2011 Emirates Melbourne Cup......nominations

Ive been through Racing Victorias Melb Cup conditions doc and yesterdays run does qualify Bauer under the Melb Cup conditions. It puts him into the position in the pecking order where Seth listed him earlier. Still well down the order...
Yeah, I just found the page then, he passed the first (and really only) ballot clause by placing yesterday.

Still needs a ton of luck to get in the field, but he is eligible now, but I still say the committee will have to use it's discretionary powers to get him in, I can't see him being in the top 30, let alone the top 24 by Tuesday week.

VRC changed the discretionary powers for the 150th Cup last year.
They cant elevate a horse out of balloting order so that wont help Bauer unless he's number 25.

As it stands right now, Bauer is number 41 in the order of entry.

However, with a number of queries above him, it is still possible that he will attempt to avenge his second placing in 2008 and his late scratching last year.

Descarado confirmed out.

Master O is retired.

December Draw confirmed out.

Praecido unlikely.

Hawk Island definitely running.

If Lion Tamer of Glass Harmonium struggle in the Cox I'd doubt they'll run.

Will get perilously close to getting in I think but get the feeling it will do a Richmond.

Short of a disaster,Lion Tamer is a certainty to run,MC has been his aim from day 1
2nd acceptances are Monday at midday so that will clarify a few doubtfuls

Seth.... tell me... do any under the table deals go on at this time of year?? Say a horse e.g. Master O Rielly (no hope) qualifies as the 24th horse... and Bauer is 25th.... do the connections approach and offer $$ for them to withdraw there horse...???

If a horse is completely out of form, the VRC may elevate the next in line.

Dont really know but I do remember a few years ago there was talk about connections of a horse who was outside the C Cup 18 buying one of the horses in the field so they could scratch.
Cant remember the horse, may have been Count Chivas who was in the field but really struggling.....didnt happen but offers were apparently made

So Americain is back, clear fave & rightly so.
He has acceleration that sets him apart, even with 58kg

A few will meet him better at the weights but theyll need every kilo
Illo was good but he looks one paced.
Tullamore may still need to win the Lexus & couldnt possibly win on that run

Seth... How does Bauer stand after today's races?? I think he's a big step closer now

He is still relying on few to drop out, have a feeling MRC will use their discretion powers and promote him.

Seth... How does Bauer stand after today's races?? I think he's a big step closer now

Only change from today is that Lion Tamer wont be there so every horse moves up 1 spot.
Americain & Illo already in,placing doesnt really help Tullamore although Ive got him 24th & Bauer 28th.

There must be a doubt on Glass Harmonium after today but the Lexus winner will go straight in so Bauer still needs some natural attrition by my count.

Heres the latest OOE updated after Geelong

Godolphin have decided on their MC riders.

Kerrin will ride Modun & William Buick will ride Lost In The Moment so no Frankie this year.
Buick is a young guy who from memory is John Gosden's stable hoop.
Quick look shows at 22 hes already won a St Leger & Arlington Million in the US

No surprise here for me,Modun hasnt run for Godolphin so no prior connection
Buick rode LITM when he just missed in the Goodwood Cup over 3200m

More jockey news:

Luke Nolen has jumped off Illo & onto Shamrocker???

De Sousa is staying in the UK so a local jock will ride Fox Hunt
Oh the irony if a local wins on one of Mark Johnstons.
