Theres been alot of talk lately about our up and coming team and that 2012 is our year and i completly agree. with riemers myers gumbie and neagle and a bunch of other young guns i think this decade will be a big one for us. so i was wondering whats everyones predictions for the next decade for us. next big thing? brownlows? premierships? colemans? whats everyones thoughts?

Myers and Gumbleton have shown nothing yet to suggest they'll be great players. They are yet to even show enough to suggest they can play at this level.

Neagle has shown a bit but is a far way away in terms of fitness.

Reimers has shown the most but now needs to step up and start to become a really dangerous player consistently.

We are still an unknown quantity and if some of our players don't come on as expected we could spend the next 10 years down the bottom as GC and West Sydney come in.

We needed to nail the 06 and 07 drafts as we had good picks and needed to set ourselves up for another flag tilt. As yet it's not looking good but these kids have time and we are crossing our fingers they come good.... but so are about 15 other sides. ;)

...oh, adn 2000-2010 was supposed to be our decade after 00 when we were so dominant and had a great side.

Any sort of long term predictions are crazy as the competition is skewed towards unpredictability.

I had the impression that 2000 is when the 90's ends. Not when the naughties decade starts.

Thus, playing in a Grand final in 1990, winning a flag in 93, being the most dominant side in '99 and winning a flag in 2000...

I'd have to say the "90's" was technically a great decade for us. 2001-2010 was more of a disappointment, yet we still didn't do as bad as other sides in the competition and shrugged off a wooden spoon disaster.

2011-2020 is the "decade" the OP was referring to. And I agree, 2012-2013, we could be a steady chance.

If you were born on 01/01/1970 do you say you were born in the 60's?

The decade starts on 00 and ends on the last day or 09.

If the year is 2007 you are in the 8th year of the decade.

i didnt mean that we are going to dominate this next decade and win 5 flags i just wanted to know everyones thoughts on our young kids and if anyone thought some players were going to really stand up and play some good footy.and myers and gumbie were just some suggestions, whats everyones thoughts on hocking and lonergan? sorry again for sounding up myself.

I agree with the Frof, I see at least 3 or 4 Premierships in the next 10 years for us...and yes, maybe even 5. Couple of Brownlows as well.

Nothing wrong with being positive.

I think we are still an unknown quantity. I was hopeful Lonergan could do more than he did this year but I'm not sure he has what it takes to get to the next level. Hocking I'm more confident on now and I reckon he can really step into that solid A grade midfielder that's just below the elite group.

I reckon our premiership window is dependent on 3 or 4 players stepping up in the next year or two.

Can Hocking or Longergan go another gear?
Will Winderlich stay on the park and be acknowledged a star of the comp.
Can Zaharakis, Reimers, Houli fill the void of Lovett
Can Neagle and Gumbleton give us enough firepower up forward to scare sides?
Will Hille and Ryder become the premier Ruck duo?
Can we nail this draft and get a few more good kids before GC?

We are closing on the top few sides. As I said earlier we are still an unknown quantity. We need to aim for top 4 next year after making the 8 this year. If we can push for top 4 then we are on track. If not then we have a long way to go.

A lot of Essendon supporters suggested we won't make the 8 this year but would in the next year and the year after. The reality of our list suggests if we didn't make the 8 this year we would struggle to make it in the next 5.

another player is mcveigh, hopefully he can get his body right and be a really solid player over the next 4-5 years. and if monfries can get a good pre season under his belt there is no reason he cant kick 35-40 goals next year. kelvin, what are your thoughts on dempsey and do you think he can keep injury free and play very consistent footy.

I'm a big wrap on Dempsey. I'd like to think this year was the turning point injury wise and his body is now right to play AFL.

I'm calling it early but he'll be in our best 5 next year and finish top 5 B&F if he plays the same amount of games.

2010 = no excuses. Must start coming together and aim for top 4.

We people say "such and such" are going to kick 35-40 goals, they have to remember that players that kick that amount in a year are your Chapman's and Steve Johnson's.

It's a big ask for McVeigh to kick that many goals when he doesn't always play forward. Same goes for other players.

i said monfries could kick 35 - 40 goals. which is about 1.7 goals a game which i think is quite get able for monfries. provided he gets a good pre season under his belt.

and i reckon slatts and dyson could be the big improvers next year.

Wasn't directed at you, more the generally BF population that has players kicking a ridiculous amount of goals.

No, I should have made the first post clearer.

As for Monfries, kicking 35-40 would be a good effort, but it depends where he plays. With Williams, I can see Monfires being pushed further up the ground.

It's hard to say, I would have a better idea when we head into the NAB Cup and how player's pre-seasons have gone.

For me, it would be out of Neagle and Williams. Then there is Hille, Gumbleton and Monfries that could do anything.

yeah i think the nabcup will tellus alot about our younger players who havent played alot of footy, like myers and gumbie. and it should be good to see how forward line will function with neagle gumbie monfries and willo up there and with hille and ryder rotating through and i have alot of faith in our team and am excited bout where we are heading.

I'll be content if I knew that just one premiership was guaranteed in the next ten years.

The last thing I want is a draught that so many other clubs has had...

james_omahoney already called it.

thanx for the heads up whomb. what about prismall and hocking? coz i think with prizza havin a season to settle in hes good to go and hocking i hope can move up a gear.
