midfielder to a very bare bunch

15. North melbourne - Brad Ebert - add the best midfielder available to a weak area

16. Port Adelaide - Patrick Vezpremi - get some chardness into their team and some classiness

17. Geelong - stay with harry Taylor to back up their defence

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

why???
most people would say that cyril will be the best player from 2007.

Most intelligent people would say that it's far, far too early to tell. And that you can only order them compared to what you've seen so far.

Best player will be out of: Riloi (yes, he's up there), Cotchin, Kreuzer, Dangerfield or Grimes.......but that's just me.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Richmond would still take Cotchin ahead of Dangerfield imo, you would have to have palmer ahead of dangerfield also.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

kruezer would still go number one, cotchin still picked up by richmond and harry taylor is too much of a quality player to slip through to pick 17.

try again mystical mac.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

IMO your rankings are not the best, some are really dodgy, Grant who has shown nothing at AFL level over Cale Morton and Chris Masten??? Also I can't see Carlton changing there first pick. The first round in 2007 looks to be very good, drafting really has improved over the last few years.

1. Carlton: Matthew Kruezer - The best bigman in the draft, and has shown he has what it takes to become a very good ruckman, or a good CHF.

2. Richmond: Trent Cotchin - Has shown enough to suggest he has what it takes to become elite over time.

3. West Coast: Chris Masten - Looks to be a very good inside mid, only just over Rioli and Dangerfield though.

4. Melbourne: Patrick Dangerfield - Looks to have all the skills as a mid, has a lot of development left, and the Demons could use a pacy inside mid.

5. Bulldogs: Cale Morton - Looks to be a good winger/HBF with elite skills, has potential to become an excellent CHF IMO. Bulldogs could use a KPF but none are worth it an Morton may end up as a CHF.

6. Essendon: Cyril Rioli - Hyped up a lot on BF, yet still an excellent player, a very good HFF, who may spend time in the middle but for mine I have doubts still on him becoming a full time mid. The Bombers need a player like this.

7. Fremantle: Rhys Palmer - Was excellent last year, kicking needs a bit of work but not as bad as everyone makes out to be and it should improve, Freo still need him as a mid.

8. Brisbane Lions: Callan Ward - A very good inside mid, very similar to J. Selwood IMO, Brisbane need a clearance player with good skills.

9. Saint Kilda: Tayte Pears - They could use a KPD and he has been very good so far, potentially elite.

10. Adelaide: Brad Ebert - Has looked very good so far as mid/HFF, Adelaide may still go with a defender.

11. Sydney: Harry Taylor - Still very good, and sydney need a CHB

12. Hawthorn: Ben McEvoy - Hawks need a ruckman and he looks to be very good and can take a good mark.

13. West Coast: Patrick Vespremi - Looks like he will become a very good forward prospect, has nice skills to, WC need a crumber.

14. Melbourne: Jack Grimes - Can't see them changing maybe should go higher but has been injured and I rate others higher, still looks a great prospect though.

15. North Melbourne: Jarrad Grant - Slips because he has shown nothing, yet still developing and looks to possess elite athletic qualities.

16. Port Adelaide: Lachlan Henderson - Port get a KPD, who looks to be a good player, but slides cause he has gone to Carlton.

17. Geelong: Andy Otten - looks have good skills and can rebound as a HBF, may become a mid.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

I have based my Re-Do on the past two years form in the AFL. I have placed the original number the player was drafted to highlight variation in change. Please remember this is Form not potential ability.

Carlton - Pick 1 - Rioli (Haw/P12)
Richmond - Pick 2 - Kreuzer (Carl/P1
West Coast - Pick 3 - Morton (Mel/P4)
Melbourne - Pick 4 - Taylor (Geel/P17)
Western Bulldogs - Pick 5 - Palmer (Frem/P7)
Essendon - Pick 6 - Otten (Adel/P27)
Fremantle - Pick 7 - Pears (Ess/P23)
Brisbane - Pick 8 - Masten (WC/P3)
St. Kilda - Pick 9 - Ward (WB/P19)
Adelaide - Pick 10 - Dangerfield (Adel/P10)
Sydney - Pick 11 - Grimes (Mel/P14)
Hawthorn - Pick 12 - Walker (Adel/P75)
West Coast - Pick 13 - Dalziell (Bris-WC/P52)
Melbourne - Pick 14 - Thompson (NM/P37)
North Melbourne - Pick 15 - Cotchin (Ric/P2) only due to injuries.
Port Adelaide - Pick 16 - Ebert (WC/P13)
Geelong - Pick 17 - Greenwood (NM/P32)

Mention: Bird (Syd/P59), Polkinghorne (Bris/P41), Daniher (Ess/P39), Whitecross (Haw/P29), Henderson (Bris-Carl/P8), Browne (Carl/P36), Meredith (Syd/P26), Rance (Rich/P19), Veszpremi (Syd)

Players such as Grant, Myres, Mcevoy will be good players and this time next year may make this list. However at this time i believe this is how the players rate.

all the clubs love dangerfield and would only take cyril over him. no way freo would take palmer over dangerfield now even if freo supporters wont admit it.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

rioli is so over rated it's not funny, yes he does do some great things but he just does not do it as much as the raps on him would suggest, it’s so frustrating listening to some people go on about him, almost to the point where I hate him and feel robbed that I can’t enjoy watching him play

well where do you think he would go in the redone draft???

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

WCE would take Tyte Pears or Palmer. How he isn't number 1 i dont know he won the raising star award and will be a better player than cyril

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Your drafting on how well these kids have done so far not what clubs needs were from back in 2007.

And i would go cotchin at 2 and as for kruezer he would still go number 1.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Pretty happy with Morton and Grimes thanks. Morton needs to fill out a bit but he will play 200 games. Top-10 in b&f in your second year is pretty decent.
Grimes will be captain of the club. Is a gun.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Happy that we took McEvoy as he is basically set to be our 10 year ruckman after King & Gardiner, for a side that under GT valued ruckmen as well as we did (not very highly for the slow people) we needed a ruckman, since Kreuzer was gone McEvoy was it, is a great bloke and a viable source of leadersip potential down the line once he cracks the senior side. Most ruckmen take time to develop the trade of actual ruckwork, and as enticing as it would have been to swap on the hindight thus far with how players have played, our weakness atthe time was rucks, we since have to look forward to a combination of McEvoy & Stanley as the next pairing (fingers crossed) so there'd be little chance we'd pick a midfield or backman in '07, was always going to be a ruck or a key forward.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Anyone who has Cotchin later than pick 2 is kidding themselves.

Kreuzer
Cotchin
Rioli
Dangerfield
Masten
Palmer
Morton
Otten
Ward
Grimes

In a heartbeat. By the length of Flemington Straight. Etc....

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

There is no way I would take Cotchin ahead of Dangerfield. Cotchin is a fantastic player, but Dangerfield (apart from having a really cool name) could be amongst the best mids in the league within the next 1 to 2 years. Picking Myers in the top ten .... aagghhh :( But Pears was a great selection.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Still very happy with our picks. Morton is developing into the type who can go up forward and kick goals or can play down back and shut down good players. He can also play on the wing and run all day.

Grimes was a steal at 14.

Out of all the players who were available with our picks Dangerfield for Morton would be the only one I'd entertain. Grimes will end up being in the top 5 players from the draft.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

you say richmond need a skillful midfielder and you have us skipping Cotchin.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Rioli has been very good but not number 1...

1. Carlton: Matthew Kruezer
2. Richmond: Trent Cotchin
3. West Coast: Cale Morton
4. Melbourne: Patrick Dangerfield

6. Essendon: Tayte Pears
7. Fremantle: Rhys Palmer
