Lots of posts about the kids either looking good, (Foley, Pattison) and others needing to take a step now (Lids, Tambling etc...)
Here in no particular order are the ages of some key Tiger Cubs:

Deledio - 20 (19 at start of the season)
Tambling - 20
Pattison - 21 (Turned 21 early 2007)
Thursfield - 21 (Turned 21 early 2007)
Raines - 21 (Turned 21 early 2007)
Polo - 20
JON - 19 (was 18 in early 2007)
White - 20 (was 19 in early 2007)
Hughes - 20
Edwards - 18 (not 19 until Oct)
Foley - 21 (will be all season)
Jackson - 21 (was 20 in early 2007)
McGuane - 20 (was 19 in early 2007)
Jack Riewoldt - 18 (will be all season)

Thats 14 guys out of a starting 18, average age = exactly 20.
Some may not last a couple of years but in essence this is our core group of next premiership players who will have an average age of 24 by season 2011.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves with expectations but if this group can stay pretty much together and continue to develop... I'm pretty happy! :D

Not a bad list at all. Put into that another 4 youngsters, stock it up with some muscle, looks good.

Of all those there while they're still developing only Foley has shown the ability to really take a game on. The rest are still really only bit part players and whilst this is acceptable in such a young team in the next year or so they're really going to have to step up. Of the ones mentioned above I am most concerned about JON his decision making in the VFL is absolutely insipid and borders on stupidity at times, the problem being whilst a skiny kid is easy to fix, lock them in the gym a dumb decision maker is much more difficult. Realistically they all need time but needless to say I'm a lot more realistic about the future and we really need to add some solid midfield depth before that side will go anywhere.

without wanting to be a kill joy but at lest 6 of that list may not even be there come 2011

Looking at it now, I'd say that the 2011 speech from TW was ahead of it's time.

He had the foresight to come out and state when we would start to seriously challenge.

Considering the improvement this year, I reckon that 2011 is about the time we'll be pushing for the Top4

A blind Mongolian would have picked cotchin.

Maybe, but they still got him.
Some brilliant researching of the available talent resulted in recruiting a quality kid.

I'd be disappointed if he didn't start providing the same run and carry that Tambling is currently giving us

The spindoctor fan club is increasing

Cept he's not a spin doctor.
He honestly said what he was going to do, everyone bought it at the time. He's stuck by what he said he would do
But everyone else has lost their nerve, not him.
It's so simple but no-one can comprehend.
To turn over a list takes about five years
From then on we should be competitive.
How hard is it

I'm pretty excited about Free's appointment.
Miller needed some assiatance, and was struggling to fully cover all the roles.

Great things happening at Richmond now

Love Freezer but does he really have a handle on all the stuff he needs to know about? Hope so. I do know he makes a mean smoothie at Greensborough Shopping Centre. Wonder if he can provide free B.U.M gear (remember that sportsgear biz he ran?) for the whole list.

Thanks to our poor recruiting 2004-2005 it will take longer. Not to mention not trading for more picks and upgrading our picks. And trading our picks for players. And not taking enough picks 2005 & 2007.

Yeah, and thanks for Meyer as well.

And Polak.

And Kingsley. Man did he kick a lot of goals for us last year

How's Jon going?

Brilliant piece of researching that was.

You smell of pork. Keep it on the RFC site Greenberg

Shut up Beaver you negative nancy. Wallace and Miller did everything right. We are exactly where we want to be. It takes five years to turn over a list: just look at how Malthouse took Collingwood from wooden spoon rabble in 1999 to grand finalists in 2002 and 2003. Where did they finish in his fifth year, huh? Huh?? See.;)

With the depth of players they had on their list, maybe that's all it was going to take. With us it was going to take five. That's what Terry asked for, that's what he got, that's what most of us agreed woopeee, that's right, it'll take that long to change us around. And then everyone got scared

Exactly.

Why is everyone now so impatient?
We all agreed that Frawley wrecked our list.

Did we seriously expect it to turn around in under 5 years?

Why are people here suggesting it will take 5 years for the list to be fixed. It will take much much longer thanks to our recruiting 2004-2005 and lack of recruiting 2007.

ok, well that being the case, what value is there in sacking TW?

Let him build the list and see if he can continue to progress it

I was a TW supporter all through the first 3 years, but the McMahon trade was just too much. If he seriously thinks our list needs more of this type of player then I have grave concerns of where the list is heading.

Hawks had a great nucleous of good players ready to take on the world back in 2005:

Campbell Brown
Clark
Crawford
Croad
Hodge
Mitchell
Osborne
Williams
Sewell

and a few others

On our list now who were around then were

Brown
Richo
Coughlan - injured since then
Hyde - everyone agrees doesn't make the grade
Jackson - reservations still - has done very little
Moore - seems to be coming of age this year but taken a long time
Newman - solid but not a great player
Pettifer - see Hyde
Raines - see Hyde
Schultz - see Hyde
Tuck - god knows

An unequal playing ground to compare the two clubs' development.

I recall many of us here were happy at the time when we secured McMahon.

And Polak for that matter.

Yes, in hindsight we did pay too much for McMahon, but I'm sure he can turn it around, and provide some real value.

Topping up is always a gamble.
Eg, Akermanis. It was looking like a bad trade for the doggies last year, but look at his form now
