Yeah there's a good chance. I guess it depends on who plays in the AFL Granny. If it's a Collingwood Carlton/Geelong cracker, it could be big.

The Wallabies rugby union side couldnt even beat lowly Samoa yesterday and only got 30,000 to ANZ.

I dont think they will rate all that well in their WC if their form dosent rapidly improve.

Interesting that St Kilda V WCE rated 186,000 live on FTA in Perth on saturday night, yet rated 5th for the week on Pay TV.

Are you suggesting the ratings for the 9:30 games aren't horrible? They've got under 300k for the past 2 weeks. That's abominable for prime time.

Here's how Nine's second game went head-to-head where it showed:

18 Hustle ABC1 421,000 144,000 108,000 64,000 48,000 57,000
24 The First Wives Club Rpt Ten 342,000 93,000 114,000 60,000 37,000 39,000
34 Nine’s Friday Night Football Nine 279,000 177,000 *** 102,000 *** ***
43 M-State Of Play Seven 223,000 155,000 *** 69,000 *** ***
xx SBS World News SBS1 -- didn't make the top 50

So the ratings for the markets in which the NRL was screened were:
FNF - 279
State of Play - 224
Hustle - 208
First Wives - 153
SBS News - ???

As you can see, in both cities where Nine's second game played it won the ratings. AFL does pretty well, but we don't need to mis-represent NRL figures when they are actually winning in the markets where it is shown.

Still terrible ratings, winning that timelslot's nothing to write home about.
 
Last friday night was a poor night for NRL. The "live" game involved Auckland a team representing an area that is not even counted in TV ratings. Canterbury are lacking appeal to viewers at the moment as well. Having said that I would expect Dogs v Eels this friday to rate through the roof in Sydney.
As for the 9.30 game I think they will axe it for the next deal. Go with one game. Involving Brisbane when possible. We know by now who the teams are that rate well, it is only vaguely linked to how the team is performing. Parra always rate well on TV reagardless of form.

That's another reason why you wont get anywhere near what the AFL get in regards TV $, half of one of your 8 games every week has no audience.

I agree, the NRL should schedule Parramatta v Broncos every Friday night for every round. Would definitely ensure a ratings win.

Actually Distributor, Rugby League gets money from NZ TV. Or that is FOX do. Auckland (together with the other regional teams) should not be shown on free to air. That is all.
Mr Football adds to a good point made by me.
If Brisbane, Parra, Dogs, St George, Tigers, Souths or Manly are involved in the one friday night game the game will rate above 550k. If any of the above play against each other it will rate above 700k.
The second friday game should be shifted to Saturday arvo simulcast with FOX.

Naaa, Parra are shit and the Broncos are full of cane toads, I reckon both states should get the Storm vs Warriors every week, bound to rate through the roof, esp when it's delayed 2.30 hours from eNZed :thumbsu:
