2011 NAB Cup.

Why do always get stuck playing Port Power in the preseason. Those games cheapen the Showdowns. We could have had at least one team with crowd drawing ability in our group.
Apart from the above I like the changes.

Spot on, even if United were bottom I still wouldnt miss a Melbourne game for anything, especially considering its at AO and we are flying this year.

Didnt go to the NAB cup this year, wont be going next year. Might get 4 people there.

Just like a Port Power game?

I guess if the Clubs are concerned about injuries as a result of cooling down then having to play again, you could always play two squads. That way ALL of your players get a run pre-season. Could work.

I like that idea

But you might need a few to back up due to injuries etc

Just stick em on bikes for 20 mins during the break, they will be fine.

Should be fine yes, but Phil Harper came out and said in the Australian today that they're concerned about the gap. They are pleased though that they are home and have their training facilities to use.

I'm not sure being on the bike for an extended period of time is the right idea though, uses quite different muscle groups to running around. I'd much prefer them and I'm sure they will be, to be just have a light kick/jog around the new indoor training facility, maybe on the bikes for 5 minutes at a time, but nothing more. We should be right, but I'd just prefer not be taking such a risk.

The problem with this new format of 3 teams playing shortened games on the one night is that there are 2 winners and 1 loser before the games even start.

The team that plays 1st and 2nd is playing a normal game, as is the team playing 2nd and 3rd.

The bunny is the team playing 1st and 3rd, i.e. Adelaide, for 2 reasons.

The major one is injury. Players will have cooled down and muscles tightened to some degree making them more vulnerable to injury in that last game.

Secondly, the team that played in the 2nd game, will be playing a normal game, and could well jump the team that's stiffened up somewhat over the whole 2nd game break.

It's undoubtedly an idea of the clown prince of the AFL, Adrian Anderson, who struggles to produce any thing or idea that's not flawed to some degree.

Yeah, I'm undecided which club is favoured by this, depends on how extended rest affects the side playing in the 1st and 3rd games. It could be that the extended rest has them nice and fresh, and the otherside, having just played a match will be more fatigued. But then as you say, the side having the extended rest may have gotten cold and could quite easily be jumped by the other side as they try to readjust to the tempo of the game. The only truely "even" match will most certainly be the 1st game, one side will be disadvantaged in each of the following matches, the interesting part will be which.

The 'Who Cares' Cup is back, in a new format, but nobody will care.

Anything prior to round 1, is practice and not worth being overly concerned about.

Friday February 11 - Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory (Adelaide Oval) - New Grandstand to be opened.

Fabulous programming AFL, there will be nobody at West Lakes!
Wow, that is actually really embarrassing on the AFL's behalf:o.

According to them on Twitter they were aware of it but there were no other venues available at that time of the year.

Yeah cos AAMI has a jam-packed schedule in February!
Understandable, but still, I'm only expecting a crowd of about 8,000. There might be more numbers due to the new format and the fact you are essentially seeing three games for the price of one ticket.

Here is my suggested schedule for the night:

7:15pm Adelaide Crows vs Melbourne
8:20pm BAR
9:25pm Adelaide Crows vs Port Adelaide

Pretty sure that will be my schedule as well

There is one crowd drawing club in the group... us

I just want the Crows to give it a red hot go...

Want some silverware - even if it is just preseason.

Also - is it a possibility, in order to try and avoid injury, to play 2 different sides in the two matches?

I suggested that earlier in this thread. It will be interesting to see how many they can have in their squad.

At least that game starts at 4:45pm (i think/hope) and one could run out of AO as soon as it finishes and make a very quick drive down to Footy Park and maybe just get inside by 7:15pm for the 1st game there too

Why would a game on Friday start at 4:45pm. I know the FFA are dumb but surely they're not that dumb.

I swear i read that somewhere because i thought the same as you and then went to make sure it was Friday - not Saturday - anyway i hope it is 4:45 because then i can go to both.

Perhaps it was 4:45pm so that Melb Victory can hop on a plane on Friday night back to Melb?

I'm sure that someone will confirm the times

That would've been Rucci pulling the wool over your eyes!

I posted this yesterday in the Roasting Rucci thread:

Our good friend Michelangelo Rucci has written a small article in The Advertiser today about the clash between the codes and the shortened format of the NAB Cup.

However he gets it horribly wrong saying the Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory game kicks off at 4:45pm.

The epic evening of football will start at 4.45pm with an A-league grudge match for championship points between Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory across 45-minute halves at Adelaide Oval.

Shortly after the final whistle, the Crows will open the new-look NAB Cup pre-season competition at 7.15pm by hosting Melbourne at AAMI Stadium.

Is the guy delusional? The A-League game starts at 7:30pm according to the Reds' website, the A-League website, and Ticketek.

How can you print such misinformation in a newspaper? :thumbsd::thumbsd:

I would love to be able to go to both too. Thankfully it's a few months away and I can worry about making a decision then.

OK - found it - my source was Rucci :D

I'm never reading The Advertiser again :thumbsu:
havn't we all said that at 1 time or another, only reason we go back is due to the local monopoly it holds

I know I say I wont read it again, but I'll read 1 article somewhere linked via BigFooty and I'm annoyed and know why I avoid it, but I just want to see what the fuss is about

now, the reason why I came here in the first place

I dont know what I'll do, I probably wont give a shit about the Melbourne vs Port Adelaide game, so may not bother going full stop
I'm not really a fan of wasting myself for a few minutes there, especially if I'm not a real large consumer of alcohol

My schedule will be 1 of 2 things
1) stay at home with
7:15-~8:15 channel 7 (Adelaide vs Melbourne)
~8:15-9:24 Fox Sports (Adelaide vs Melbourne)
9:25-~10:25 channel 7 (Adelaide vs Port Adelaide)

2) work

Don't be surprised if the games are exclusively on Fox Sports (our NAB Cup games don't have to be televised on FTA channels). Also, Fox Sports would be showing the games live so you won't be watching the Adelaide v Melbourne game on Fox Sports at 8:15pm.
