Yes it was certainly the case. Back to the old cliche 'money speaks all languages.' They should have been told that if their submission was not able to meet the deadlines, they would not be considered to host the tournament. Pusillanimous body the ICC though.

What an absolute f*cking joke.....:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

it may very well be organised better but the sepctacle would be NO WHERE NEAR as good!
LOL, you know nothing, rose colured glasses off please, the spectacle would be infinite times better here then there.
Their is nothing that would make it any better over their

Basing this on what?

Have you been to India or the subcontinent?

I have and I'd rather watch a ODI in India than Australia live. Much better atmosphere and many less yobbos.

It all comes down to money in the end. The fact is the ICC would struggle financially without the Sub-Continent. They bring in the majority of the money the ICC makes. It's only fair that they should get the World Cup more often than every 20 years.

So you haven't been to a game on the subcontinent?

Is your opinion based on first hand experience or what you've seen on TV?

If the crowds are so good, why are there cages built to seperate them from the players?

I don't recall an Australian crowd ever rioting and setting fire to a stand when a decision didn't go their way?

Because the ICC allowed the Indians to buy votes.

Oi, that is copyrighted to me! ;)

Go my creation!!

U cant have evry world cup there but u cant realistically have a situation where the the Subcontinent has the world cup every 20 years or something...that would be a financial disaster for the ICC...

Its like the Soccer world cup, europe will haev every third one or something, like the american superbowl, like any major sporting event...
True, there's nothing more thrilling and spectacular than teams having to forfeit games due to security issues. And of course when the games DO get played the riots and stands being burnt to the ground only add to absorbing atmosphere!

I dunno mate, I guess he's probably basing it on the fact (FACT) that Australia hasn't had any games cancelled due to terrorism issues, and the fact (FACT) that our grounds don't have huge fences with barbed wire on them to stop the fans rioting and getting on the ground.

So what games have there been riots in the ground with the stand burning down. From memory I can only remember that one world cup game where it was called off before the end of the game because of crowd behavior.

Crowd behavior is not anywhere near as bad on the sub continent as some of you make out it to be.

Games have been stopped for problems in all countries. I remember a game in the WI when a player got run out and a riot occured and the Australian captain recalled the batsman (it was one of the recent tours).

Anyway, this is the only match I think called off for crowd problems.

ODI # 1081
Wills World Cup, 1995/96, 1st Semi Final
India v Sri Lanka
Eden Gardens, Calcutta (day/night)
13 March 1996 (50-over match)
Result: Sri Lanka won by default
Sri Lanka advances to the final

At the fall of the 8th Indian wicket, sections of the crowd vented their disgust with the state of the match by setting fire to some areas of the stands and throwing fruit and waterbottles onto the field. The match was briefly stopped and when play was about to resume, the crowd again threw bottles at the deep fielders. The match referee stopped the game and the game was awarded to Sri Lanka by default.
