We've already had sledge of the year....at the Eastern Creek test session Dick Johnson racing had their numbers on the door (as they usually have), numbers 17 and 18 (number 1 goes to the drivers champion). Cars roll up to the Creek, and DJR have this on the door to signify that they were the champions team from 2010.....

They have since been ordered to fill the 8 in.

Race 1

1 - Whincup
2 - Alex Davison
3 - Frosty
4 - Van Gisbergen
5 - Slade
6 - GT
7 - Lowndes
8 - Coulthrd
9 - Holdsworth
10 - T Kelly

26th - James Courtney

Note to Will Davison - when you're sliding backwards it's best NOT to lift off the brake and spin back INTO traffic !!!!!....dipstick

Courtney has been penalised 50 points for belting Bargwanna, Moffat also penalised 25 points possibly for punting Karl Reindler into the fence. Not 100% that they are the reasons for the penalties but that's all I can think of.

Race 2 had it all. Fuel strategies going down to the wire, not sure how Courtney managed his, Winterbottom gets a drive through for ducking into the pits late and crossing the line, plenty of argy bargy. Not sure what Will Davison was doing coming back on to the track in front of Holdsworth like that. A great late chase by Bright and BJR looks like getting their first win with a superb pass but Courtney responds quickly with some brilliance of his own. Now that was racing.

Whincup belted Bargwanna in race 2 as well, but I believe someone else came up the inside of Whincup to make it 3 wide and Whincup had nowhere to go. Didn't cop the penalty that Winterbottom's crew were hoping for at any rate.

Agreed, the fight between Courtney & Bright was brilliant racing!

Clipsal is on next week (me going ) and its great to see them have the Royal Flying Doctor Service as their offical Charity:D:thumbsu:

Alot of news going around a bit....good artical on the sale of V8's...
http://www.speedcafe.com.au/2011/03/08/v8-supercars-sale-of-the-century-imminent/

Fujitsu is looking like it will have 27-30 Cars on the grid - pretty healthy if you ask me - like a better coverage of it though!
http://v8supercars.com/fujitsuseries/teamsanddrivers/tabid/94/default.aspx

It doesnt mention the 999 Sonic Bob Jane/Supercheap Auto car will be driven by Jack Perkins (YES!) and we are not sure who will drive for Jay Motorsport

Skafey will be driving in the Carerra Cup and Kelly Racing and DJR still sorting out their drivers for the enduros...Speaking of Kelly's, Todd will notch up race 150 (congrats Todd)

And saving the best news till last....
http://www.speedcafe.com.au/2011/03/10/jason-richards-set-for-early-race-return/

V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards will make an early return to the driver’s seat at the Clipsal 500, competing in a Ferrari in the opening round of the VodkaO Australian GT Championship.

Richards will co-drive a Maranello Motorsport-prepared Ferrari 430 GT3s at the famous Adelaide street circuit.

The VodkaO Australian GT Championship holds three two-driver events throughout the year – the Adelaide street track (Round 1), Eastern Creek (Round 3) and Phillip Island (Round 5).

The New Zealand star driver was sidelined from his regular V8 duties at the end of last year’s V8 championship due to cancer treatment.
Richards has driven a V8 Supercar on two occasions since withdrawing from this year’s title, testing at the pre-season test at Eastern Creek in January and enjoying some more seat time at Winton on Monday.

Richards will confirm his debut in the Australian GT Championship in a special press announcemnet at Mark Coffey’s Maranello Motorsport shop in Richmond, Victoria tomorrow morning.

Clipsal this weekend for the 3rd and 4th races of this years main series and the opener for the Tubby Taylor Trophy (Fujitsu Series for the un-educated). Andrew Thompson won the first race in the TTT, driving a Triple 8 Commodore as he's partnering Whincup (fastest in practice for the 500 today) in the major enduros (Lowndes and Skaife are still together in the other car). Jason Richards was 12th in his return to a V8, although his co-drive in the Ferrari wasn't as successful when he went out after 15 laps.

Combined practice times today for the 500 saw the following order

Whincup 1:21.8052
Frosty 1:21.8122
Lowndes
Tander (fastest in P3, outside the top 10 in P4)
Todd Kelly
Rick Kelly
Dumbrell (fastest in early sessions for outside top 15 and rookies)
D'Alberto (first drive in a Falcon since very early days in the TTT)
Will Davo
SVG
Johnson (chief engineer for this team died in the recent past)
Slade
Holdsworth
Ingall
Reynolds
Webb
Bargs (has new backing on front bonnet and windscreen strip)
Reindler
Courtney (struggled all weekend)
Owen
Moffat
Bright (setup changes for P4 made the car even slower)
Alex Davo
Murph
D.Fiore (brother racing in TTT)
Caruso
Coulthard
Luff

Tander wins from Whincup
J Moffatt wins " spud of the day " for his unassisted spin at the slowest corner on the track.
Russell Ingall - Worst....start....to...a....season....EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a cracking start to the season - as a Holden Girl I couldnt be happier....I think GT will give James a serious run for his money personally

Shame we have to wait an extra week to watch the replay of the Fujitsu race rather than watching it live - wouldnt of though in my wildest dreams that Jason Richards would take out race 2. Gotta be up there as one of the best drives in touring car history!

Onto Hamilton now - cant wait! Personally if they are going to go ouside Australia it should be with more NZ races then going to singapore or abu dabi!

One thing is for sure, forget Courtney winning the title until he does well on a Saturday.

Of course, before Hamilton they're running at the GP meeting with their own pit area (which looks pretty cramped). They've scrapped the Red vs Blue format AFAIK, and Jason Richards is running for Bargwanna. ONE has exclusive coverage of the races if you can put up with Greg Rust for a weekend.

Well , who could have expected a finale like that after the series looked over at the halfway point of the season ???

Ch7 would've wet themselves after the saturday race...i mean , what better opportunity to cram EVEN MORE ads in on the sunday

As much as i wish he'd just piss off to America , props for JW to not shit himself when he was 18th near the end...the guy can drive.
Props to Lowndsey too for not giving up all season.
