Boyd vs Selwood

The first picked player for both respective teams, Boyd was top 5 in the AFL for disposals and clearances in 2011 while Selwood has just been named captain of one of the greatest sides of all time. These two will have a big say in who wins the midfield battle in this match.

I am going to be no help with this one. Can not split the teams no matter which way I look at it. Have CATB marginally infront but his 1st ruck doesnt fill me with confidence for the 2012 season as Kerr is very injury prone and Black is nearing retirement.... DRAW:thumbsu:

Kristof's players named first... CATB's players named second.

Gunston/Lynch/N. Riewoldt vs Glass/A. Johnson/E. MacKenzie
Can't split these. Glass vs Riewoldt is an even battle, as is Lynch vs MacKenzie. Two talented youngsters as 3rd talls... no clear winner for mine.

Stanley/Sylvia/O'Keefe vs Harbrow/B. Johnson/Hanley
First points to Kristof! One of the strengths of his line up. Harbrow is handy, Hanley had a pretty good 2011, but I don't think CATB has the quality to cover this trio.

Shiels/Pearce vs D. Swallow/J. McKenzie
Wowser... another tight one. I'm going to have to lean towards CATB here though. Swallow and Jordie are both players on the up. Big 2012's coming up. Pearce had an average 2011 and I don't know if he has the toughness/grit to turn things around.

Boyd/Redden/Ball vs J. Selwood/Black/Kerr
Some quality here. I'm going to lean towards Kristof though. JSelwood is obviously the jewel in the crown but Boyd is in his prime, Redden not far off and Ball a proven big game performer. Black and Kerr... best is probably behind them.

Ebert/Shaw/Ellis vs Prestia/Harvey/Betts
A couple of killer blows here from CATB. The Harvey/Betts combo is dripping with quality. I think Harvey will spend more and more time forward now that his career is winding down. I wouldn't mind having a wager on him winning NM's goalkicking this year. Too quick, too classy... CATB.

Fisher/A. Carlile/Chaplin vs Brown/Podsiadly/J. Carlisle
Very tough to split this group. I think Carlile and Chaplin are quality but they had poor 2011's. Brown was injured and Podsiadly finished injured. I like Essendon's Carlisle but I think he is a couple of years off making a notable impact. The quality of Fisher plus predicted improved outputs from the Port duo sees me go with Kristof for this one.

McIntosh (Gorringe) vs Warnock (Martin)
Hamish McIntosh is the great unknown. While he's been out injured Goldstein has come in and made the No.1 ruck spot his own. What does McIntosh's 2012 look like? Second ruck with some stints up forward?Warnock on the other hand has gone past Hampson, waved goodbye to Jacobs and we've seen Kruezer park himself predominantly up forward since his knee. Warnock's now Carlton's No. 1 man. Gorringe is going to be quality, that is obvious. But when will he start impacting games? I think 2012 is too early for him. Martin proved a handy second banana for Melbourne in 2011. I'm leaning towards CATB here.

Ibbotson/Osborne/Gorringe(Wallis) vs Martin/Gysberts/McGinnity(Salopek)
No decisive advantage here. Both have small/tall cover and some flexibility.

Well, that makes it 3-all. Fairly appropriate for a grand final.

Ultimately I am going to have to go with Kristof. An even midfield battle but I think Kristof's goalkickers (talls and smalls) are more dependable. Question marks over Brown's durability and Podsiadly's recovery means that Betts/Harvey are left to do too much.

Kristof by 10 points.

Hmm...
I rated CATB top in my original rankings and Kristof 7th and I've voted for CATB every time and against Kristof every time, so this should be straight forward for me.
But it's not.
Match-ups favour Kristof pretty well. Enough to bridge the gap... Maybe?

When i did my rankings i had CATB just ahead of Kristof but both werent good enough for my top 4.
I have also gone against Kristof in every finals game he has been in.

Looking at the match ups KRISTOF has too much firepower, while CATB has too much dependency on Brown and The Pod (who is still injured).

Cant believe im going this way but Kristof by 7 goals :thumbsu:

BTW i'll send Nobes an email of the teams see what he says.

Yeah, let's call it Tuesday morning - unless we want to do the Noble/Rendell thing?

I voted Kristof. Both teams are very closely matched, but Kristof's half forward line wins it for him. Not only would they beat CATB's half back line, they are superior to CATB's own half forward line. O'Keefe and Sylvia as the half forward flankers are the main difference - such a classy HF line. I'm not sure if this is the manner in which I should be voting, but the teams are both very good and this is the only way I could split them.

Had kristof number one ranked from the initial ratings and picked him in every final to date. Doesn't Change here.

Rok just too hard a matchup for catb to stop. The other members of line Aldo loom threateningly.

Only really Eddie betts who looks a clear winner for catb, he's yet to take a final by the neck.

Just received a reply from Harper. here it is.

"I personally like the lighter print team I think they are better .But what would I know .

There are a lot of players in there who I rate highly ,Glass ,Harbrow,Swallow,Selwood,McKenzie,Brown,Betts,Black & Kerr ".

So CATB a vote for you on behalf of harper:)

Also received another email from Nobes:

"I have been on holidays and just back at work today.

Answer - Bold team wins for 3 reasons.
1. I think they will win more positions in one on one battles.
2. Better ball winning ability in midfield, especially stoppages, so more / better fwd entries.
3. Capacity to kick more goals and better defence.

Hope that helps"...

So Nobes picks Kristof.

Not even so called experts can split these 2 teams :D

Call it a draw a reckon :p

Toss of a coin really. Think alot of this will come down to who has more quality entry. Went with CATB due to the better smaller forwards. Will crumb more effectively in my eyes and kick just slightly more score.

Have to say Im really impressed with the blokes from the AFC! What a great response from all parties. I know it wouldn't take a lot of their time, but I imagine they get a squillion emails a day. Great work also to Faith for thinking of doing that. Certainly makes me just that little bit more proud of our great club. :thumbsu::D:thumbsu:

So we have 8-8 and 1-1 from the experts.
Call it a draw?

How come there is only a total of 16 votes?
There are 18 participants which means not everyone voted.
Also should have been more non-participants voting.....
This thread should have been on the main adelaide board.

Has anyone received a reply email from matty rendell yet?

Now seems as good as a time as any..
