Not a betting person myself.

But surprised that our best 2009 Brownlow bet is paying $301.00 - 1

Also tied 2nd for most likely to win the Spoon (Melbourne favourties, tied with WCE)

Mark McVeigh [ESS] 301.00

We are also tipped to lose Round 1 to Port.
can't belive they are already out

On Betfair you can lay teams.

So if they have a wooden spoon market, you can lay any team.

operations such as betfair allow you to 'bet' both sides of an event, that is act as either the punter or bookmaker

so yes, if they have a 'win the spoon' market you can match bets from those fools silly enough to bet that essendon will achieve that most dubious of feats

Probably fair enough..lets be honest here who in our side is likely to win the Brownlow..McVeigh won't as he'll be suspended or injured or both..Myers is good value for the Rising Star though

Last year I had a bet with my mate that we wouldnt win the spoon, easiest $200 ever. Well not quite, actually getting the money will probably be the hardest part.

Am thinking of a smaller bet with him this year that we will finish above North, wonder if I can get 2-1 odds

Good idea but it's not as easy as you think. You have to get people to accept the bet. To do that you'd probably have to offer odds of 10/1. If your offer is taken up - say someone bets $200 - that means you have to have the payout - $2200 - sitting frozen in your Betfair account all season without you being able to touch it. Not a good scenario........

i am well aware of how betfair operates, as i said 'lay as much as can afford',

& btw there are several ways to get around the scenario you have described....
