Simon Buckley should be no. 1 on all the lists. He was emergency for more than 10 games last season. He should break through in 2011.

Malthouse also likes to gives players an opportunity at senior level that he recruited from other clubs. Even Corrie got a couple of games to show what he can do.

Simon Buckley has already debuted - for Melbourne. If you mean debut for the club, then surely A Krakouer should be number 1 on all lists instead of S Buckley.

Saw the Pies VFL team on a couple of occasions (once live), interesting to note that Josh Thomas began the year (2010) essentially as what Luke Rounds plays permanently, then did well and moved on.

Would this not mean that he would get first shot?

I think that Thomas is more likely to get a senior gig first, personal opinion of course.

Of the first year players, Fasolo should later in the year having already made the transition from U/19 to senior footy pretty well.

I think Rounds is more likely to debut for a couple of reasons. One is that Rounds has been played as a small forward and with question marks over Macaffers fitness probably has more chance of an opening in the side. Thomas is more of a midfielder. Rounds has also been named as an emergency and has an extra preseason under his belt. Thomas will be in contention though.

The above would be my logic, not to say Thomas isn't a chance for a game in 2011 but our midfield is much deeper and has much more competition for spots. Guys like Sidey and Beams will be able to fill a gap in the midfield in the event of an injury to a midfielder. Krak will be added to the midfield rotations, Blair who may be pushed out of the side for Krak will be again competiting for a midfield spot. McCarthy if fit will be in contention. On last years form Rounds would be the first choice for a spot as a foward.

rounds will debut early. it was apparently a toss of the coin whether he or blair got the nod that night against the eagles last year. blair got the nod and the rest is history

buckley will make his pies debut for sure too. he is a bloody good player. would have played alot of senior footy at any other club in 2010

There was only one reason why Buckley didn't play a game for us last year, and that was his "off field problems" that he had mid year, including the keying of his ex girlfriends car.:o:eek:

If he gets on the "straight and narrow" he will be an emergency most weeks IMO, if not playing in the first 5-6 rounds.

I think if 2010 is anything to go by, Mick will really try and rotate up to 30-32 players through the side, as early as he can, as last year we didn't really "get going" before the mid year point, when we were still unsettled in terms of our best 22-25 lineup.

Mick and the coaching staff will want to try as many players out early, so that when that mid season break comes around (in our case the round 13 bye) we are almost "settled" and we know what our best 22-25 is barring injuries/suspensions etc as we approach the finals to defend our crown.

In order of likelihood to debut, I would suggest it is as follows

1. Luke Rounds. Was very close last year (emergency a number of times). Very strong chance to play early, depending on form.
2. Lachlan Keefe. Is now our next cab off the rank for a key defensive position, and has versatility for stints in the ruck (and maybe forward).
3. Josh Thomas. Seems to have some fans down at the club. May be tough as he seems to be a pure midfielder and the queue is quite long.
4. Tom Young. Won our best VFL player, which suggests he is around the mark.
5. Alex Fasolo. Wouldn't expect to see a first year kid, especially a mid/forward given our abundance of mid/forwards, but may be a chance.

I wouldn't think there would realistically be anyone else in contention.

Bump.

Very, very close.

If Sinclair has an injury free season I think he will debut ahead of Thomas.
All at the club rate him highly and judging by the end of season player reviews he is in their thought process.

Agree we will need to debut 4-5 players at various stages next season and the sub rule helps with that given that a younger player can either be subed in or out.

Good Call.

Realistically i think our debutantes will be (aside from Krak and Taz):
1. Rounds
2. Young
3. Buckley
4. Josh Thomas
5. Fasolo
6. Sinclair
7. Keefe

Could be spot on if Thomas somehow debuts this week.
