2010 Team & player threads

Hi guys,

I have been playing with the idea of putting together a few threads to get an idea of what we collectively feel should be the starting 22 for round 1 2010.

Rather than all of us put together an individual list of our starting 22 we would have a poll for each line open for approximately a week to vote on the 22 starting players in the following positions:

Backs
Half back
Centre
Half forward
Forward
Bench

We could also do a poll to see who we feel are just outside the team from the remaining players & they would obviously be listed as emergencies

The top three vote getters from each poll would fill that line & at the end we put together the definitive team base on our votes.

The Idea would be to do this after the draft’s to remove any confusion as to who would be selected & see how it matches up against round one 2010.

I know there are a few issues such as:

- What if everyone votes for the same player?
- What if more then 3 players qualify due to an equal number of votes?

To deal with these I guess we could have a vote off between the two or more players, remove the player who gets all the votes from consideration or make a post asking others not to vote for the player as he is already assured of certain selection.

Do you have any suggestions? Reasons it will or won’t work? & is this a good idea in the first place?

I know if it was planned for November I have brought it up a little early but I wanted to float the idea before the board gets a lot quieter during the off season.

Can we set the poll up so that we can vote for 3 players in each position. That way everyone will vote for the 3 players they think should be half back, centreline ext.

Some might vote for Grimes in the half back line, whilst others want him in the midfield set-up. With the votes split, he could miss out on both, creating a problem because I don't think anyone thinks he isn't in our best 22 somewhere.

This might be a good idea to consider & just leave the thread open a little longer to allow people to vote. But what I like about separate threads for FB & HBF is that players who may also be midfielders or wingman but have/do play back such as Morton & Grimes can be selected in a more accurate placement.

The way around this is if a player has spent time in different positions, has been touted as a multi positional player or can play in different positions (ie Brad Green forward, mid & HBF) then they would appear in more than one thread. These players could be listed in the OP of the thread that if they are not picked they will be put up for consideration in the next thread/poll.

There are from memory 20 place available in a poll so that also gives us scope to add the same players to a number of threads.

Players such as Warnock who would not play in another position outside the backline would only be selected for one position so if you want him in the team you need to vote for him there & then or wait until the Bench & Emergency threads are started.

Does this all make sense or am I making it too convoluted?

Maybe lock 10 or so in positions. Warnock, Frawley, Rivers down back for instance, and then let voting go around it. It's a good idea, I hope it works

Another way to settle which players go into which threads/polls is to have a poll where the players are listed twice, once for each position so they can be locked into that position. It will take a bit of work but will make it a bit easier long term.

To be honest this is something I have been thinking about but have not put in a lot of thought about the best system to use.

Players I can think of that can play in more than one position:

Davey: Mid & FWD
Morton: Wing & HBF
Sylvia: HFF & mid
Grimes: HBF & mid
Bate: Mid & FWD (I think only fwd though)
Dunn: FWD & mid
Martin: FWD, Back & ruck
Green: HFF, mid & HBF
Bruce: Mid & FWD

When we have a set list of multi positional players I will start a poll on them.


These are players set in position, so they would only qualify for one thread or to be selected on the bench or as emergencies:

Warnock: FB
Jurrah: HF
Frawley BP
Garland: HBF (but I have heard some talk about him as a forward)
Jamar: Ruck (can go forward but he is a ruckman)
PJ: Ruck
Meesen: Ruck
Spencer: Ruck
Jones: Mid
McDonald: Mid
Maric: FP
Wonaeamirri: FP
Miller: CHF (or gone)
Watts: Fwd (HFF or FP in 2010)
McLean: Mid
Moloney: Mid

Some of the younger players I don’t know if we can set them in one position but if they were recruited for a single purpose then they can be placed in the relevant category.

Please edit, make suggestions & add to the above lists as you see fit.

In my best 22 Bruce is on the half back flank, and Garland is CHF. It's an experiment with Garland so I could easily get him on the bench, and put someone else at CHF.

Are we making it a rule that there is no voting for Scully, Trengove etc.

We can start to do the polls now or wait until after draft time so that the picks are set in stone.

I guess its up to what everyone wants. This is still a work in progress so the more feedback & suggestions the better.

This was one of the ideas I had which is a good idea as we will be able to see how our views change over the next 4-6 months.

Maybe even do it at the start/during the NAB cup nex year.

Looking good mate. I just made my 22 for next year and I had about 30 players that I wanted to include! Very, very tricky.

Do it on either the Hell board, or the player thread board IMO.

Would look very cluttered mixed in with all the general MFC stuff here.

I would have Bartram and Bennell as options for the back pocket position as well Crimson.

I would agree but the purpose is to allow people to have the option of choice as he has played there.

In saying that I wouldn't expect him to be selected there.
