Re: Win a date with Megan Gale or Rebecca Judd

Keep in mind I don't claim to know what a majority prefer, past or present, I am just raising the point. People are going to make the threads regardless, and others will post in them. Shouldn't be any reason to shut them down...

Usually there's the pre-match discussion then often another thread is started when the teams are announced. Often someone will say there's no need to start this thread but the majority will come back and defend the thread being open because they just have to open the first page to find the info they want rather than scrolling through an entire thread. Personally I don't care but if it's what works for people well there's plenty of room on the first page for a few threads and if they're no use they'll just fall off the page.

Re: Win a date with Megan Gale or Rebecca Judd

I think you are reading too much into this

Just replying to what is being written.

Going by the majority is well and good, but that depends on if the majority want something that goes against how the admins want BF to run

Which is why I said within reason. This is hardly a case of going against what the admins want however...

Let's just wait and see how it plays out

Fair enough.

Ha, sorry Harker. I consider you collateral damage. If I had the real title, it would be you and few others who came in. We usually have a poor turnout for this sort of thing.

Happy to take one preview off one of the others that have two. Will consult first. It's not as though everyone can't write a preview for whatever match they like anyway. One will just be the official board preview.

I know you're right, you shifty dog you. ;)
To date no one have put their hands up for the Grand Final, so in any event I'll take that one.

EDIT: Grand Final has been taken. I'll take the repeat Grand Final, then. :)

ODN, I mentioned this last year but are these key type threads able to be stickied for the week rather than left to float up and down?
The thread then assumes a position of strength and when it's all said and done, it is the football we are largely here for.

Will see what we can do. BF has a sticky policy where they usually only want about 3 stickied threads or else the page is taken up with them. This is largely to avoid dead threads and rules threads etc clogging up the top of the board but I see no issue with a current thread being stickied each week.

We will just tidy up the others as the season gets closer.

I think if you are going to have an official preview thread for each game, then it makes sense that all pre-game discussions go in there. There's nothing stopping the OP (if they're taking the task seriously) from editing the teams into the OP when they come out.

The match-day thread seems to be a popular thing, but I never see them cos I'm at the game :)

Then a post mortem thread makes sense.

3 threads per game wouldn't seem to be too excessive and the flow of conversation for each is distinctly different. But I'm with others, too many threads and you find yourself wanting to say the same thing in several threads, or people have to start linking to their own posts in other threads. It gets tedious.

Hey ODN, would it be worth locking threads at appropriate points? You know, lock the preview thread once the game starts and then lock the match-day thread when the game is over (or thereabouts) and then lock the post-match thread when the new preview thread is up.

I wonder if this would help keep the threads coherent in terms of conversational flow?

I would prefer one thread, but not sure whether its really feasible or practical. Don't really feel strongly about it, so whatever is decided, I will be happy with.
Looking forward to doing a review.

We all know there to be a:

1. Pre Match conversation thread
2. Gameday thread
3. Post match review thread

They do really serve very different and defined purposes and seem to engage more banter and activity within such threads.
Some of pre-match threads can account for up to several hundred posts and in the case of Richmond, we hit 3,000 posts.
Our game day threads can also run into the hundreds at times and the Post match reviews have hit upwards of 500 posts at times last year.
Pool them altogether and the interest in engaging in the same thread seems to diminish somewhat.

Of course we then splinter off into roasts and toasts on a weekly basis also, which do occupy quite a bit of space but such is the interest in this little team named Carlton. :)

Re: Win a date with Megan Gale or Rebecca Judd

We are looking for all previewers to start a thread for their respective previews prior to the week they are previewing, whether that be now or at the time. If you do so in our Buddy Draft forum, we will then lock it, store it and wheel it out immediately after the previous week's game so it will be ready for when the preview goes up.

HBF is up for Round 2 ... but you can't trust mods to get anything done on time.

Re: Win a date with Megan Gale or Rebecca Judd

cannot wait to see how this board behaves tomorrow regardless of the reult
mods will be busy regardless

Although these previews are a great idea, especially in the OP of the preview thread, why are we waiting for them to be submitted before discussing the next game?

HBF has made a round 2 preview thread, and can update the OP whenever he completes his preview. There is no reason to hold of discussion for his preview.

Some people are not going to submit the preview until late the following week, so we're hardly going to always wait for the preview before discussing the next match.

Our next game is Round 2 - I want to see it being discussed, not waiting for a poster to get around to submitting a preview.

11. PORT ADELAIDE - Claypigeon
12. BRISBANE LIONS - Claypigeon

Anyone mind if I put the Brisvegas review together at the same time as the Port preview and just PM it to someone early? ..

Problem is I'm going to be flying over for the Port game and then I'm on holidays for a week afterward. .. Ironically I will be in Brisbane while they are in Melbourne playing us :)

Mmmm week by week I'd prefer. Whose to say your Brisbane game will keep you in the 22? Don't count your chickens before your eggs and throw them all into one bag. :D

hehe. .. I've had a bit of a rethink. .. I'll do a draft and email it to someone, as a precautionary measure. .. I should have time Monday morning (after the Port game) in the airport to post it up, if people can wait til the next morning. .. ;)

BTW I'll try and post the Port one ASAP after the previous match, I'd prefer to be the OP in case I want to edit in some details :)

Once the selected teams have been posted in the preview thread can the mods please edit the title to say what page it's on? We're getting pretty big threads now and it can take ages to find the teams list.

Once they are listed I'll quote it at the end of the opening post if you like?

Yeah, but you don't do the preview every week. Better for the mods to just edit the title.

True. ..

I'll edit it in over the next couple of weeks though. .. I might use the second post in the thread to list actuals. .. like the selected teams, Ratts pre-game interview, etc. ..

BTW any feedback on the Port/Carlton preview, so far, is appreciated, I know its not complete with the ladder and stuff missing as yet but its mostly done. .. I'll try and improve on it against the Lions, at least that one I'll be able to do all of it after the final game of the round (which is obviously ours). ..
