2009 Expectations?

I would expect a consitent performance over the entire year. Pressure to be taken off Roo regarding winning-games-off-his-own-boot and expect him to be more of a CHF rather than a FF. I expect Kosi to play in the forward line and finally be given a consitent position. I expect us to be written off by commentators again at the beginning of the year. I expect a better performance against the top two of the Cats and the Dawks with a little more experience permeating the backline.

You know its going to be a long off-seasonn when were only half way through and we've already had about 15 threads about the upcoming season :p

Yeh not that long to go now.

I expect

A few new players to be blooded. Steven, Heyne..

Armo to continue to dissapoint.

Riewoldt AA CHF.

Top 8 finish.

Only thing I expect is more flogging from the media and, if Cousins make it on the park in a positive capacity doomsday scenarios for the Saints as they convienently forget to mention Collingwood and Brisbane until a passing sentence towards the end of the articles.

I'm expecting the midfield to get a fair go without Harvey. I want them to share the ball around as much as possible. I expect a good percentage and a healthy amount of goals getting kicked.

I also expect us to continue the tradition of the Carlton bashing. I don't want them to beat us ever!!

Just a few debuts. Maybe Steven, Heyne and Lynch.

Armo to become a gun.

BJ to win the brownlow.

Saints to contend with Hawks and Cats a little better than last time.

I'm expecting good debut seasons by Steven, Heyne and Lynch. Solid seasons by both Geary and Armitage who showed signs last year but were fairly inconsistent. Brendon Goddard to win the Saints 09 BnF. I believe he will challenge greatly for the Brownlow too if he follows his 08 form or even improves on it.

Hopefully we can have 5-6, 20+ goal kickers this season, if we manage that we will be in real contention for the flag. Riewoldt to improve his kicking straight consistency and end up with 70+, Milne to back up his 08 and kick 60+ again, Koschitzke stay injury free and hit career best form to get 45+ goals. Schneider for 25+, Armitage for 20+ and maybe a midfielder to step up and start kicking some goals like Bartel and Ablett. Maybe a Dal Santo, Montagna or Gram even.

It's a big ask but it's possible for sure. Especially if we play an attacking brand of footy.

Top 6 finish at least.
Kosi 2005 form.
Couple of Nab rising star noms for Steven, Heyne and Lynch.

That'll do me.

Top 4 finish

3 or 4 debuts: Lynch, Heyne, Cahill & possibly Stanley, but only with injury i think.

Rooey leading goalkicker (top 4 in the league somewhere)

Rooey to feature prodimnatly in the Brownlow Count

Tom Lynch Rising star winner.

.. to beat Collingwood
.. Tom Lynch to win the Coleman medal, Norm Smith, Rising Star, Brownlow and become a world leader!

.. Milne to kick his regulation 60 goals to shut all the people who give him a spray!

No one is mentioning McEvoy. Is he still on the list? I'd like to get a look at him at some stage this year.

He is, I think those who went to that Gold Coast thing came back and said he looked like he bulked up, so could be pushing for selection.

Macca's gonna take time. He is a ruckman after all.

Stanley would be no chance to debut unless King, gardiner, Blake, McEvoy and Milne all went down with injuries. He's a fairly long term prospect I believe. Or am I getting him mixed up with McGrath? Either way dont think theres much chance of him debuting.

But Macca, Stanley and McGrath. Wouldn't that be a decent ruck trio for the next 10 years.

Expectations are not as high as in previous years and this is a GOOD thing.

If we make top 4 to challenge, have minimal injuries, blood some young ones and see improvement in a number of players it wold be a good year.

Kosi injury free and back up his form, a fit midfield, we've got some speedsters now (Jones, Ray) and backline to stay away from injuries (Bakes and Maguire)

and i hope to see Rooey to take a screamer!, almost saw he take one against Collingwood and i hope that he tries it more often!

I'd be happy with 5 games from Lynch.

Would need to be playing very well to even crack that many with Lyon at the helm.

That may be so, but the TAE is where it's at. It's the shiz.
It'll pick up. I think.
Training resumes tomorrow. :)

Post-Xmas wish list:
  • Serious improvement from Armo, Macca, Gears, Gilbo and Jack. Macca needs a go up forward, Armo & Gears dropped off last year, and Gilbo struggled with recovery from injury (as did Dal).
  • Gardiner & X to show fans they are quality players. Also Farren Ray.
  • No more injuries for Bakes, Goose, Raph and Bally.
  • Similar outputs from the regulars (Roo, Lenny, Gram, Sam F, Blake, King, Max, Milne, BJ, CJ) and a little more from Dal, Monty and Schnieds.
  • Kosi to learn that he will be a better player by focusing on the team rather than trying to be the player he once was.
We need to improve a fair bit, as I think a few teams will be on the rise - Richmond, Carlton and Essendon (unfortunately) come to mind with their recruiting and list planning. I never rate Collingwood, Sydney or North but they are always thereabouts due to strong team ethics/workrate. The Dogs have a chunk of good experienced players and the Hawks and Cats obviously were standout performers.

2 more things for me...

McEvoy to continue development and push for a few senior games, even if he doesn't get them.

Dal Santo to have a massive year, his best yet.
